BUYER BEWARE OF BBT/TRUIST
I want to give a brief summary of my experience with BBT/ Truist after 30 years with the bank. I started with Bank Atlantic and eventually through the merges it became Truist.
There was an event where people called the bank and were trying to change my personal account info. There was also an attempt to withdraw money from my personal account. I was contacted by a bank manager about what was happening. When I asked to have my accounts put on freeze and open new accounts I was told I was compromised from inside the bank and I needed to leave BBT/Truist. A new account would not help me since it came from within.
I went back to see the manager after speaking with BBT security on the phone and the manager then claimed she never said any of the things she said in our 15 minute conversation 2 days before. I told her I wanted an investigation. Quite some time later I asked to speak with the person charge of my complaint because nothing was being done. I finally received a phone call from the investigator. From the very beginning she lied. She claimed she knew nothing about my claim but then she revealed she knew everything when it was convenient later in the same conversation. At that point I realized she was not investigating my claim to help me. She called to turn everything around and was condescending at the same time. Once I thought about the conversation I called her back to ask what the point was in calling me and asked her why she lied to me. After a lot of dancing I got nothing except more nonsense. They had no intention of helping me. This little show was to appease me and for me to quietly go away.
Thirty years and 6 figures in the bank means nothing. If you are in this bank, leave. If you are thinking of using this bank, DO NOT, BUYER BEWARE.
I did file a complaint with the cffp which is the oversight government agency for the banking industry.
The corporate office responded with "NO COMMENT"!!!
Got it, NO COMMENT, they DO NOT care about you or anything their employees are doing in regards to our information. There is a lot more but that is enough for now.
Bad Lender
Customer service is rude and our lender, Tenia lied constantly. We were promised appraisal refund but we never received it, the "boss" was always "working on it." The lender Tenia, tried to use an appraisal refund as leverage. So we went with a different lender that gave us a better rate anyways.
FAKE 5 star reviews posted here…
All those 5 star reviews posted here are similar in response structure; I highly suspect they are fake! Do not trust this bank! It is not the same bank you may think it is from when you first opened your account. This bank is functioning like a money laundering dry cleaning scheme. Certain things do not make sense! It is easy to do this and that yet when it comes to actual banking they limit you on what you can and cant daily with the potential of blocking you for any reason keeping your money and good name hostage!!! It no longer functions as a BANk! RUN! YOU HAVE BEEN WARN!!!
Truist / Suntrust - Not a good bank for small businesses
Truist / Suntrust is definitely not a bank for small businesses. I have been a customer for over 15 years and had a small business line of credit with them. I paid diligently and on time, every month over the years. But when Covid-19 hit and I lost all of my customers, I had no revenue and I turned to Suntrust and asked if I could have a deferment because of the impact of by business due to the pandemic. They flat out said no, but offered to put me on a term plan for me to pay out my loan. That was the only option they provided. Now unable to pay the interest on the line of credit, they quickly turned me over their legal collections and within a few months, I was served papers for breaching my loan contract. No one from Suntrust/Truist attempted to contact me to try and work out a payment plan. No, they went straight to a lawsuit. Now I am faced with hiring a lawyer to go to court to explain that with no revenue and no income, how can I begin to repay the loan under the terms they provided. I tried to negotiate with them, but they refused to deal with me. Now I am being sued by a Big Bank during the middle of the pandemic and during this economy where so many businesses are struggling and fighting to stay alive. Now I am forced to take money from my 401K to pay for a lawyer, so that they won't put a judgement on my house. It is also unfortunate that the same Suntrust, back in 2008 during the bank bailout, they took money from the government to save themselves and while many banks paid the money back, Suntrust never paid back the $3.5 Billion that they took. See the CNN Money report below. But now during a pandemic, when small businesses are struggling, they quickly forget that they were bailed out and never repaid the money. Not a bank that I would recommend anyone doing business with.
Shame on you Suntrust/Truist or whatever name you want to go by.
Worst bank ever
Worst bank ever. They will charge you $36 overdraft fee on an $8 transactions. I tried to call and get it refunded since I have been a loyal customer for several years. Although they said they can’t help. Ridiculous company. Never bank with them
Very disappointed
Very disappointed. I have direct deposit and have deposited bonus checks and money is available next day with no problems. Deposited a check on June 22 and decided to put a hold on it till July 2nd. Never and a check retuned. So now my account is going to overdraw and rent will be late. July 2 I will be changing banks
I had conversation with customer…
I had conversation with customer service supervisor Courtney regarding overdrawn fee issue. She was extremely unhelpful and not being nice at all. Even though I told her I am customer with suntrust from very long time almost more then 10 years. I told her all about my issue clearly but she was trying to tell me I am laying and that’s not acceptable. Suntrust need to do more work on their customer service.
