Kam Balaggan Consultant Cataract and Vitreoretinal Surgeon Avis 

I recently had both my lens replaced and my astigmatism corrected in my left eye, the service that Kam Balaggan provided was extremely professional yet friendly to put me at ease. The procedure I had has worked better than I could of hoped for. I would without any doubt recommend him.

I have recently been under the care of Mr Balaggan and received excellent treatment, care and advice from this highly skilled professional. The outcome was the correction of the loss of clarity, light transmission and colour rendering that my cataracts were causing, hugely enhancing my quality of life.

Mr Balaggan was always calm and his obvious vast knowledge and years of experience made me feel very safe and secure from the first consultation through my cataract operations to discharge. Mr Balaggan did two macular hole surgeries in 2016 & 2017 with excellent results but advised unfortunately would develop cataracts in the future.
I have just had both my cataracts in both eyes done with Mr Balaggan who advised a special lens due to previous surgery would be beneficial. He advised the best lens , advised all for and againsts, done tests and scans and kept me informed along the way .
He is an excellent surgeon, Professional, has the most calming bed side manner and Instills you full of confidence.
The results have far exceeded my expectations and has given me better eyesights than I have had since my teens. I have wore contact lenses and glasses for thirty years but now no longer need any assistance with my vision .

I have had a follow-up appointment with Mr Balaggan following Vitrectomy surgery and the results far exceed my expectations. Mr Bajaggan is an excellent surgeon with a wonderful manner, I would not hesitate to recommend him.

With my eyesight deteriorating, my optician diagnosed cataracts and a previously damaged retina in one eye. My prescription had deteriorated to -21.
I was referred to Mr Balaggan as my optician spoke extremely highly of him.
From the initial consultation it was obvious that Mr Balaggan was a top professional and I knew I was in excellent hands. He explained everything clearly and answered all my queries and not once did I feel apprehensive.
He explained that due to issues with my eyes there were a number of challenges for him but he approached this without any worry.
Firstly he performed laser treatment on my retina to strengthen the weak areas which went perfectly.
Following detailed discussions Mr Balaggan recommended bespoke Toric lenses which would not only improve my overall eyesight greatly but help to correct an astigmatism.
The two cataract and lens replacement procedures were performed over the next 2 months with great patience and care.
I now have almost 20/20 eyesight and I feel amazing as I no longer need specs for the first time in over 50 years.
I cannot thank him enough and I will forever be grateful to him for his incredible skill.

I cannot praise Mr Balaggan enough. After cataract surgery on both eyes (one in May the other in July) I now have much improved vision, so much so that I no longer need glasses for my distance vision.

I was recommended to see Mr Balaggan by my optician after developing a cataract in my left eye. I have extremely high myopia (approx. -18 in the left eye) and, at 42, am (relatively!) young to have developed a cataract (but probably the myopia is the cause). Myopia and youth can both be complicating factors in cataract surgery, and there was also the added difficulty that after surgery my right and left eyes would be left with very different prescriptions. I was therefore very keen to see a surgeon with experience of complex cases. I cannot thank my optician enough for recommending Mr Balaggan. His reputation and credentials are, of course, impeccable, but before my consultation I was still pretty scared about the whole process, and so did extensive research of my own. Mr Balaggan listened carefully to my concerns and was able to answer all of my questions. He was patient and reassuring, and gave a very clear explanation of the options available to me, and direct advice on which of those he would recommend. There are limited premium lenses available for someone with my prescription, meaning that a multifocal lens was not an option, but Mr Balaggan was fully aware of the latest technology and was still able to suggest a premium lens that should work for me. I am very pleased to be able to say that Mr Balaggan delivered exactly what he said he would - with the toric EDOF (extended depth of focus) lens he suggested, I have precisely the visual outcome we were aiming for. Quite frankly, I have better vision in my left eye now than I have in my right, and that was something I didn’t expect, or dare to hope for. I cannot thank Mr Balaggan enough for both his frank advice and his surgical skill. When my right eye develops a cataract, as it inevitably will, I will have no hesitation in going back to see Mr Balaggan again, and I will be a lot less scared next time.

Having been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes I was recommended by my optician to see Mr Balaggan at the Wolverhampton Nuffield. During both consultations, diagnosis and surgery I received the very highest level of care and expertise from Mr Balaggan. His explanation of my condition and lens options was very clear and precise. The lenses he recommended are quite simply the very best you can get. The surgery on both eyes was seamless and completed successfully within a few weeks. I was informed that my deteriorating vision was due to a combination of floaters, Asteroid hyalosis and a detatched vitreous in one eye, together with cataract developments in both. Not good news!

As a serious photographer and wildlife enthusiast, with a more than a casual interest in microscopy, my deteriorating sight was frustrating to say the least.
Also, as a retired Dental Surgeon with close ties to medical and opthalmology disaplines, I needed to be seen by a surgeon with the right experience and the knowledge to cope with any complications.

However, quite unexpectedly, I was interrupted by a complete stranger whilst at a music venue. He had overheard me explaining my plight to a friend. Unprovoked, the man then turned to me and recommended Mr Balaggan for the superb eye care he had received with him at the Eye infirmary.

A consultation was duly booked and eventually cataract surgery completed on both eyes.
I, like the stranger, cannot fault the care I have received from Mr Balaggan. His attention to detail,the explanations of the complications, lens options, etc., and the precision surgery - all excellent.

I first met Kam Balaggan 2 years ago when my optician recommended him for laser treatment on my right eye.
Last month I was recommended again for cataract surgery on my right eye. Some years ago, having worn contact lenses for in excess of 40 years, my optician introduced me to the "miracle" of multi focal contact lenses. With cataracts getting worse Mr Balaggan has recently performed the "miracle" of removing the cataract affected lenses in both eyes, replacing them with enhanced lenses giving me 20/20 vision. We have received first class service from our optician for many years. However, at my wife's last sight test he confirmed that he had done all he could to improve her sight by way of spectacles. He suggested a consultation with Kam to explore a surgical option.
From the outset, Kam was very professional, but friendly; very clear in his diagnosis and explained the recommended procedure very well, in terms we could understand.
