I ordered a 3 seater and a 1 seater sofa.

When I received them I was about to go in for a major operation, which had me staying in hospital for an extended time and staying with family to recover. A year after that I needed another operation and had to stay with family again. So for months at a time I wasn't at home.

Within a year and a half the 1 seater sofa had drastically sunken in.

I phoned them to be told that those sofas only have a 1 year warranty. They sent someone from emmiera group which I had never heard of and he sat in it, said there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the springs.

A couple of days later grampian furnishers called me to say the sofa has natural settlement and there's nothing they can do.

So, their sofas only last 1 and a half years of light use before they are flat.

I do have the extended warranty they offered but that doesn't cover cover settlement.

So yeah the stuff they sell is low quality and won't even last 2 years.

Avoid this company at all costs.

They have lied in their reply.

"During our conversation, we were unfortunately unable to continue the discussion and as a result, our Customer Service team did not have the opportunity to explore some alternative options to resolve the matter."

This is incorrect, I was told on the phone "we're sorry there nothing more we can do"

They specifically told me they can't do anything more and that was the end of it.

So they are lying on this site.

I'm after a new sofa and chair and decided to try Gillies, because my last experience with a national chain store was disappointing (the staff were unhelpful and the sofa hasn't lasted well).

From entering the Inverness store, I was delighted to be acknowledged by staff, but left alone to browse. We were obviously being monitored though, because as soon as we looked at pricing, Bobi reappeared to explain what we needed to know, from where leaflets could be found to take home, to which items were on display. She then returned to her desk, but was there when we needed her.

I think when you're making this type of purchase, you really need time to assess sofas and chairs in peace, but it's nice to get help when you want it. Bobi was lovely and friendly, but professional too. She listened to what we wanted and gave good, honest advice, and we left the store with fabric samples and the promise we'd return, which we did a week later.

In the meantime, I emailed with questions and nothing was too much bother. This type of good old-fashioned customer service is solely lacking in other retailers.

The order is now placed and we're waiting for delivery, but if it goes as smoothly as the purchasing, then Gillies will be my store of choice for future purchases.

The 2 men who delivered my mattress were great. They came well within the time slot given. They took away the old one and re-fixed my headboard, which I would have found difficult to do myself.. A first class service.

A little late with this review, which I intended to make at the time but forgot. This was a very long distance purchase, way outside the normal delivery area, 350 miles from the store. It was for a one-off item and I arranged a carrier, to avoid a very long journey. The staff could not have been more helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. Payment was simple, and the arrangements for the pick-up by the carrier were absolutely first class. The packing was excellent, and couldn't have been better.

This was an exceptionally well handled transaction by all the staff involved - very many belated thanks. A pleasure to deal with this company.
