If I could give this -10 stars I would

If I could give this -10 stars I would. They opened my account and then a two month later they cancel and ran my credit again and never told me they were going to do this by law they need to send a letter out before they pull it. And the customer service is bull crap. No one get this store card if it is using this bank.

My experience with Synchrony started…

My experience with Synchrony started when I purchased a Google Pixel and decided to finance it through Google/Synchrony. My previous Pixel had unexpectedly bricked on me, and I needed a replacement phone right away while I was unemployed at the time. I thought financing through Google/Synchrony would be a convenient option. Looking back, I personally would not choose this financing option again.

The original issue was caused by a mistake on my end. I accidentally paid off the financing balance in full when I did not intend to, so I completely take responsibility for creating the initial situation.

Synchrony issued the excess amount back to me as a refund check, and that amount was placed back onto my financing account as a balance owed. I understood that I would still owe that balance because I was supposed to receive the corresponding money back through the refund check.

The problem was that I never received the first check. I contacted Synchrony several times and eventually had the check reissued. I never received the second check either.

After the second reissue, Synchrony told me to wait several business days to give the check additional time to arrive. I followed their instructions and waited, but it still never came. At that point, I was tired of repeatedly contacting them and waiting for checks that weren't arriving, so I contacted Synchrony again and requested that they void the outstanding check and reverse the corresponding amount on my financing account instead. They eventually did.

However, while I was waiting through this process, interest had accrued on the balance. A $30 automatic payment I had already made went toward that interest, and after the refund amount was reversed, I was left with another $1.39 in interest. I paid the $1.39 to bring my account to zero, meaning I ultimately paid $31.39 in interest.

I contacted Synchrony again and asked whether the $31.39 could be adjusted given the circumstances. They explained that under the terms of my account, any balance is subject to interest, so because the balance existed during the previous billing cycle, the interest was properly assessed.

I understand their explanation, and I recognize that my accidental payment started this entire situation. I'm not claiming that Synchrony's system incorrectly calculated the interest according to the account terms. My frustration is with how limited the system seems to be when something doesn't go according to the standard process.

I never received either refund check. I followed their instructions to wait after the second check was issued, and ultimately the refund had to be voided and reversed anyway. Yet I still ended up paying $31.39 in interest during a process in which I never actually received the refunded money.

I also don't necessarily blame the individual customer service agents. From my experience, they seem very limited in what they are able to do. I was told that they could not electronically transfer the refund, could not waive or remove the interest, and eventually that I had reached the last point of escalation available through chat. I was given a phone number to contact another manager, but at this point I don't feel that continuing to pursue $31.39 through more calls is worth the additional time and frustration.

Ultimately, using Google/Synchrony financing was my choice, and making the accidental payment was my mistake. However, this experience showed me how many limitations there can be when an account issue falls outside of their normal process. Something that should have been relatively simple turned into multiple contacts, two refund checks that never arrived, continued waiting, a reversal, and additional interest.

Personally, I would not use or recommend Google/Synchrony financing again. The lack of flexibility when something goes wrong isn't worth it to me. I would rather use a financing or credit option with more ways to resolve unusual situations instead of being limited to processes that clearly weren't working in my case.

They're very dishonest as well as…

They're very dishonest as well as discriminate against Americans who dispute a charge that was a misunderstanding with the other party involved. The other party reimbursed the rejected transaction from the bank as the bank refused to cancel the transaction forcing me to pay for it on top of fees is indeed credit card fraud against the bank. Shame on them they need to go find a real job instead of stealing from Americans who work hard for their income.

This review should have 0 stars

This review should have 0 stars. This bank is a joke. Be aware that your private information will not be secured ;they outsource to third parties overseas. Since there have been fraudulent activities on my account, they still sent me a new card with the wrong name, for me to continue to use until they can send me a new card with the correct name - wait another billing cycle. I am going on month 2 without access to my account or unable to use my card because they cannot verify my information, there is activity on a new card I have yet to receive/activate, a balance, and they encourage me use the card with the wrong name until they decide to send me a new card...again. Make this make sense. Save yourself the stress and get you a Freedom Chase CC and avoid synchrony cards at all cost.

