Mitie needs to advocate more compassion where their staff work in emotionally charged environments

It is with great distress that I feel compelled to reiterate my criticism of a hospital whose staff are overwhelmingly exemplary. On Sunday, I visited the UCLH canteen to retrieve a piece of cutlery and was confronted by a Mitie employee who seemed intent on escalating into a full confrontation over my simply taking cutlery onto the ward. Having just learned of my cousin's passing, I was prepared to respond to his apparent disregard for the emotionally charged environment he is working in. Despite the hospital's posters encouraging kindness towards staff, this individual seemed to believe his ego should take precedence and that his actions could override others' emotional suffering, even if it worsened the situation. He might argue, "How do I know that? The environment he works in should dictate that Mitie staff receive sensitivity training? At a minimum, stoic expressions have no place." Sadly, in today's world, basic acts of humanity are often neglected by those who show no regard for the emotional impact on others.

Outstanding Care at UCLH Endometriosis Centre

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the team at the UCLH Endometriosis Centre, particularly Dr Sophie Strong and Dr Maria Fahmy, for the exceptional care I received during my recent appointment.

Having previously been treated at two other NHS trusts, I can confidently say that the level of care, attention and professionalism I experienced at UCLH was far superior. For the first time in a long time, I felt like a person rather than just another patient. I felt genuinely seen, heard and valued throughout my appointment.

Dr Sophie Strong was incredibly thorough and compassionate. She took the time to carefully explain scans and reports from a previous hospital, ensuring I fully understood what was happening and the possible outcomes. She answered all of my questions with patience, kindness and expertise, never making me feel rushed.

Dr Maria Fahmy was equally outstanding. She was professional, caring and highly skilled. She took blood from me with ease despite previous difficulties I have experienced with blood tests, making the process completely stress-free.

Both Dr Strong and Dr Fahmy are a credit to the NHS and deserve recognition for the incredible work they do. Their combination of clinical excellence, compassion and genuine care for patients should be an example to others, particularly when dealing with complex and sensitive conditions such as endometriosis. They represent exactly how patients should be treated and would make excellent role models and mentors for future doctors.

Worst NHS Complaint Handling

I had an extremely disappointing experience with University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, particularly within the Neurology services at National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery ie secretary, PALS, Complaints, Assistant General Manager, Deputy Chief Executive and SERVICE MANAGER QUEEN SQUARE DIVISION- re Queen Square
Over a prolonged period, there were repeated failures in communication across several departments, including unanswered emails, unreturned calls, and poor complaints handling. Despite escalating concerns through PALS, management, and senior executives, many issues remained unresolved for over a year and complaint responses failed to address key points raised.
The experience demonstrated serious administrative and communication failings which caused unnecessary stress and frustration. Patients should not have to repeatedly chase responses or escalate matters simply to receive basic communication and accountability.
Overall, a very poor experience regarding administration, responsiveness, and complaint handling re all of the above.
For fairness, NMCC staff were professional, responsive, and helpful throughout, showing that good patient communication is achievable within the Trust. This can also be said for the excellent service received from OT/Physio. Very generous rating.

Fake promises

Fake promises
My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. The family were informed that it was at an early stage, and when treated with surgery, she would go into remission.

I, her husband, was rather sceptical of the claim as I had read that no assurance was fullproof. The surgeon repeatedly assured me that she was going to be fine. I gave in!

She underwent some surgeries and chemotherapy thereafter. Then 10 years later, she was asked to come back to the hospital for some routine tests. It was then diagnosed that the cancer cells had entered the lymph nodes.

The original Surgeon had passed away by then, sadly. Further test were done. A new replacement doctor once again promised me that she would go into remission once his team had carried out the planned solution.

That promise was baseless. My wife went back to further surgeries and chemotherapy over the next ten years. Nothing worked to return her to health. She passed away in early 2026.

Warning: I believe it that there is no cure for cancer. And, I further believe that there will never be one, dedpite the tons of money being poured into research black holes.

From my traumatic experience of living with my most beloved wife for years with pain, do not believe in cure. Cure is fake.

Believe in prevention by taking care of your body and health, by avoiding the consumption of meat diet, alcohol and smoking.