SunTrust is the worst bank I've ever…
SunTrust is the worst bank I've ever had. The overdraft fees are outrageous and if not paid right away I believe the enjoy racking up the money. They closed y account without my knowledge. So of course my extra tax refund comes straight to that account and it was supposedly returned. Now I have to wait for it to be returned then mailed to hopefully the right address on file 🤦🏾♀️ what a nightmare, a little heads up would e been really nice. Inconvenient ain't even the word smh
Several weeks ago I placed a stop…
Several weeks ago I placed a stop payment through a Sun Trust Vice President for a $2099.00 payment for COBRA insurance after my job was eliminated. The stop payment was done the very same day within a hour of talking to the insurance company for incorrectly quoting me for 3 1/2 months of coverage
I have been a customer of SunTrust going back some 40 years and several mergers and what transpired was the straw that broke the camels back
The Branch Vice President assured me that the stop payment would prevent the insurance company from withdrawing the monies. After checking my account several times I noticed that the check still showed that it was withdrawn from my account. After calling the bank several times I finally got to talk with a person who informed me that the money was actually withdrawn from my account even with a stop payment order placed on the check
I contacted the Branch Vice President who finally admitted the money was withdrawn, I discussed the reasoning for the screw up and said that having just list my job I truly could not afford to have $2099. taken from my account
I had to write 2 long winded briefs on why the bank should reimburse us for their screw up a paying a check that never should have been paid
Bank denied both rebuttals and refuses to reimburse me, SO HAVING NO RECOURSE I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO CONTINUE BANKING WITH AN ENTITY WHICH HAS NO ACCOUNTABILITY FIR THEIR MISTAKE AND HAS SUCH A DEMEANING ATTITUDE TOWARD A CUSTOMER THAT HAS BEEN WITH THEM FOR 40 YEARS
IVE CANCELED ALL MY BANKING AND CREDIT DEALINGS WITH THEM!
I would not now or in the future ever recommend them to anyone that asked me my thoughts on such a despicable low life non-customer focused bank
SUN TRUST SUCKSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son went into the bank and handed them a check for $5000. They took the check and he assumed they opened an account. They took his money and closed the account a week later without even telling him. Then they mailed the money to him and the post office did not deliver it, and returned it to sun trust. He called the bank and they corrected the address and it was returned again. They will not overnight anything or express mail anything, just snail mail. It has been send back to them three time and they keep saying all they will do is mail it out from the post office. Well three months later he has been evicted from his apartment and he still has not received the check. Sun Trust is the worst place you could ever put your money. Bad Bad Very Bad customer service and we have opened a complaint with the BBB as well....Trust me Sun Trust sucks!!!!!!!!!! They don't care about the customers AT ALL!!!!! They act like scammers on the phone and will just hang-up the phone in your face.
Absolutely awful!!
Absolutely awful!!! On 4/30 they contacted me to report possible fraud. They told me their were 2 transactions. They pulled all my money from one account and charged me an OD protection. Then they declined the fraud and told me that the OD protection had nothing to do with it. It told me 4 more days to get them to return my OD charges, My OD protection charges. Was cut off/dropped twice. I'm getting out of this bank forever!

I had the best experience at the SunTrust Haines City Branch today!
My husband and I were assisted with our banking needs by Megan Shellenberger who is an absolute gem. Thank you Megan 😊
Opened a business account with SunTrust…
Opened a business account with SunTrust last month. First after I filled out the application I tried to check the status. I ended up calling because my login info wasn't working. I'm told by an agent that they had no idea why it wouldn't work. I get a email later saying my application was approved. Over the next few days I get emails saying to expect my starter checks. I takes nearly 2 weeks. Waiting for them is holding up my business. I apply for a merchant account with the SunTrust acct after the checks arrive. The merchant tells me I'm using an invalid bank account. I call SunTrust an am finally told that my account was closed due to fraud. Fraud?! I just opened the account and deposited money from my personal acct! With that being said SunTrust is the worst and I hope everyone knows it!
What a joke and a bait and switch at…
What a joke and a bait and switch at that. It’s criminal. Suntrust ( if you are not aware it is part of Truist, advertised a promo which ended on March 31st, 2021. Do a direct deposit if at least 500.00 in checking and deposit at least 10,000 in a Savings account and eventually after meeting those qualifications you will receive a 400.00 bonus. Well they rejected me after 3 days of opening up the account and receiving a welcome email from them. They rejected my 10,000 bank transfer from American Express and restricted my access to my online account and accused me of fraud. I have a FICO score of 844 and have very significant financial resources. Never had a mark on my credit rating ever and I am 68 years old. I panicked thinking someone had gotten a hold of my SS etc. so I called. I was sent to the fraud department and they told me my account is restricted and they are investigating it and will send me a letter. Not good enough so I went to the local Suntrust Bank in Waxhaw, NC and demanded an answer of WHY they refused my account. The banker was on the phone for over an hour only to tell me I will receive a generic letter in the mail. My account is closed. They don’t have the balls to tell me the trust because they know they would be subject to a law suit. Bait and switch when the think all your interested in is their bonus. Well don’t advertise it if you are not going to fulfill your obligation. It is false advertising.

They are not paying when needed!
My late aunt has left significant amount to my mother & put it in a Trust managed by Suntrust over 30 years ago. The goal was to assist my mother when she needed money. During the years my mother hardly had any withdrawals since there was very little need. Now my mom had to move to a nursery home & we asked annual withdrawals of 4% of the trust. These people just ignore us for nearly a month! We keep asking for a reply & there's complete silence. I feel like a bagger; as if they are doing us a favor. This is the worse service one can expect!
Nightmare from start to finish. STAY AWAY
Absolutely traumatic experience acquiring the student loan from them in the first place, even thought at 18 I'd be dropping out of school because they couldn't get their act together in time. Fast forward 6 years and they still offer no additional services or refinancing options. Stay away if you can and if you already have a loan with them look to refinance elsewhere. Garbage company, garbage customer service, 0/10.
