Have uses this before with no problems. This years batch with added John Innes has adversely affected many of my pot plants particulary fuchsias with yellowing and distorted leaves (the ones not potted with westland are fine. Suspect the problems lies with selected weed killers in law clippings. I will not be using this product again.

Past few years have used Westland Gro sure all purpose compost with no issues. Have recently purchased 3 bags of 50 litres peat free multi purpose with added John Innes. The compost is very coarse, it's smells extremly strongly of Ammonia/ rotting manure. Transplanted chilli seedlings which have effectively curled up and died, also used for French and Runner beans which resulted in only approx 20% germination. Have now emptied bags on a spare area of garden and will spread in borders in winter.
Very disappointed with product.

Came with roots already growing in it. Nothing else I've planted in it is growing at all.

I used this compost to pot up tomatoes a month ago, in the greenhouse and outside. I have grown tomatoes here for over ten years, getting very good crops. I have never had such poor and inconsistent growth. Plants have yellowish leaves, look straggly, and are much smaller than they should be by now. Although roots are coming out of the drain holes, there is surprisingly little root development within the bulk of the compost, as if they are trying to find a healthier place to grow. I have resorted to removing as much of the compost as possible, made easier by the poor root growth, and replacing it with compost from my compost bins. Clearly there is a problem this year as others have commented. Westland please review your quality control and make sure you are doing test planting with different batches.

I bought the Tree and Shrub to plant a young hawthorne tree. I know from experience that it is essential for trees to be stable in the ground. Movement loosens the roots so the tree cannot establish. Tree and Shrub is a light mix of recycled type stuff which is totally unsuitable for the job. Despite staking it I had to dig it up and just buy a bit of good old top soil to do the job.
Was glad to see the Trustpilot reviews to confirm my experience with their products - even with John Innis it is very poor.

i bought Resolva Lawn Weedkiller to do what it said - kill the weeds in my lawn. After 2 applications the weeds showed no effect at all and were still growing. I contacted Westland to complain and received a very blunt response saying if the temperature isn't right the weediller wil not work, and that several applications 6 weeks apart may be necessary for it to work. This not what you expect.

Westland peat free compost with John Innes - terrible stuff. Too many large bits of wood and twigs, seeds germinate poorly and seedlings can't establish. Young transplants, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, aubergines etc., aren't thriving, whilst more mature plants are struggling. The compost quickly dries to a crust on top but boggy underneath. It's only good for mulching.

I purchased the Gro-Sure Smart Seed Fast Start lawn seed from Westland (via Wickes) after being drawn in by claims that it was “guaranteed to grow,” “fast-starting,” and suitable for both sun and shade, particularly during the recommended sowing months of April, May, and September.
I sowed the seed in mid-April, followed all instructions carefully, used fresh topsoil purchased at the same time, lightly raked in the seed, and watered daily. The area received consistent sunshine and warm weather for over four weeks—conditions that were ideal for germination.
Despite this, very little grass grew, and the results were nowhere near what would be expected after more than a month. I contacted Westland directly with photos and receipts, expecting that the “guarantee” would be honoured.
Instead, I received a series of dismissive responses. At first, they blamed air temperature. Then they said it lacked sunlight, even though I offered to provide CCTV footage showing full sun on the area. Finally, they claimed that using topsoil was the issue, despite that being a common and reasonable practice when sowing grass seed. At no point during the purchase or on the packaging was this mentioned as a problem.
Throughout the process, my concerns were not treated seriously. My complaint wasn’t acknowledged as formal, and I was not offered a replacement, refund, or any form of resolution. This experience has left me extremely disappointed—not only with the product’s performance but with the way Westland handled the situation.
If you’re considering this product, be aware that the guarantee may not be honoured and that customer service may not provide meaningful support if something goes wrong.