Another Synchrony bank disaster

Another Synchrony bank disaster. I know they don't care, but I'm still going to express my opinion anyway. Maybe someone else will look here before they get connected with these crooks. I opened the account because it was connected with Walmart, where I shop all the time. It was a bad idea on my part. Nothing to do with WM, only with Synchrony's scam. After my first payment my auto-pay didn't kick in, so my bill was overdue. Boom! Hit me with a thirty five dollar late fee. OK, even though I felt it was wrong, I paid the late fee and said to close my account. They didn't. I get the next month's bill, and there's a two dollar "minimum interest" fee. What the ? How is that even legal? So I called to complain. The result of that call was a warning that if I don't pay the two dollars in time, it will go overdue which will incur another thirty five dollar late fee again. So, a purchase I didn't make will become overdue and slap a late fee on it. And this is who Walmart decides to carry their brand? I guess I have to re-think a couple of things.

Synchrony Bank conniving practices

Synchrony Bank found the way to offer a cheap rate to mayor accounts like TJMaxx, Lowes, Paypal, home depot , etc.. the problem is their management practices are built to connive customers knowing that majority of customers don't follow their own accounts. They charge late payments without being late, stop taking debit payments to force customers to be late on purpose and their customer service speak broken English, so they can't solve any problems .Get ready for a ride .

Do Not Recommend Synchrony

I financed a purchase through Synchrony which came with a 12 month promotional period. I set up autopay and had forgotten the details - I mistakenly thought the entire purchase was interest free. I just discovered that was not the case and the amount of interest I was charged just negated my entire payment history and I am back to square one. Their notice that my promotional period was ending was included in a regular monthly statement (i.e. the headline of the email just read monthly statement) – it was not a separate notice or different subject line. Therefore this was overlooked. I called and offered to pay my entire balance immediately if the interest charge could be reversed and there was nothing they could do. I'm not saying I'm blameless here, but I disdain companies that sneak in warning notices, and then have zero options for forgiveness. This has put me in a bad spot, and I would have never let this happen had I known – I have an excellent credit score and credit history, but they were unwilling to consider ANY option. I would never finance with Synchrony again.

WARNING I REPEAT WARNING

WARNING I REPEAT WARNING - DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT EVER open account with this bank!
This company just randomly closed my good standing account out of the blue, nothing owed closed. Spoke to rep who upgraded my credit card last week never mention closed yet wait 7-10 business days to now can't even activate to only be switched around from rep to rep to Manager who lacked no customer service skills, compassion or empathy! Never heard of bank just closing good standing customer's account. Synchrony bank can take that one star and shove it so far up company asses. CEO, Director, Corporate should be ashamed. How is this company still in business with thousands of bad reviews.

Not satisified with billing!!

I had paid off my account and then I get this bill today
Total fees $3.99, paper statement fee $1.99, mininum interest charge $2.00........for what reason I don't know..........they turn everything into the credit ratings companies....my account had been compromised a while back and they brought my rating down by 52 points. it is still good, but that is ridiculous. I will never charge at Pennys any more or Belk. Its all just a rip off!!!!!!! I am sending in the check since I could not pay on line for some unknown reason just so my credit rating will not be altered again!!!!!!!

Synchrony Bank is absolutely terrible

Synchrony Bank is absolutely terrible, and I would never recommend them. Even when you make every payment on time and pay double the minimum amount due, they can still reduce your credit limit. They do not value responsible customers, and their actions can negatively affect your credit while you are working hard to pay off your balance.

Once I pay off my balances, I am closing every credit card account I have through Synchrony Bank. I will never open another account with them again. Before applying for any store credit card, make sure you check which bank issues it. If it is through Synchrony Bank, think twice and stay away.

Capital One, BrightWay, and Discover have treated me much better. Beware of Synchrony Bank—they are harsh, unfair, and not worth the stress. Beware!

