Ruined a family dinner with their incompetence

I’m giving it one star only because I did actually, finally receive the product, but I will never purchase from Power City again after my experience this week.

On Sunday, I placed an order for a chest freezer, and at checkout I was given the option to select what day I wanted it delivered. I selected Tuesday as I was in a hurry to get it, and had it been much longer I would have just driven to collect it myself. I checked out and paid at this point. On Monday, I got an email confirming the order. Then I got a phone call, which is where things started to go wrong.

I answered the call only to be met with silence. When I attempted to call back, an automated message unhelpfully informed me that they have changed the way they respond to queries, apparently in order to better serve customers (I don’t buy it!) and to contact them online. I then had to submit an online form to request a call back, as I had seen they were trying to contact me.

They did call back in good time. To inform me that despite having the freedom to select a delivery day at checkout, they actually only deliver to my area on Fridays. Having already paid for the freezer and knowing how long it takes to get a refund, I said that was fine as long as it arrived before 5pm, though really I wanted it earlier, and had I known I wouldn’t have ordered. I wish I had asked for a refund at this point and saved myself the trouble.

Friday rolled around and I received an email stating my freezer would arrive between 12-5pm. An annoyingly large delivery window that meant I couldn’t leave the house for those five hours, lest the delivery driver appear.

At around 12:30, I received an incomprehensible call from a man with a strong accent, who mumbled something about a delivery. I thought he was telling me he had arrived with the delivery, so I paused my work and went outside….to find no one there. So I called back and was met with more incomprehensible mumbling. He didn’t seem to know what I was calling about, despite having called me only moments before. I was asked for my address (twice!) then told they would be there in an hour…no actually closer to 4 or 5 o’clock. Very confusing, I hung up the call with no sure idea of what they were planning but figuring fine, it would be here by 5pm.

At 4:45pm, still no sign of the delivery and by this time I was getting anxious, as I needed to leave for a restaurant reservation for my father-in-laws retirement. I called the delivery guy, no answer, so I sent another online query.

I got a call back saying that he was in another town 20 mins away and running a bit behind, but would be there soon. So despite having given a five hour delivery window, they were still going to be late. I waited around until 5:30, then sent another online form. The next person to call back took a very unpleasant tone with me, acting as though I was being unreasonable for wanting to know where my delivery was, now half an hour past the end of a FIVE HOUR delivery window. At this point I’ve been stuck in the house waiting around all day, the dog hasn’t been walked, and I am going to be late for the reservation I made for 6:30pm. I emphasised that this was making me late for an important event, did I really need to wait or could they just leave it here? Apparently no, if there was no one to sign for it they wouldn’t deliver it. If they missed me they would deliver it on Monday though. A follow up text after the call informed me that actually they wouldn’t deliver on Monday, they only deliver to my area on Fridays! I wasn’t going to be available the next Friday, and I had a large order (€150+) of pet food on the way that would be wasted if I had no freezer to store it in when it arrived on Tuesday, so I had to wait.

The driver then called at 5:45 and said he would be another half an hour, despite only being in a location 15 mins away from my address. I emphasised that I was already running late for an important event and please, hurry it up!

They finally arrived a HALF SIX. 6:30pm. An hour and a half after the end of the five hour delivery window, and the time I was meant to be at the restaurant for my father-in-laws retirement meal. We lost our reservation as a result of this.

The drivers, there were two, arrived and then asked if I had a ladder? To deliver a freezer to the ground floor of my house. One of them spoke virtually no English. They had loaded all the old machines they had collected throughout the day for recycling in front of my new freezer, so had to empty the whole truck in order to unload my item. The man who lifted the freezer into the house then banged it off every possible surface on the way in too. And no one asked me to sign off on anything- so I don’t know why I had to be there!

So thanks Power City. Ruined a family meal for an important event by being an hour and a half late, and apparently neither your website nor staff are up to date on your delivery policies.

Delivery guy was a gent

Delivery guy was a gent. Nothing was an issue, took away the packaging from the new one and took the old one without complaint.

Please read reviews before purchasing

After a fourth attempt at trying to get someone to help me. I ordered a leisure range cooker on the 20th of May, I was told over the phone that I would have to order an LPG kit but never told how to order it. I contacted powercity on the 26th to ask them how I was to order it and was sent a 2 links (1) for Amazon to purchase the kit and (2) from leisure to order it for free, so I chose leisure. Leisure said it would be 7 working days for me to receive it. I sent powercity an email on Monday 8th of June asking for an Irish number for leisure, no reply, I sent another email yesterday and I got a phonecall to say they would chase it up and get back to me. Also on the day my range cooker arrived (28th May) and packaging was taken off I noticed the leisure badge was upside down, I notified powercity straight away and had someone come back to me to say they had sent on my details to the engineer to be refitted, engineers called out last Thursday (4th) and said they would order a new door and it would arrive this week, I received a phonecall yesterday from another engineer to say he had a badge for my door, I told him a new door was ordered and he replied that he had a badge and a new door but there was no badge on the new door, said he’d be out first thing this morning, which he was at 7.10am he popped off the badge on my grill door and ended up damaging my door, he then produced a new door but when he went to fit it, turns out it was the wrong door, either he brought the wrong one or the wrong door was sent to him. So now I’ve to wait probably another week for the door to be replaced. Surely I would have very good grounds of asking for a refund, because this whole thing has been an absolute nightmare. €1800 is a massive amount of money to just have a range cooker sitting here not working because of an LPG kit and a damaged door that should not have happened in the first place. I then sent of yet another email to ask for a refund, within 10 mins I received a very abrupt phonecall to say they sent me an email (they did not) and asked me was it still in the box, like how after 2 weeks of trying to get it sorted would it still be in the box, I asked him could he send on the email again for my own records which I was told NO it can’t be resent, so I asked for him just to send me an email to say when it was going to be picked up. Basically I’ll get a call on Tuesday for arrangements to have it picked up on Wednesday, then I’ve to wait for god only knows how long for a refund. Never in my life will I purchase from Powercity again. Dreadful company and customer service needs to brush up on their customer skills.

Nicest deliveryman/installer ever

I still don't know the delivery man/installer of our washing machine's name as he installed a cooker for us a month ago, but he simply is the most polite and efficient tradesman I have met.

I have nothing bad to say about him as he phones to say he is on his way and has a very professional yet friendly manner. Long may he continue working for Powercity.