I have bought this three times over the past four years, yesterday it was by mistake, as I now remember wanted 'Weedol'- which does work well!
Weedkiller's from this company are really crap!
This really is a big con, seems you are paying £6.50 a-pop for a plastic bottle of water?
Sprayed (Pro Weedkiller - Kills weeds fast - visible signs in 3 Hours) on the weeds today and nothing, waited 24 hours!
In fact, the weeds seem to be thriving on it in this dry spell!
I remember in spring last year going to the garden centre and the shelves were packed floor to ceiling with Westland's 'RESOLVA' and no 'Weedol, I had to walk out as I remembered I had used this rubbish product before.
Eventually at Sainsbury's I found some 'Weedol in a almost identical blue and white bottle, I purchased this and It worked beautifully killing the weeds on my driveway within 3 hours!
This year I made a special trip to Sainsbury's just to get weedkiller - I made the mistake of buying 'RESOLVA' as I could not remember the name from last spring.... there was no 'Weedol' the shelves were stacked from top-to-bottom with 'RESOLVA' only!
The company Westland is really a scam and sells rubbish-low quality products - do not buy, it is like throwing your money down the drain!
What really confuses me is why no one else is complaining, I cannot be the only angry customer?
These products really should not have major/exclusive shelf space in all the large Supermarkets and Garden Centres, the products really are useless and a scam!
I will taking this back to Sainsbury's for a refund!
Bought 8 bags of top soil. Layed them out on the lawn then split the bags open with a Stanley knife. For a moment I thought I had bought 8 bags of barks. This stuff is horrendous
Cheaper wicks option is far better.
I won't be buying this product again and I definitely don't recommend it

This is the worst potting compost on the market don’t waste your money buying it full of rubbish large twigs and all manor of stuff not even close to looking like it should. Spent a fortune on seeds and the results are dreadful. I’m a serious gardener and enjoy raising my own plants, I will never buy this product or any of Westlands products again. If fact I don’t rate any of it, period.

I use a lot of compost and have recently bought Westland JP3 from my local garden centre. It is full of twigs, leaves and all sorts of rubbish. It dries out with a hard crust and away from the pot sides. My plants are clearly not happy. I need to find a soil based compost which was easy until recently. This product is not good enough.

I bought West Field Safe Lawn from B and Q one month ago, it did absolutely nothing, total rubbish.

Good afternoon. I purchased from B&Q one of your Resolva xtra 5lt power pump weedkiller £34.00 and one Resolva xtra 3lt weedkiller £16.00, a total cost of £50.00. The product has touched the weeds, there is literally no difference whatsoever! We used all 8lts and nothing, barely wilted. I wished we had looks at the reviews online as I now see other people have also complained for the same reason. I'm am now down £50.00 and still have the weedkiller problem? I've used your products before and had good results. What's gone wrong? Please advise how you will rectify this issue as the product simply isn't fit for purpose. Can I get a refund from B & Q? Regards Danielle. Update: 7th May. Still no difference waste of money! Don't buy!!

Purchased as Deters Birds other seeds we tried didnt but gave a little green so thought buy the best..wrong.. over a week later and nothing however the pigeons love them so if you need expensive bird seed go ahead and buy this. Complained to Westland was waste of time as they pointed out 'Deters Birds" so no guarantee however I can safely say Pigeons find it delicious.

I've bought three bags of Westland peat free compost with John Innes. Getting a tons of quite large pebbles in them, which I've never had from any other manufacturer of compost. Plus large chunks of stick in it, some if them with paint on. Then, to add insult to injury, my indoor trays of various, seeds, and seedlings are now being over run with hundreds of fungi. Never had this issue before, in decades of gardening
Won't be buying any Westland products ever again and advise others to avoid them too!

Review for Jack's Magic compost.
For many years I have bought this compost.
What has happened this year? 😭 It is horrible! Must be a new mix, but I hate it.
The top of pots dry out and form a hard crust and all my plants and seeds are nowhere near as good as before with the old formulation. It has a very woody texture ..no good for smaller seeds which struggle. If you are going to change the mix then don't call it by the same name ( unless it's 'Jack's lost it's magic..)
I won't be buying it anymore....apart from if it's half price and I can use as mulch.Really disappointed.
***Regarding the reply response below..my review says it all... You have not confirmed that the mix has been changed..which it has !
