Always Hassle Free and Straightforward to Deal With
We use Monarch regularly and have never had any issues so I totally recommend them.
Good Service
Always had good service from Monarch.
On one occasion I was delayed 6 hours but I was compensated within 1 month for the inconvenience.

Worked out well in the end although I was worried at points!
Usually I'll fly Ryanair or easyjet but decided on this occasion to fly monarch- similar prices but the flight times suited me better. I've noticed monarch is definitely using the low cost model- as expected, charges everywhere (choosing seat, baggage etc). I chose hand luggage only and wouldn't book a seat.
Monarch don't let you check in until 24 hours before with no seat reservation so we tried to check in the day before. Strangely, there is no mobile boarding pass option which I hadn't anticipated which caused panic as we have no printer. Upon getting to the airport however they printed the tickets no problem. They also gave us priority boarding for free on the way.
They purposely seat you not with your group to make money from selling seats (even though you can see there are available seats). I chanced asking nicely at the airport to move us and they moved us together with no charge onto extra leg room seats. It seems like you can't get anything done without paying lots online but the staff are helpful and reasonable once you get to the airport so in that respect they get points over Ryanair.
Check-in SCAM!
Well, these days you just accept everything from low cost airlines. Tiny and shaky plain, absolutely no comfort, rude staff. The usual. But now to add to it they include scam charges when you check-in so you can "pick your seat". And the website shows you NOWHERE when or how to do it for free. I wasted £15 thinking I had to pay to check-in. Absolute scam! First time and last with monarch.
Manchester - Tenerife
Excellent flights and service was very friendly. The new design of seats give you plenty of room. I am 6ft 3ins and 23st and had plenty of room. Well impressed as they are normally known to have the least seat pitch. Would definitely fly with them again as first choice to Tenerife.
Experience was pleasant but...one thing we all noticed
It was my first time flying with Monarch and I had heard good things but to my dismay when I got to bag drop as well as the gate the staff looked a mess. They were wearing messy flimsy cardigans and t shirts. I didn't think an airline would stope so low as to allow there staff to wear t-shirts. They really stood out when you look at Norwegian, BA and all the others who obviously had standards in place and not a t shirt in sight, this is a workplace. Never the less my experience wasn't unpleasant but I did feel as if uniform standards were unimportant.
Booking flights
Having booked with low cost holidays and flying with monarch . They went into liquidation on the Friday . So on the Saturday morning I went into One world travel in Wakefield West Yorkshire to book the full holiday again thinking I had lost the total holiday. After paying for the holiday I was told by a friend to check if low cost holidays had paid for my flights. I then rang monarch airlines with my reference booking on Saturday afternoon. The man on the phone from monarch made it clear that the flights were still valid . So on Sunday morning I went back to the travel agents to explain that I now had 4 seats for 2 people . So one world travel phoned monarch up which I witnessed and told them about the seats . They also made it clear that the seats I had booked with low cost holidays were definitely valid . So I used the spare seats and booked another holiday with the spare seats to Tenerife in December. So we arrived at Manchester airport on 13th October 2016 and went to check in which we was told our flights were not booked . Feeling embarrassed we were sent to the monarch airlines information desk . And we explained everything wot monarch had said to us and one world travel. He just said when we phoned monarch to check the flights . The monarch rep behind the counter said they had wiped all the flights off from low cost holidays when they went to work on that Monday. We were never informed of this till we tried checking in on 13th October. We thought this was so un professional after twice saying they were OK . They just said if we wanted to fly on 13th October we had to pay £462 for flights. We paid for the flights but was not happy . It was monarchs fault 100% . Ive used monarch for 24yrs and feel we should be refunded the cost of £462 with an apology
Extremely smooth flight - professional personnel
Great flight.
Clean and modern cabin.
Reasonably priced flights and fried breakfast! Highly recommend the whole experience.
Finally, an excellent landing. Didn't feel the plane land. Thanks Monarch!
Excellent service
I flew to Tenerife with my 6 yr old daughter and I couldn't of asked for a better service, they was great with her and was coming over to us to chat to her to make sure she was okay, on the way home one offered a hot water bottle because it was cold, and then because it was a night flight made her a bed up on the seats to let her get some sleep! Thank you so much!
Scammers
They will try to scam you with every change they get. Watch out. Pay a few euros more because you will be scammed out of your money anyway if you fly with Monarch.
Plane
Flight zb284 the staff were polite . Food was appalling and the plane was dirty . As the plane was late it looks like cleaning did not take place . Will never fly with dirty monarch again will stick to either Thomson or BA witch are clean.
Excellent airline
Another two excellent flights with Monarch airlines this week. I like the fact that they have the walkway on and off the plane. The staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The hand baggage allowance is good. Generally all good and I will definitely use them again.
Terrible customer service
Terrible customer service, very disappointed with Monarch! When I got to London Gatwick from Barcelona on Saturday morning I surprisingly found out the the company left my luggage behind. I was told they'll send the luggage with a BA flight on Saturday eve and will be receiving it on Sunday. No sign of my luggage on Sunday and when I called the customer service team I was told it was currently on a flight to London and that I will be receiving it on Monday. I have also noticed they didn't get my address right so I asked them to update it. After checking the status online this morning I've realised they haven't actually updated my address. So, I called again and was told that my luggage is going to be send today from Barcelona and will be receiving it tomorrow. I asked for compensation for my trouble but apparently the company doesn't offer any. I am definitely not going to fly with Monarch again and I'll make sure everyone know what type of service they provide.
