HEXMAT - phono record isolator Avis 12

After reading and watching a few reviews on the internet, I decided to take the plunge. The mantra of minimised contact and dampening made sense to me. It also looks cool. Very striking design, and unlike anything else on the market.

The sonic benefits were apparent with the first record I put on the platter. The noise floor was greatly reduced. Everything sounded tighter, the soundstage was wider the turntable disappeared and I was just playing the record, not the motor, plinth, platter etc. My moving coil cartridge was left to do its job without any interference.

HEXMAT have thought outside the box with the Yellow Bird. It’s pure magic.

I believe it to be a great upgrade for any table using a mat. Sonic improvements are noticeable. It has the dimple idea found in other mats, Mapleshade does this also. If one enjoys trying tweaks to their equipment and can get past the price tag of $150, it will add to your record listening enjoyment.

Good product, however it is pricey.

Great if you’re serious about your music. It’s quite expensive for what it is, but in my opinion, it’s money well-spent.

The best Mat on the market so far.

Never been one to bother too much with aftermarket turntable mats, but read a review of the Hexmat 'Yellow Bird' by Audiophileman Paul Rigby that more than pricked my interest. One of the reasons for it doing so is that my turntable is a very high mass non suspended type, when playing a record even the slightest tap on my equipment rack it generates through my system. So you can see my thought process if this mat helps to isolate the record from extraneous vibrations then its worth considering.

The icing on the cake is that it comes with a 30day money back guarantee, so it was a no brainer.

On enquiring through the Hexmat website, I was contacted promptly by Gyorgy, who advised me how to proceed with the order etc and kept me up to date with order progress, excellent customer service I thought.

It arrived and after playing a few bits and bobs, before installing the Hexmat 'Yellow Bird'. I sat an listened and all I can say I would concur with everything Paul Rigby put in his review. As for my issue when I tap my equipment rack, whilst not completely resolving the problem it has significantly reduced it, winner chicken dinner.

I am not saying that this mat would work for everyone and by no means is it cheap at £115 including p&p, but it certainly works for me.

Footnote, if considering giving this mat a punt, but you are sceptical because you clamp or put a weight on your records, you just don't need to.

Okay, some might think this is expensive, just a thin sheet of plastic material, instead of a proper mat. Might even think I am trying to be persuaded after having bought “premium” snAke oil. Okay as they say opinions are like navel ( well it was not navel, but that is more polite to say) everybody has one... All I know I tried it on both my turntables ( Technics SL1500c and AudioTechnica LP7) with several pick ups ( Ortofon 2m Red, Blue, Nagaoka Mp110, AudioTechnica VM95ML and VM750SHand even a glorious Goldring1042). Believe it or not this awesome mat made SING each and every of them nicer, I mean like their character were upgraded of more than a notch. More soundstage, improved transients, augmented clarity and I repeat for ALL of them a palpable sense of more finesse. So apparently, I would kindly suggest before even thinking of upgrading your phono stage with a better ( and way pricier) new amp, try this instead. You might be flabbergasted. True.

Buen instrumento para reducir vibraciones

Just received my Hexmat all the way from Hungary. Great communication with Gyorgy who answered my questions before ordering. The mat looks great and seems to do exactly what it promises to do. Very happy.
