Waiting and waiting

Well I was transferred twice during the call and was left waiting for 15 minutes one time (very frustrating). I kept having to go through security questions twice? Very poor

Unethical

I had an unannounced visit. The guy asked me to confirm my name before saying who he was.

I instantly thought this might be some sort of scam. No reputable businesses arrive asking "Are you First Name, Surname?"

I repeated, who are you - he gave first name only. I asked which company. He repeated his question. I responded: "I do not share any information until I know who is asking". At this point he left.

I was left worried of a case of identity fraud. There is no reason for any supplier to be knocking at my door. Only after checking the mail box, did I see a notice from TVL about 'tried to visit but you were out' which wasn't even accurate. So they try to hide their unethical behaviour. Reps calling are probably paid on commission.

Every year I declare no TV, no license needed. I did this recently so no need to show up unannounced.

Try calling: it's impossible. Website: down! I couldn't even submit a complaint directly to them so I'm venting here.

Diabolical

Diabolical! They've harassed my 89 year old recently widowed mother despite telling them that her property is empty, sending threatening letters to her is disgraceful, then they forward you from a telephone robot to a whatsapp robot and tell you they are to busy, then they send you another list of questions that youve already answered and if you dont pick up their message they delete the thread. 5 hrs later still no further on , im looking after my one year old grandchild, i cant sit and wait for when the whatsapp robot chooses to reply. Robots dont apologise either, disgraceful organisation

Advice for Businesses

I keep getting letters to my business saying that I will be fined imminently for not having a TV licence. I don't provide a TV or any devices for staff to watch TV. I do provide WIFI so have reached out on many occasions to get advice to see if this qualifies for needing a licence, for personal devices.
The website is awful and doesn't allow conversation only standard answers, and when you call there is an automated message saying that no one is available.

Disgusting

Funny. They keep sending me threatening letters because APPARENTLY I've been watching I Player....WRONG. I don't use the RACIST ANTI BRITISH CORPORATIONS services out of PRINCIPAL! They are so desperate for my money and they won't be getting a penny haha! They are the scurge of the media and I'm not funding their RACIST, ANTI BRITISH agenda.

These guys do not leave you alone until you buy a TV license. I dont watch TV, but in the UK that means you have to pay this tax to not be harassed by their letters and emails.
Soon they're all going to be out of work though because the UK government are just going to add the fee to council tax and you'll have to pay it whether you watch TV or not.
Got another email from them today. I guess I should just update my email to one I dont actually read any more.

Stop sending me letters

Stop sending me letters. We have stopped watching TV for years but sending these letters out every 6 months is a disgrace. Stop harassing people. More and more people wake up and stop watching TV because it is utter crap!

Option for 1 star don’t even deserve that. forcing and making it’s own rules harassing people for only subscriptions fees calling it tv licence instead. .collecting billions of pounds it’s own interests. Above all don’t even Broadcast cast real news or any football like match of day. If I’m not interesting to watch bbc then it should have option to block subscription fees like sky

Had a visit to say I haven’t got a TV…

Had a visit to say I haven’t got a TV licence I said who are you he said aggressively tv licensing .
I told him go away and I will check and pay if I don’t .
I panicked so when I went online it asked me to pay which I did .
I then kept getting harassment messages to pay from Tv licensing .
I realised something was off 10 months later and on calling was told I had 2 tv licences same name and same address.
They then had the audacity to say we have cancelled one account but if you want a refund you will have to write in.
I eventually got my refund months later.
Wondering how many households have got caught out with this.
The ombudsman should check with tv licensing so this never happens again.

How many times do I have to declare.

They used to ask to declare once a year that you don't need a licence.
Their own email confirmation from January 2025 says my declaration is valid until end of January 2026.
But, I received a new email in August this years, and a letter today asking for a new declaration.
I first didn't trust the email, wondering if it was a scam. So it takes me time and effort to find out if it's genuine or not.
Their letter is also very unclear: in the beginning of the letter they say:
We contacted you recently to confirm if you need a TV licence.
And then at the bottom of the letter it says:
If your circumstances haven't changed, there's no need to to anything.

Which one is it now?
Just to be sure, I declared once again that I don't need a licence....

Outdated and high-level harassment service

An outdated and high-level harassment company.

If we are being honest this is just a subscription to the BBC.

People don't stop watching Netflix, cancel it and then receive letters of enforcement and constant threats. With big red letters all over.

The level of enforcement the BBC has on this is completely outdated and will very much be remembered when the TV licence ends and they want our public funding.

We have filled in the exemption form, it has been accepted, filled in the declaration and still receive letters threatening enforcement.

This company should not have priority debt powers over people.

I made a call to renew my tv licence & change my bank details. I was connected through to a man called Sam, who was very helpful & certainly knows his job. Sam is certainly a credit to the tv licensing authority & his telephone manners are exceptional. Definitely 5 star service 👍

Great at threatening ‘a knock at the door’ to the newly bereaved-we’re talking weeks-and following up with what I guess will be the first of many written intimidatory communications, even knowing the circumstances.
Yes, the DD ended when the deceased’s bank account closed. No, the surviving spouse does not want to continue with the licence. No, they will not be the 1/10 watching illegally.
Not sure how this is allowed. Will consider cancelling my TVL on the back of it and they can write and doorstep as often as they like.

Negative experience when trying to renew my TV licence

Very negative experience when trying to renew my TV license.

When I eventually got through to one of the staff advisors after being on the phone for sometime trying to get through to a person. when exclaiming the problem to the male advisor of the issue I was having makeing a payment online,the phone was put down, a and I had to go through the whole process again.
When speaking to the complaints department.,the response was I know this person it must have been an IT issue as I know he wouldn’t have deliberately put the phone down.
This was quite concerning that the complaints team was not impartial and didn’t seem to understand policies around confidentiality and being transparent..

The most frustrating problem is the payment still hasn’t gone through and no solution to fixing the problem was being told to phone back next week.

Address change

Totally agree with other comments left on here. All I need is an address change for my Mothers new house. I cannot find any paperwork & therefore no account numbers. I only asked if they could write to her with the details (at her old address, mail is being redirected), no they cant = GDPR?? I made a comment that I would leave review on Trustpilot and she hung up. Yet the message before connecting the operator said they may ask for feedback! strange way of doing things.
NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS.
I asked her to put notes on the account that I had spoken to them today (for ref. later when they want a license at the new address).

What an absolute waste of time

What an absolute waste of time, sending endless letters at licence payers expense. Do you not realise that most people try and respond via your website but give up as so complex and confusing? Sort you processes out and stop harassing people!

I received a letter from the BBC.

I received a letter from the BBC with no return address, saying I did not have a TV licence. I have paid by direct debit for years and my DD is till being paid monthly. The systems the BBC offer to resolve the problem are completely on line and useless to use.
My only use of the BBC nowadays is for news from America. the rest is junk and not worth watching. Time for a change.
