Credit Card transaction denied and account then blocked without any notification
Before I post my review its pretty obvious how poorly they perform with a trustpilot one star score of 80% - which speaks for itself really. Over the years whenever I have contacted them I have been struck how poor their customer service approach has been - at the end of the day we are paying their wages but they seem to have lost sight of that fact. My latest contact involved a denied transaction when I was trying to pay a mobile technician from 'Chips Away' for work carried out. I was using my card via Apple pay to avoid entering my PIN. I then tried with my card and a PIN number with the same result - denied! Fortunately I have a number of other cards so was able to pay with one of these. Because the transaction was denied I expected them to contact me via an app message, text, e-mail or a phone call- but they didn't. So I called them and had to go through many levels of security - to get to someone who couldn't answer any of my questions other than to try and put me through to someone with a higher level of security - who wasn't 'available'. All I managed to do was arrange a call back from this 'higher level of security' at some time later that day. Eventually about 4 hours after my transaction had been denied - I received the call and was interogated more like a criminal than a customer being asked in an unfriendly manner many security questions about my card, my account and transactions on that account (which I had to go on-line to discover). Eventually they were satisfied I was the customer and not a villian - there was no apology and justified their actions on the basis that because I had used apple pay that someone could have my phone so they wouldn't contact me. It was only when I was speaking that I discovered the card was previously blocked and according to them I would only discover this by trying to use it!! Overall it seems they have a very poor attitude towards their customers and its more important that they stop fraudulent transactions so they don't suffer any losses - never mind the implications for the customer. So I deleted that card out of apple pay (which I use rarely anyway) and stopped using that card. Perhaps the CEO of Tesco needs to take a look at the customer service provided by his credit card operation - if I were in their position I would certainly take some action because eventually this will come to bite them.
TESCO Thank You letter DESTROYS my Credit Rating
TESCO Thank You letter DESTROYS my Credit Rating. Had a thank you letter from Tesco Bank for clearing the balance of my Tesco Credit Card. I was shocked to read on that my Reward for being a good customer and keeping my account in good order was that they are reducing my credit limit by £1320 to £1980 after making all my payments on time over many years and never going over my credit limit. Thank you very much Tesco "NOT". So next month this action taken by Tesco Bank will DESTROY my credit rating as my credit score is calculated of the amount of available credit limits used by me. Reducing it by £1320 will make it look like I have a higher percentage utilization and am a greater risk to lenders which is not the case. This is a big kick-in-the-teeth from Tesco Credit Card for keeping my account in good order. I would NEVER recommend that anyone should use this credit card company as loyalty does not pay with them!!!
My fault to have Tesco credit card
I had Tesco card for few years until I went to financial difficulties.I am on DMP, however I still paid minimum to avoid further defaults. It was working for 1 year this way. After they locked me out from my online account first, and sent me letter wth sum of arrears is £0.0 I did not paid anything extra, I assumed £0.0 means £0.0.AS I was not able to log in I was thinking all is fine. After a month passed I saw my credit report with default on it.I rung Customer service to understood what and why happened, no help much.I complained, I got letter back that they accepted their mistake ( their £0.0 should be £20) and offered me 30 £ credit for my defaulted account ( sum of arrears were £20).I just wanted to pay arrears on account as their mistake shown wrong sum, no chance even they accept their fault
Do they think that £10 extra is worth of compesation that they caused to me?
I will pay off the debts and never again with Tesco.
People please do not use this bank!!!!!!!
Room for improvement
I've had my Tesco Mastercard for years and never had a problem. Today I lost it, phoned as soon as I realised and had a temporary stop put on, when I failed to find it I called again and waited 15 minutes to speak to a c/s rep who was very pleasant, however this a number for lost or stolen cards, it shouldn't take that long to answer. I don't use apps for anything financial so it's no use telling me I can use the app, that's why I'm ringing.
App is too unreliable
I barely use it any more it is so unreliable. Today, the app failed to authorise, then locked me out, then I was stuck with the retailer (ironically, tesco) telling me to authorise in the app, but the app not offering an authorisation. I had to close, reopen, call tesco bank, close, reopen and then it appeared. A staff member previously told me it’s my fault for having an iPhone - surely a huge number of other customers do too?! Only using it for tesco now and might stop that too.
