is one star the lowest?
update as of 17:30 today.
Aforementioned 'doctor?' rang, belittled my disabilities and started having a go. This guy should be in a circus, oh wait, guys and St.thomas's is one.
I wonder what their mortality rate is? According to CQC, safety leaves a lot to be desired, why does that not surprise me.
As dr.austin doesn't have a clue about people, maybe there is a training course gstt can send him on!

Great, caring staff. Thank you so much!!!

I had been suffering from some serious dental pain for 3 days consistently with no relief. It was to the point where I would’ve preferred being unconscious, painful to live, talk, swallow, everything.

The nurses at the hospital were so pleasant, kind, understanding and brilliant with their service that any worries, or preconceived notions I had went out the window. Fantastic people and thanks to their help, I will now be able to sleep more than 2 hours without am infection waking me up.
Seriously couldn’t be more grateful

Usless doctor

I went to see a doctor for pain management in January 2025. I was hoping to gain a procedure which my former doctor told me about that only Guys does. The doctor then told me I didn't the condition (Arthritis of the spine) which I was told I had by a previous doctor. He did not give me any convenience as to what he was talking about. He then sent me for a scan. I had to wait until March for the MRI scan to be done. I then phone up to make an appointment to see the doctor about the results of the scan. I had to wait two months for the report of the scan. Fortunely I don't live anywhere near St Thomas and went local for treatment. I am now having a procedure in June to get rid of pain. I understand waiting lists and its not a life threating condition yet there is no communication from Guys and they seem they don't care. Oh I do have arthritis of the spine. Useless doctor.

Diversity in black and white

Do not bother applying for an admin role – your application will likely be rejected. This Trust, like many others, appears to prioritise hiring candidates who are currently within the NHS. Unfortunately, the degree and previous NHS experience seem to carry little weight.
There is a noticeable trend of promoting individuals without qualifications into senior roles, while overlooking others who may be more qualified. CVs and cover letters often seem to go unread.
The understanding of diversity among the senior staff appears to be mainly - black and white. It’s hard not to wonder if this is part of a wider push encouraging people towards private healthcare.

A fantastic experience in Cardiac Day Care

My 98 year old Mum has been to the Cardiac Day Care Unit today to have her pacemaker changed.
From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome and they put my Mum at ease.
A highly efficient, well run unit that I cannot fault in any way.
The team on duty Lauren, Abby and Stephen were fantastic and kept us informed every step of the way.
They took the worry out of an experience we were dreading.

I a retired nurse and I know when a ward is badly run.

I a retired nurse and I know when a ward is badly run. Today I found the opposite ! I visited at 14:00 on the 14th of May. My mum is on the George Perkins ward and the care my mum is having is fantastic ! We were met with different disciplines who are so helpful. I was not just looking at how mum was treated but how others on their own are treated which is always a good indication as to how a ward is run. We met a doctor from the medical team who addressed all our concerns and of course we had that difficult discussion ! The only reason I did not give a five star is that at the reception I wanted to know where my mum was, but because I could not remember what year my mum was born she would not give me any information as to where she was !Eventually I was able to ring someone and didn't need her help. I think there should be a way around this. If I could not have had this information I would not have been able to visit my mum. Maybe she could have rang the ward and got my mum to verifiy. Not good customer service. Fortunately everything went uphill from then on.

I recently visited the emergency…

I recently visited the emergency department and was disappointed with the overall experience. Despite the severity of my condition, I had to wait for an excessive amount of time before being seen by a healthcare professional. The ED nurse staff (James Dove) seemed unorganized and communication was poor. I didn’t receive clear updates about my wait time or what was happening with my treatment. While I understand that emergency departments can be busy, the lack of empathy and efficiency was concerning. I hope improvements are made to enhance patient care and reduce wait times.

Apoitments always late...---- WASTE OF TIME ----

Official reply for Hospital...
I am writing further to your complaint received on 12 January 2025. I was sorry to
read of your concerns regarding your experience of the Ophthalmology Service at
Department at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Trust (GSTT).
This matter has been investigated on my behalf by Ms N D, Assistant
General Manager for Ophthalmology.
You had an appointment with the Ophthalmology Cornea Eye Clinic on 9 January
2025 at 2:00pm. Your appointment letter stated that you should attend 15 minutes in
advance of your appointment, in order to check in. You attended at 1:30 pm and
checked in at reception. At 3:10pm, you had not yet been seen; you then asked at
reception how much longer you would have to wait and were informed that there
were still patients who had not been seen who were ahead of you. Ms D.
apologises that you were not informed in advance of this that the clinic was running
behind time; she has reminded the reception staff of the need to do so in order to
manage patient experience and expectation.
Ms D explains that, unfortunately, appointments can frequently overrun
resulting in delays to patients who have not yet been seen. She apologises for the
frustration this causes and explains that clinic timings are regularly reviewed to try to
ensure that there is an appropriate balance of the number of patients seen and the
time spent per patient.
Ms D apologises for the impact that this has had on you.

