Yes, the product took several years but most of that was due to the pandemic. The issues with customer support, in my opinion, also traces back to the pandemic - delays and supply chain issues added to their production and delivery times. You try working for years to get a product working to specifications - see what that does to the budget, how nothing is left for customer service. Honestly, I am amazed that they didn't throw in the towel after 2021 much less after delivering the initial Kickstarter packages. And yet a lot of folks complain. I've backed projects where the group really did "take the money and run away".

I backed the Coffeejack as a present for my husband who, before the pandemic, traveled a lot for work. After the start of the pandemic, with the shutdowns followed by numerous retooling and "back to the drawing board" updates, I was 50-50 that the product would be delivered. I paid the extra for the shipping, realizing the reasons behind the request was extraordinary. Yes, I had a few thoughts of "a sucker born every day", would I ever get the Coffeejack, etc.. I was thrilled when it arrived. I immediately gave it to my husband. He was confused at first but then, his eyes lit up

My husband wrote the following product review:

This is a great portable espresso maker! It does take a little bit of getting used to the technique, but all espresso makers do. After you've worked with it for a few days, it produces an espresso that is every bit as good as that I can produce with my home espresso machine.

There are a few key points to the technique:

1) Buy yourself a puck screen right away. You'll want a 45.5 mm puck screen for good results. Without the puck screen, you'll get a LOT of channeling, and very bitter espresso. The puck screen is an easy fix for this problem.

2) Use the right espresso powder. Personally I find that Lavazza Espresso Italiano works very well in this device.

3) Get a puck tamper. I use an auto-leveling spring-loaded tamper that applies 25# if I remember correctly, and it makes a world of difference. Do NOT rely on the "auto-tamper" in the device. The "auto-tamper" is basically putting the powder in the cup, screwing the cup on, and letting the shower screen compress the powder. It makes for very bitter extraction.

4) Learn how much espresso powder to use. After filling with powder, tamping, and adding the puck screen, you don't want the cartridge to be full enough to cause any resistance when you attach it.

5) Use truly boiling water

6) Pre-infuse, by pumping 2-3 times, then let it stand for about 60 seconds before doing the full extraction.

Follow those guidelines, and you'll be very happy with the espresso you'll get out of this machine! I used to pack my espresso machine in the trunk of the car, and haul it along on vacation and road trips. Coffeejack has replaced it.

Negatives? It would be nice if the shower screen was designed such that the puck screen wasn't necessary. But it's a minor point. I used a puck screen on my home machine too. Second point would be that the plastic palm handle, that you use to pump the device, had a crack in it when the device arrived. They would probably replace it, but I've never pursued it.

Last one is a weird one: Until I read about a trick for getting the used puck out of the cup, I worried about damaging the device every time that I had to dig the puck out using a toothpick or spoon or scraping it out with my fingers. There is a better way! Simply unscrew the cup, turn it upside down, place it to your mouth, and blow into the valve that the coffee normally comes out of. The whole puck will eject cleanly and easily. Weird, but it works.

I can't really think of anything else.

Overall, a very nice device that produces good espresso once you master it.

CoffeeJack allows me to make enjoyable espresso coffee, simply & easily. A slow & steady pumping of the plunger, forces the added hot water through the basket of coffee: resulting in an espresso. Cleaning is straightforward, since the coffee is only in the basket, & the upper parts just contact hot water. A good idea, well-executed. Highly recommended.

I later ordered the well made stand & tamper, both of which have improved the experience.

I too, backed the CoffeeJack on kickstarter. While it took longer to arrive than anticipated, this is pretty much a 'given', especially for precision projects with multiple parts made from a variety of materials.

Despite the difficulty of the communicating the complexity a new product, the story of the the development has been one of the joys ofbacking this product. It has been fascinating to watch the process. Worth whatever cost the product may have.

It took along time, Coffee quality is quite good.

The coffee jack is very impressive once you get the hang of it. It takes a bit of practice and knowledge of grind texture to pull an espresso with proper crema. I genuinely believe that the stand and tamp are essential items to have alongside the Coffeejack if you want to create a coffee that is significantly better than a mokapot or French press. Without them I don’t think it’s possible to get the barista grade extraction advertised.

Overall I am happy with what I bought, I backed the kickstarter and waited patiently. I appreciate the incredible efforts that the team have gone to to see this project through when many could’ve given in.

All my coffee loving friends are blown away by how smart it is. It is a good product, even though it can feel a bit fragile at times, the Coffeejack was purchase I’ll never regret.

This little machine is very well made, spare parts are readily available and above all, the thing makes coffee!
It's up to you to know how to select good quality coffee beans and prolong it's life by properly storing it. COFFEEJACK makes coffee easily. You can take it anywhere you go. you provide the hot water and the coffee of your choice. What an excellent machine in such a compact form. Took a little time to get the grind and dosage correct, but after I got that right it produced beautiful coffee. The perfect travel companion or for anyone who can’t afford a genuine espresso machine.