UCLH neurosurgery praise

I am so moved and grateful for the outstanding care I have received from the neurosurgery staff and especially the MSK consultant I saw yesterday Dr. Matteo Bernardotto. As a whole they have beyond no exaggeration saved my Christmas. The clinic was running an hour late due to a fire alarm being set off by of all things burnt toast. Despite this Matteo went above and beyond to listen and did an injection. in addition to what I had performed 10 days ago that FINALLY has left me pain free after years of excruciating pain. Though surgery is probably inevitable to solve my disc issues indefinitely ; I cannot express my gratitude enough for the gift of a pain free Christmas . This hospital is a national treasure and I feel so blessed to receive such world class care by the NHS. Huge thanks to all the staff working tirelessly there for doing such extraordinary work despite all the challenges. The lovely receptionist even loaned me his portable phone charger which was so gracious. If you are ever blessed enough to be referred to UCL thank your lucky stats as they truly care and the support and care I’ve received far surpasses expectations of what I expected from an overburdened underfunded NHS that for most is an absolute lifeline where private care is financially beyond reach. It’s not until we are faced with a serious health issue that one can appreciate treatment that is thoughtful empathetic and effective. God save the NHS. 🙏🏻

Nobody. Cares

After waiting over 1 year for an appointment, I finally get an appointment for today and when I arrive they tell me it's been cancelled, no-one informed me of any cancellation and it's not acceptable, I travelled far to get there and I wasn't happy at all.

UCLH – Autonomic Unit – My Deeply Disturbing Experience Over 30+ Years

My long-term experience with the UCLH Autonomic Unit has been deeply distressing, and I feel obligated to warn other patients especially those with severe autonomic disorders.

I have lived with a rare, degenerative autonomic neurological disease since 1986. I suffered cardiac arrest during a tilt-table test, have severe noradrenaline deficiency, and rely on medications like Droxidopa, which UCLH has in stock but has repeatedly refused to prescribe, despite it being the only effective treatment for my condition. Instead, I have had to import my own medication for decades.

Under Prof. Christopher Mathias, my diagnosis was mishandled. When errors became apparent, the response I experienced was not transparency but avoidance and obstruction. After this, I found myself unable to access other specialists, repeatedly redirected to doctors I did not choose, including Dr Iodice, and prevented from seeing anyone outside the same group. Referrals were blocked, rerouted, or rejected without explanation. Over time, this created the clear impression of a coordinated effort to control my case, leaving me with no freedom to seek appropriate care.

The issues with my medical records have been even more alarming. Essential test results have been missing, altered, or unreadable. Recent MRI images were provided as cropped, low-quality screenshots rather than proper films or full scans. Some documents I know existed have disappeared entirely. In two cases, I received images marked “Taken From Disk,” raising serious concerns about how my files were handled and why the original scans were withheld. This pattern has continued for years.

Because of these repeated actions denied treatment, blocked referrals, missing files, altered documents, and lack of transparency I have come to believe there is a pattern of obstruction centred around the past involvement of Prof. Mathias and those connected to him. From my side as a patient, it feels like a long-standing conspiracy to prevent any external specialist from reviewing the mistakes that were made.

Even when I escalated these issues, including serious data concerns and failures in care, the Ombudsman did not address the misconduct I raised. This left me without answers, without treatment, and without accountability.

My condition has worsened needlessly because access to essential treatment and honest medical documentation has been repeatedly delayed or denied. What I have experienced at UCLH has caused profound harm, both medically and psychologically.

Staff don't know how to relate to autistic patients. I've been reduced to tears by one member of staff who shouted over me and wouldn't listen to me at all. I've been patronised by other staff and when I asked for support from pals and complaints I've just been ignored completely. I've now complained to NHS England.

University College London Hospitals National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Lost referrals (referral lost in February finally got an appointment in September for next year - i.e. March 2026.), long waits (well over a year) and when one does get an appointment they try and fob-off with a telephone appointment in spite of previous triage. Disgraceful, disorganised and unsatisfactory. Avoid.

Such wonderful staff

Visited today with my Mum and every staff member I came accross was absolutely lovely. Very caring and really warm and friendly. Totally different to my local hospital that make you feel like they don't have time for you.

The signage was very clear and concise so it was easy to find our way and if I looked unsure staff were actually asking me if I was OK and knew where I was going.

Everywhere looks clean too which for an OCD person to say, is a big compliment.

Special thanks to 1st floor surgery reception team, surgery and recovery teams. They carried out their jobs with such care above and beyond what we have been used to and put back some faith in the NHS.

All the staff made me feel so much more at ease and confident they would take good care of my Mum

Amazing service Thank you. Keep up the good work.