I have been working for moths to help…

I have been working for moths to help my elderly parents receive a $649 credit, which doesn't sound like much but it is when you live on a very fixed (lower income) income. One agent tells you they can't help you unless you can get your senior parent, who has hearing and significant medical issues, give them permission, which I understand, but then they tell you "we'll send you a code in about 10 days in the mail, just call and give us that code and we'll help you." Nope not at all, I have to go through the same nightmare with three different agents only for them to tell me "no we have to update the address first" really it seems like you just want to keep these funds that this senior couple could really use to pay medical and living expenses. Customer service is no service at all, they consistently are unhelpful and provide no information of substance to aid you in resolving issues at all. I honestly feel badly for senior who try to navigate this nightmare on their own. At what point should customer service agents actually provide service and not excuses and no service at all. I would not recommend this organization to anyone. Additionally, they are not accredited by the Better Business Bureau. I would recommend anyone move their business from them unless you really enjoy being gaslighted.

Synchrony Bank's deceptive/fraudulent practices in billing

I wish there were a way to have zero stars... Synchrony bank to charge me an erroneous fee of 1.99 per billing cycle under the name and brand of Discount Tire. Synchrony representatives informed me that this is to cover a bill printed and mailed to me. The approximate cost to do so under bulk mail for Synchrony is 0.42 postage, print and paper, which means they have created a profit stream of 475%. Read that again, that is not a type-o - a markup of 475%

This massive profit point of 475% is forced upon me as a client, without my express permission or approval.

Synchrony Bank furthermore has a policy that I am forced to figure out how to go online, create an account, and find where and how to select that I do not want paper billing to avoid the 1.99 per month charge. Online, there is NO OPTION to switch to paperless billing, further supporting Synchrony's strategy of making a 425% profit on "billing fees".

Now, I have a part time job trying to figure out how to get out of an ongoing fee/charge imposed upon me by Synchrony Bank.
Synchrony representatives told me exactly this, citing that they can not “change” my account status for me, all the while Synchrony indeed changed my account status to mandatory paper billing so that they could make an exorbitant profit margin on billing!
The only way to get out of this fee and switch to paperless billing is that you MUST go to their website then you MUST participate in AI chat, using the correct keywords to get the AI chat to give you hidden links to paperless billing.
I spent 1.5 hours getting credit back for the forced, fraudulent charge for paper billing and then figuring out how to turn off paper billing.
Deception at it's best! Do not do business with nor trust Synchrony, and beware that Synchrony "hides" behind other corporte branded cards and accounts.

I'm coming to the end of the the fraud…

I'm coming to the end of the fraud this bank is really noted for. You can't get away with the damage this bank can cause. And guess what, they can get away with it for now. For anyone concerned about infected Synchrony accounts, do not contact their fraud department. They do absolutely nothing so the whole process is extended. Better move contact, credit agency. Explain to them the mess you are in.

Synchrony Should be sued.

I have had synchrony cards for over 5 years with high limits. I've never used over 30% of any card. I recently paid off my mortgage and they reduced the limit on every one of my cards by thousands. This caused my usage to skyrocket, my availabile credit to reduce, and tanked my credit score. My score dropped a 100 points because of them. It will take years for it to come back up. This should be illegal.

I still never missed a payment nor was I late. they started dropping my credit limit which made my utilization 97%. when I called them they said it's because I have no secured loans and no real estate loans. I just paid my Jeep off and my house is paid in full. this cause my credit score to drop city Bank seen my shot drop and they did the same thing the discover then chase. because I paid my bills and had a heart attack synchrony Bank destroyed my credit score

Harassed for no reason for two months

I have “exceptional” credit, no debts, live within my means but Synchrony Bank managed to find a way to harass me for no reason whatsoever. Required me to provide proof of who I was TWICE. When I asked why, they could not divulge that information as they put my credit card in freeze for a couple months. Then they released the freeze with zero explanation for their actions. AND they were rude throughout the entire process, like I was a criminal. I DO NOT ever recommend Synchrony Bank for anyone.

This is the company is behind Venmo's Visa cards. Beware!

This is the company handles Venmo's Visa cards. Venmo should be ashamed to be in business with them. Custormer is ilequipped to handle payment issues, and their script only allows them to apologize. Spoke to a manager that was smug and arrogant and had not intention of trying to assist in the situation. Done with both of these companies.
