Makerbot Rocks

Makerbot is an amazing company that makes amazing 3D Printers, they stand behind there product 100%, Customer Service is one of the best i have ever dealt with, and here's why. . . I bought a refurbished 5th gen from a third party and immediately was having issues, called Makerbot customer service and they hook me up with a 6 mo. warranty and sent a replacement, 3 months later i was experiencing a problem, sent me another replacement. . amazing they care where a lot of companies would not. I'm a Customer for Life

Wouldn’t recommend makerbot to anyone

After purchasing, having funds for the order deducted from the account (+$3,000, AND verifying the ID of the cardholder, MakerBot twiddled their thumbs shipping the order. They held the order for weeks. Only after multiple phone calls with support over those weeks did they finally ship it. The filament (10 spools) were just thrown in a box, with no packing material, and every single spool in the order, aside from the one provided with the printer, was damaged. In fact, the box was so poorly packed, it fell apart, spilling the entire contents (ten 1kg spools) on the ground.

Makerbot mini is a horrible machine…

Makerbot mini is a horrible machine extruder head continuously keeps crashing into the Build plate costing me time and money having to replace the build plate.

Support needs work

Tech support does not seem to fully understand their product. I can not an acceptable answer from them on what some of the settings in their Makerbot print software do. I have emailed them questions, and get a response, but not an informative answer. They also shipped the replicator Z18 we ordered at work to my home address, instead of the work address on the PO. Still waiting on a response from them on issues.

Purchasing problems.

Sent purchase order but they still sent it to the wrong address. Called and asked to change the address and all the wrong information. Send 3D printer to yet another wrong address. One mistake OK but to continue the mistake is a problem.

AS ALWAYS, IT IS EASY TO DO BUSINESS WITH MAKERBOT.
MY EXPERIENCE WAS COURTEOUS, PROFESSIONAL, AND TO THE POINT. I THINK FOR THE MOST PART, WHEN A COMPANY HAS A GOOD PRODUCT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS GOING TO BE GOOD.

A great leap forward in reliability

I have spent six years building reprap Prusas, fiddling with Lulzbots, etc and I was always frustrated by the number of variables that had to be covered in order to print consistently. My FTQ % (First Time Quality) was in the low 50's even for things I was good at printing. And if I was going to print a full plate? Forget it, the odds were very against me not having a filament jam or sputter or something.
The Z18 just prints. I load up a clean STL, set my settings the way I want, hit print and I am on my way. I know a lot of people complain about this printer but I have no idea why. I have printed out a full plate of 40% infill 5 shell parts that took 36 hours and it just nailed it. I have done that more than once, in fact.
The downside of having a $200+ extruder is not an issue for me, it gets amortized into my print costs, which are very low thanks to the reliability.
My only complaint really was that I ordered a 10 pack of the Makerbot PLA just to make sure I could come up to speed with mated material and I have had more problems with their PLA than I have had with all the weird PLAs that I get off of Amazon. Kinks, breaks, tangles, just not worth more than 2X the price of other material.
Overall I am thrilled with the print size and reliability. It has a built in "Test" feature where you can print a quick 12 min calibration object which is wonderful. Now I sacrifice 15 min when I load up a new reel and I know that it's ready to roll, no need to check in all the time. I have even run out of filament, re-loaded new filament and started back up again with no problems at all.

I had a part go out due to heavy use of the machine. They quickly and inexpensively sent me the replacement parts with great instructions on how to do the job.

They are always a pleasure to deal with.

Horrible customer service

Horrible customer service. We have an 8,000 dollar printer thats not functional. They do not support their printers and did not make any attempt to rectify the problem.