DISGUSTING CLEANER

I’m unable to give less than 1 star. I am shocked and sickened that I witnessed a cleaner. Won’t say what nationality. As it’s what I saw that was just appalling. I saw a cleaner mop the whole corridors and toilets without cleaning the mop in the bucket. While she is chatting away on her AirPods. Then as my mate finishes his appointment, I stand at the reception while he books another appointment, and this cleaner USED THE SAME DIRTY MOP THAT SHES JUST SCRUBBED THE CORRIDORS AND THE DIRTY TOILETS WITH AND STARTED TO CLEAN THE TABLES IN THE WAITING AREA WOTH THE SAME MOP. I mean WTAF. It’s people like this who are there just for the wage and haves zero intention's to follow cleaning standards. And it’s people like this who spread Covid. This happened a few weeks ago. I reported it to the other reception but I’m sure nothing was said

The worst place to work for

The worst place to work for. Despite all the policies they have published online, discriminating pregnant women over equal opportunities and mothers with very young children over flexible work. Applying psychological and emotional abuse and various forms of harassment towards them and creating hostile environment. They openly devalue women by stating that these women become a burden so they apply abuse to get rid of them. My personal experience became a worst nightmare. Wouldn't recommend at any costs unless you want to damage your mental health in a very short period of time.

Leave me sick and in pain for how long… the company couldn't care less with what's gong on.

Leave me sick and in pain for how long just to give some half hearted issue. I'm tired of all the lies and half hearted in stress clearly not,. Just do the operation so I hopefully live my life. Thanks for repeating the same test since 2016 and yet no one can/willingn to help, I see you teach your staff about no respect respect. Why ask for help I can't receive. Can't ask again clearly not important for that

GSTT vascular. Fantastic.

My partner and I asked to go to St Thomas' vascular dept for a second opinion after we felt King's College must have it wrong, and they had. From our first visit with Dr Zayed we felt confident he had the patients best interest at heart, things happened very quickly and resulted in an operation. My partners care was second to none, from admissions to discharge. Thank you Dr Zayed for listening in the first place.

Rudest doctor I have encountered

I had strong abdominal cramps the whole day and during the night I couldn’t take anymore and we went to A&E at st Thomas hospital. It was 2.40 am. At the registration the reception told us that the wait would have been of a maximum of 4 hours. We went to sit and waited to be called. During this time No one from the staff came to ask us or other people how we were doing, if we needed anything. They were spent time at the desk chatting and laughing. A couple of time we approached the desk to ask for how long before see a doctor. Politely I was first told after 7 patients. 7 patients were called, but my name was never called. At around 7.30 we asked again and we were told I was the next. 8am arrived and there was a change of shifts, this is when the rude staff took position. As it was almost 8.30, i was tired, still in pain, we asked what was going on. The reception very rudely replied that she couldn’t do anything, note that she never asked if was ok, she only say they could give me pain killer, no sign of empathy in her voice.I think that noticing our frustration a doctor came straight away. She was a female Asian doctor. I never met a doctor so rude in my life, I was given my answers to her questions and when I asked to check why I had a strong pain in my belly she told me I had to yo yo my GP. She did touch my belly, but didn’t provide me with any possible reason and sent me away instead. I have never complained about the NHS staff, but what me and other patients experienced today was unbelievable. Staff rude, unprofessional, that didn’t care of assisting the patients, treated with no respect.

Miscarried a pregnancy, made to queue and sent back home

I was miscarrying a pregnancy when I went to the A&E unit of St Thomas' hospital Monday evening. I was in physical pain, bleeding and experiencing severe emotional distress. I made the call to skip the queue of 20 people (apologies to anyone whom this offends), I checked with every 3rd or 4th person whether that be OK, but unfortunately did not check with everyone. One lady called me out, started shouting over me, called me white pregnant privilege and sent me back (I accepted this and tried to apologise, she just kept shouting). A nurse came out - I explained symptoms/situation, she told me to queue. 2hrs later I made it to the front where a second nurse explained there is a 5hr wait from here and they won't be able to do much about a miscarriage so my best bet was to go home and come back to the maternity unit the following morning. After a day of tests the next day it was confirmed I miscarried. I just wish there was some kind of sense-checking of priority order / lack of need to stay whilst queuing and that the first nurse sent me home when I first explained what was happening.

Racist Gastro Called Dr Michelle McCarthy

Had to wait months for a gastroenterology appointment as my GP suspects that I have IBD or Lupus, only to have Dr Michelle McCarthy dismiss my symptoms as just as IBS and make a racist diagnosis sickle cell as the cause of my iron deficiency because I'm Black. I've never had sickle cell and no one in my family does. When I told her all the IBS medications that I had taken which didn't work, she gaslit me by saying that none of these medications were for IBS when they clearly were. Maybe they didn't teach that in her medical racism 101 but every person with sense can Google and see that loperamide, Buscopan, Immodium and mebeverine are for IBS. I left the appoitment in tears and made a complaint to PALS and they haven't updated me. Luckily the appointments booking manager, Elizabeth, her staff and other nurses were of colour and sympathetic towards me and helped with the complaint. I still have no update despite Elizabeth forwarding it o McCarthy's manager several times. Shocking service and I have demanded to see a different doctor as I will not let this racist continue to abuse me