They’ve had a super tough time but they’ve worked so hard and the product is so good. Ignore the bad reviews, understand they are human and slow currently due to acting fiscally responsible but know that the product is worth it. I waited 2-3 years for coffee jack to arrive as a first backer and actually loved the process and seeing their determination to persevere. You won’t be waiting that long now so get in fast before they sell out again!

My COFFEJACK coffee, at the end of my working day, is the highlight of my day. Best coffee I’ve been able to make at home, and better than most cafés, outside Italy.

Really awesome, small, portable device! I use it almost daily, and enjoy the ritual of making my espresso in the morning. I love the small footprint it has on my counter. It produces really good espresso, and it has me now experimenting with different beans and grinds to explore different flavors.

I backed it on Kickstarter, and received the product. Yes, it was a couple of years later than I'd thought, but understandable due to COVID delays.

Whilst delivery of my machine took an awful long time, (somewhere along the line I thought it would never come and the whole thing was a huge scam) arrive it did. The machine is very well made and engineered, I have since ordered some other 'bits' to compliment it and we can go from there. The three stars reflect my experience over the many years I had to wait for it.

As a kickstarter, the crowd funded product hit inevitable problems given Covid and various conflicts impacting logistics. Irrespective, I was excited to receive my coffeejack, minus a bag clip (that I’d also ordered, promised would follow on and still haven’t received a year later). It took a while to dial in the process, but made a nice brew. However, after a year of use two of the three bayonet fittings cracked and the unit is now useless. Written to coffeejack via multiple platforms with no response. The concept is good but the execution has been frustrating so I cannot recommend.

The CoffeeJack works really well and the accessories ordered, both at the same time and subsequently, also make the coffee making process enjoyable and, more importantly, produce great coffee every time.
Yes, there was a very prolonged wait (I was one of the original backers) and these were explained via emails at the time (Engineering and production issues, Covid et al). Obviously being one of those customers who have received their order I'm delighted with the end result. I'm sure if I hadn't yet received the product I would be very upset as many of the reviewers are. During the long waiting period I accepted this is a start-up company with a very complex engineered product, made in China and add to that the global pandemic which hit the manufacturing centre in Shenzhen, and therefore, once I'd paid my money there wasn't much I could do about the result. Fortunately, for me, the wait was worth it and I will happily buy other products from this company.

As an airline pilot, I typically have a choice between brewed coffee (with water stored in the airplane) or instant coffee (with bottled water heated in a hot pot). Neither provided a decent cup of coffee. The CoffeeJack Kickstarter program appeared to be a way to enjoy coffee my way, while on the airplane and not have to carry a lot of equipment.
Yes, the program encountered obstacles that the developers may or may not have planned for but, as a credit to their desire and belief in their product, they did create a finished product.
I have been using my CoffeeJack for several months now with regular and espresso grinds, mostly while in the air. The two problems I have run into were entirely due to using the maker incorrectly (too much grind in the basket causing sealing problems and running water through the basket twice). The machine appears well built and sturdy, and has survived many trips around the world with me in its travel container. Now that I am comfortable using it I am enjoying coffees that I find around the world as well as sharing with my fellow crewmembers.

If this device and the CoffeeJackers could be given less than 1 star, that’s what they deserve. CoffeeJack hasn’t earned zero stars. I backed this project on Kickstarter back in 2018. They still haven’t delivered everything I paid for, including extras from this e-commerce site. Go check the comments on Kickstarter or IndieGoGo if you want to see for yourself. The unfortunate reality is that after 4 years of waiting, the product is simply not a good product. It will not produce espresso, and it’s way too much hassle and bother for a gadget that makes a mediocre coffee at best. Not worth the money, you will be disappointed. An Aeropress makes much better coffee at a fraction of the price. If you want to spend money, get a decent grinder and always use good beans, you will be much happier. Bringing anything to do with CoffeeJack into your life will only deliver frustration, disappointment, and regret.

Love my coffee jack. I know a lot of people are angry about the wait. Kickstarters projects are like this. The fact they didn't give up is testerment for the product to succeed.

I waited an exceptionally long time to receive the product, but we were given constant updates as the project faced numerous challenges over the pandemic. I eventually got mine and it certainly does make a very good cup of coffee. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and does a great job.

Great product! I know it took a lot of hard work to get here! I won't blame anyone for what COVID hath wrought. It took a while to get it, but I love my CoffeeJack and the brew it makes. Best of luck to Ashley and all the others that made it a reality!

I backed the Coffeejack Kickstarter campaign knowing that there was a possibility I would lose my money - backing these projects is a risk and this is made very clear from the outset.

Despite all the delays due to the pandemic I eventually received my Coffeejack in March 2023 and have been using it happily ever since. It produces very high quality espresso without taking up the worktop space of an electric espresso machine.

My only complaint is that it isn't supplied with a tamper (a simple plastic one would do), so I had to find an object of the right diameter to do the job. They do now sell a metal tamper as an add-on but it's very expensive for what it is.
