Had a phone call from Dcl today as I do most years however today I was talking to a guy called mathew santos renewed my policy with him at a lower price e from last year nothing was to much trouble when I asked him to get me a price to protect my no claims anyway was great service well done Mat .

Helpful and comfortable dealings
I discussed my renewal with Cieran, who was very accomodating, responded even though he was on another call and covered all the policy requirements as needed. He made me feel comfortable.

Where do I even begin with DCL Insurance?
My vehicle was damaged, and from the start this claim was handled terribly. I wasn’t happy with the repairers they use, so I asked if I could use my own reputable garage. I was told I’d have to pay an extra £500 excess to do so — which I wasn’t happy about, but I agreed anyway. Their labour rate is ONLY £35 per hour. If you own an expensive vehicle, be aware that proper repair rates can easily be double that, so you can already see the issue.
My repairer inspected the vehicle and was authorised to begin repairs. Then additional damage was found — completely normal in accident repairs — and suddenly DCL decided to total loss the vehicle.
I called them and was told they could get it repaired much cheaper from their own repairers. I said fine, go ahead, as I didn’t want to lose my vehicle. Weeks went by with no updates. When I chased them, I was told the engineer was “waiting for parts prices.” Then out of nowhere, they wrote the vehicle off anyway, DCL were claiming my repairer’s quote was too high — even though it was completely reasonable and DCL found that out when they done abit of research.
The whole process dragged on for over TWO MONTHS.
I then requested to retain my salvage due to sentimental value. They charged me an extremely high amount because they knew what the vehicle meant to me, leaving me with no real choice but to pay it.
To make matters worse, they refused to cover storage charges — charges that only built up because THEY prolonged the claim, failed to communicate properly, and kept changing their position. They made up excuses, didn’t keep in touch, and tried to shift blame.
They still haven’t paid the storage charges and my vehicle hasn't been released.
None of this was my fault. None of it was my repairer’s fault. This was entirely down to DCL’s poor handling, inconsistent decisions, and rude, unhelpful customer service staff. They say one thing and do another.
If you own an expensive vehicle, stay well clear of DCL Insurance.
And DCL — before you post a generic response to this review — please be aware I have call recordings to back up everything I’ve written here.