Not so much of an understanding airline
Initially, when I booked with Monarch - I naturally assumed that they would be better than Ryanair and quite a good airline but I think I am wrong! I was due to fly back from Barcelona with them to Birmingham this week but my grandfather passed away so I decided no longer to go. I tried to fill in an online form for bereavement but they didn't have one (Ryanair has one, which is excellent) so I tried to phone - call centres are closed on a weekend?! So I waited until Monday to phone them and I explained what has happened to the woman on the phone and she said is doing it through insurance not possible? If it was - why would I be on the phone to Monarch trying to get a refund?! So, after what felt like persuasion to get my money back - she finally admitted they DO give credit notes towards your next flight with Monarch in the next 12 months. Err, what if I don't want to fly Monarch again or they go bust? What do I do then? I sent them the death certificate and am waiting for a response. I guess it's better than nothing but I had high hopes for this airline and was expecting it to be much better than Ryanair but it isn't! Ryanair are MUCH more understanding! Also, £3 to check in online? What's that all about? Ryanair - it is FREE the week before! It might be an OK airline to fly with but not when something happens!
Edit
I finally used the credit note. I flew to Rome and the flight was great! Friendly staff, clean plane and landed 20 minutes early! I am due to fly them to Madrid next month and Tel Aviv later in the year (at an AMAZING price!) would recommend! Hope they don't go bust like some rumours suggest!
Stealth Surcharge How to spoil the beginning of a holiday.
Monarch should let customers know upfront that, after they have bought their seats, if travelling with a partner or family, when checking in online if you want to be seated together you will be charged a surcharge. £14.00 per person return. £28.00 per couple. If known upfront, when shopping for flights, this surcharge could be a deal breaker. Very sneaky and very greedy.
New seating
I use Monarch usually 8 flights a year and have never had a problem. I usually book the extra leg room seats as I did for the flight to Fuerteventura . However when I went to sit down the seat cushion was loose in fact it wasn't loose it wasn't fixed at all, neither was my husbands or the man sat next to us. I queried this with the stewardess who said it was new seating which could be changed if there had been a problem and not to worry I would be safe if I kept my seatbelt on. I said if someone sat on the edge of the seat they would tip off and she admitted that the crew didn't like the seats and a child had fallen off a few days before. I query is it safe to have a seat cushion that just sits on the seat base and not fastened down at all? Also the gap between seats has got smaller. Not worth paying for extra room if these new planes are anything to go by
Don't miss the flight or you'll get wacked!
Following a car hitting the QE2 bridge on the M25 we were stuck in traffic for a few hours resulting in our flight being missed. Monarch offered us the next flight to our destination Antalya 3 days later or go to Dalaman 5 hours away from our hotel. They also kindly charged us £250 for the privilege (apparently that was without the admin charge and a good discount!). We were then delayed on the next flight by a passenger being taken ill (obviously not the fault of Monarch).
They also do not accept electronic boarding passes (on phone) which is a bit old school!
Flight cancelled
My flight was cancelled and I was offered an alternative flight from an airport 100s of miles away. My flight was meant to be for a weekend break and would have just required me taking a Friday afternoon off work and the replacement flights would have required me taking all of Friday and Monday (which I can't). The only other option was flight vouchers, which as soon as Monarch flights to all other destinations cost way more than Ryanair (who haven't cancelled any of the 50+ flights I've taken with them) are pretty useless. Give me my money back with interest for the 4 months you've kept it and a refund on my hotel deposit, Monarch. It's the least they should do.
Disgusting flight attendant
After spending my flight being bullied and harmed by the man and his family in the seats in front of me, the flight attendant clearly was too frightened to challenge him directly, so decided to enable the bully by trying to get me to move my seat. As a lone, pregnant female on this flight, monarch's member of staff thought it was easier to pressure me and she behaved appallingly. I recorded her conduct, as I was gobsmacked by her tactics. Given that I had made it clear if this man touched me again, I wanted the police called, the staff member ignored this and told me I was not calm because I was crying. She too might have cried if she had been intentionally physically harmed by someone. This man and his partner had been drinking at the airport and during the flight and the flight attendant did nothing when he leant over her, to shout at me. Monarch staff should be ashamed of themselves. I have never flown Monarch before and of course it goes without saying I will never fly with them again. I would urge people to consider their options when flying, as other airlines have their problems don't get me wrong, but the worst I have ever experienced is diverted to another airport, because of weather in the past 20yrs, never been allowed to be bullied, intimidated and physically harmed before.
Not far off from ryanair
Dear Customer Services,
Why do your company, Monarch Airlines insist on operating like Ryanair? Let me tell you my booking journey and you'll understand why I make this statement
I was looking for a flight to Ibiza last week. I see it for £100 return on a comparison site. Great I thought, I'll go with Monarch! Lo and behold, there's a troll under the bridge.
First off is the baggage fee. £25 each way for a 20kg bag. Really? My flight to carry me, a human being (I weight 95kg) is £100 and you charge me £50 for a return journey when the bag that weighs 20kg? Brilliant. I've decided to not pack the clothes I actually want to bring, rather than pay this ridiculous sum.
Next is the seat fees. £4 for a seat each way. Why is there a fee to sit down? You didn't offer me the option to stand up for free did you? So why is that not included in the price. Complete and utter skullduggery, there really is no excuse at all.
The last one (which doesn't surprise me) is credit card fees. £5 to pay by credit card? Credit card fees are capped at 0.3% (a quick google search). So, in theory my flight of £100 should have cost 30p to be processed, not £5. That's a 1560% markup on what it actually costs. You could have been reasonable and said £1, but no, let's try and aim as low as Ryanair.
In summary, your booking system is a joke and the level of price transparency would make the Mafia shake your hand. If you continue to operate like this, do yourselves a favour, change your name to Ryanair, then everyone will know who to avoid.
