I recently moved into a furnished…

I recently moved into a furnished rented apartment, but unfortunately my experience has been disappointing. On the day of the move, the beds had no mattresses, which meant I had nowhere to sleep. As all my belongings were already packed in my previous apartment, I had to stay in another apartment for the entire weekend.

There were also many leftover items from the previous tenants that had not been cleared, and despite raising this with the company, they have refused to arrange collection.

Additionally, although the property is advertised as furnished, the mattress provided (although new) is very poor quality and extremely squeaky. The landlord/agency has also declined to provide basic furniture such as a coffee table, TV stand, and bedside table, which I ultimately had to purchase myself.

Overall, this has been a frustrating start to the tenancy and not what I expected from a furnished rental.

Severely lacking attention to detail

This company makes so many mistakes that I am often not sure if I am dealing with an actual company or a sloppy school project. They missed an appointment because they "forgot to put it in the diary", they moved other appointments around at short notice because "it wasn't confirmed yet" (after agreeing to a time a few hours earlier). When it came to paying the deposit and first weeks' rent, they requested a higher deposit than was agreed to in the contract. They did correct the amount when I pointed it out to them, but didn't offer anything in the way of an apology. If I had made such a significant error in my job, my first priority would be to apologise to the customer! Last but not least, they made a substantial error in drafting my fixed-term contract, which has allowed me to move out early (fortunately for me). In short, this company is just a pain to deal with. I would advise both tenants and landlords to steer clear.

Poor communication, even worse service.

Moved into an HMO last year. Newly refurbished to a very poor (cheap) standard. What was once likely a 2/3 bedroom house now had 6 bedrooms. On moving in, these issues became evident. Neither the dishwasher nor washing machine worked and the walls were paper thin. When I contacted the lettings agent regarding the appliances, I was advised I needed to go through the online portal to log this but the house account had not been set up. I went back to the agent, and they refused to do any work until they had set up the online account. This was neither a quick or efficient process and required lots of chasing.
When I gave notice to move out, I was advised to vacate the property by 2pm on my move out date. When I arrived at the property to remove my remaining possessions in the morning, the landlord and cleaning time had already accessed my room and placed my belongings in binbags as LetCo had not communicated the agreed time with the landlord.
Moreover, following moving out, I am yet to receive my deposit back despite over 4 months of chasing. I was initially advised by the landlord that some deductions would be made for cleaning and painting but after requesting an itemised bill for these, all communications ceased. The agency couldn’t even tell me where my deposit was registered and though their role is to facilitate communication and ensure disputes are handled fairly, this has not been the case and I am still in the dark about when my money may be returned.
Avoid this company at all costs!!!

Do not let from here they don't care about you. I was allowed to stay in a flat with rising damp and the agency done absolutely nothing pushing landlord to get the work done instead caused mould and health problems. Also ignore all emails and refused inspection reports as that proves how lazy they and landlord are. I have seeked legal advice

Paid Premium Rent for Third-World Conditions – Outrageous

I honestly wouldn’t wish this letting experience on anyone.

From the start, communication was poor and unprofessional. When we called to ask about a forgotten garage key, the person on the phone was immediately rude and dismissive to my girlfriend.

When I (her partner) took over the call to try to resolve things, he continued to be unnecessarily confrontational and unhelpful.

The condition of the property was another major issue. A leak was reported at the start of July, and by the time we moved out at the end of August, it still hadn’t been fixed. On top of that, we were left without a working boiler twice, for a total of around 1–2 months, meaning no heating in winter and no hot water—with no substitute heating or any support offered during that time.

Perhaps the most disturbing issue was the water tank in the loft, which had bugs in it. We were left for six weeks before this was resolved, and in that time we were unknowingly brushing our teeth and washing with contaminated water. Completely unacceptable.

Despite the high rent, the service was shockingly bad and at no point were we offered any form of compensation, even after repeated issues. Now, even after leaving the property, we’re still waiting for the return of our deposit and have been ignored repeatedly after calling multiple times.

If you're thinking about renting from this company, don’t. The property may look decent, but the support, service, and care are non-existent. You're left on your own when things go wrong—and they will go wrong.

Letco are trying to make bogus claim

Letco are trying to make a claim to keep my deposit when a micro fracture appeared in a 12 year old, already bowed (already cracked when we moved in) kichen worktop appeared and your trying to rip me off! I left the flat professionally cleaned and immaculate (which wasn’t the case when I moved in) it was filthy. you’re trying to rip me off! I am a decorated combat veteran and suffer with combat PTSD and you’re making me ill!! Megan jones at Southampton is vile and if this goes to dispute I will submit my mountain of evidence and then take legal action against letco. it’s gone 11pm at night and I’m sat awake not able to sleep with worry because of your Southampton branch! It’s disgusting how you have treated me and I will make it known how you treat tenants!!

If you can avoid, you should


I experienced multiple issues throughout my tenancy that were either ignored or poorly handled by both LetCo as the managing agent, and my landlord. One serious concern was that the smoke detector was present but non-functional from day one - a clear safety breach under UK law. I raised this multiple times, including during property inspections, but nothing was done until after I signalled I’d be ending the tenancy.

At the end, the agency attempted to deduct £200 from my deposit for minor wear and tear, including marks and garden weeds that were clearly documented in the check-in report. It was only after I made clear I would pursue legal action and report the safety breach that they agreed to return my full deposit - something that should never have been in dispute. Such an absolutely appalling way to treat a customer.

A frustrating experience from start to finish. If you’re considering renting through this agency, or doing any business with them, I strongly advise you to document everything, know your rights, and be prepared to stand your ground against LetCo.

Regarding the proposed £200 deduction, I'd like to clarify that this came from your landlord. As the managing agent, part of our role is to facilitate communication and ensure disputes are handled fairly. Once we received your comments, we were able to raise this with the landlord and have the proposed deduction removed for you.

It’s disappointing to hear that your overall impression of the tenancy was negative, as this isn’t reflective of the experience we aim to provide — nor of the feedback we usually receive. That said, I will review this with our team to identify any areas where we can improve.

Morgen was brilliant and helped us…

Morgen was brilliant and helped us endlessly with trying to move to back to Portsmouth, even though we didn’t end up moving due to circumstances Morgen was still brilliant and helpful. I would highly recommend when using LetCo agency to ask for Morgen.

Outstanding Letting Agent

Megan has been an outstanding letting agent manager for me over the past few years. Over the many ups and downs of being a landlord she has been super helpful, very quick to respond to communication and very good when we had multiple complex issues going on at the same time. I can highly recommend her and Letco which has very reasonable fees.
