The Palm Centre is the original and premier UK nursery for hardy exotics. Established in 1989 by Martin Gibbons, it has since expanded into the 4 acre nursery in Richmond where we grow, propagate and source a large variety of both indoor and outdoor plants, from the rare and unusual to those more common place in horticulture today.
The Palm Centre is a 4 acre nursery which includes several large glasshouses and outdoor display areas, situated in the old kitchen gardens of Ham House, right by the River Thames in Richmond.
We specialise in a wide range of plants from palm trees to herbaceous perennials. Our established relationships with growers all around Europe and further afield allow us to hold a diverse range of plants for your home, garden or bigger landscaping projects.
Our online shop is a selection of the broader stock you can browse at our nursery in Ham, London. Come and visit the nursery to see an even wider selection, featuring the largest specimens we have.
We love the unusual and the large, and aim to keep good stock levels as consistent as possible. However, with the range we carry and the seasonal nature of our industry it’s not always achievable.

Poor value for the money
The fern arrived it was in a small pot,it was supposed to be 2 to 3lt pot. I wouldn't buy this plant even if it was in the reduced section of the garden centre!!. The Palm centre has now refunded my money for the fern.

Amazing bamboo plant
The quality of the bamboo plant we received was brilliant. The plant was a lot bigger and fuller than we expected and was well packed when we received it. Would definitely buy again from this company.

Banana Tree
We originally bought some ferns from the Palm Centre at the Hampton Court Flower show this year, so were aware of them. Subsequently bought a banana tree, it came well packaged and of good size, The first new leaf is close to emerging and looks to be of good size and healthy. Would recommend them. Very good experience.

Excellent Service
I Buy a lot of on-line plants and have been very disappointed with both packaging and plant condition on far too many occasions. This time I was happy to receive my order. Excellent packaging, fast delivery and the ferns are in fantastic condition. Very pleased and look forward to buying from the Palm Centre again.

Hi Stuart, indeed the plant size may look a bit underwhelming, as they are pretty slow to to grow when they are young plants. The main reason for the high price of these is because propagation of Tetrapanax papyrifer is fairly difficult and a lot of the young plants fail to establish, leading to high loss rate at the growers.
Delays in deliveries happen in very rare occasions, we're sorry your order got delayed.
We hope we'll be able to better serve you in the future.

Deceptive shipping practices
Ordered a bamboo barrier at 3 on Friday that I urgently needed. Receive an email from you on Monday saying it won't even be processed/shipping until Tuesday, pointing me to your ts and cs.
Yet if I got on your website now, it says I can order the product again and it will be shipped TODAY, yet if I click your little links to your shipping ts and cs there's a load of waffle about first come first serve and strings attached
So if there's strings attached, do not falsely advertise that you can ship something today when you cannot do anything close to that, provide an estimate and be honest.