Snobbish Erratic Customer Service
I got the credit card, havent had any problems using it. I get it paid off within a month or two of using it. My problem is with their weird, erratic policy and their snarky and aggressively snobbish customer service. Twice now in the course of a year I have received a letter saying that they want to raise my credit limit. Didn't ask for it, but OK. Then within a month of receiving that letter I get another letter basically saying that they've changed their mind, they are not going to raise it because of my credit report. Now I have pretty good credit, I keep all of my cards paid off, my debt ratio is around 3% of my total credit limit. Never been late, no defaults, no bad loans nothing. I'm in the 'very good' section of all three credit rating companies. So I wonder what's changed, it concerns me. I looked on my credit report, the only difference between one month ( we want to raise your credit limit) and the next ( no we don't because of your credit report ) is that my credit rating went up by 64 points, and my total debt has gone down from 5% to 2%. I contact Tesco Bank, tell them that I don't need a credit increase but would like to know what they're seeing on my report, so I can address any issue that may be happening. Instead of just telling me, I get a snarky letter from some customer service person telling me that their decision is final. Ok, so I write back saying that I accept their decision, but that I cant see anything negative on my credit report, could they please tell me what is going on so that I can address any situation. New letter from the customer service person's boss, vaguely threatening, their decision is final, if I want more credit, I should try looking elsewhere. Don't contact them again about this. Oh, well ok Tesco Bank. So the card is paid off, and I just don't use it again, I have other cards from nicer people. Then three months later, they go ahead and raise my credit limit. Go figure. Forward 6 months, it starts again, new letter wanting to raise my credit limit, followed by a letter saying that they changed their mind.
WTH Tesco Bank, Who is making decisions there? and how much are they drinking? If you want to raise my credit limit, by all means go ahead, or don't. I won't use a card when I obviously cant trust the people managing it to make consistent, sensible decisions. My balance is still zero, and that's where it will stay. BTW. American Express, Chase, and Capital One are all great cards with consistent, kind, and good customer service. They get my business, and Tesco Bank doesn't.
Do not open a "joint" credit card…
My husband and I had a "joint" Tesco credit card. He died a week ago. The only way to contact their bereavement team is by phone or Royal mail. Our Royal Mail service is abysmal at the moment so I tried to phone. I could not get through to them but the person who told me they were too busy to take my call cancelled both credit cards without telling me. I only realised when mine was later declined, leaving me without a major means of paying for everything that needs to be paid for at a really difficult time. Appalling. No compassion.
Don’t bother .
Don’t bother .
My ClearScore tells me preapproved
I only asked for £500 they told me they would offer me £1800 yet 3 days later I had to call them and they declined it .
Very very poor .
Why offer me £1800 more then I wanted then to decline it
Extremely poor
Not good customer service on credit card
Tesco always has good customer service but the credit card is very disappointing. I haven't been able to set up account online. Every time trying, got notification that request been received and someone will contact me to assist. Never heard anything. Called once she said she will solve it. Then nothing. Now i have to remember pay back by phone and not easy to check transactions. Avoid.
Dreadful app
Dreadful app. Been a customer for many years but over the past two years the app keeps treating me as a new user or says a new device is being used (it’s not) and I have to set up my details all over again! I’ve told them repeatedly but they haven’t done a thing. Avoid.
Complete Failure
Phoned this company to find out why a payment wasn't being made..... not only did they not help!
They locked me out of my account!
Not only can I now not get into my account, I can't make a payment either!!
Hate to see what they call good customer service.
NOTHING BUT HASSLE
From the time I took out this card, it was nothing but hassle. Too protracted a tale to go into detail but I've now paid it off and want to close it down but have noted other posters saying that you have to complete a form and email it to them in order to close it down!
Beware that they charge daily interest whether you pay/intend to pay the balance in full or not....it may be in their T & C's but is sure different from most other card providers. When is a credit card NOT a credit card (in the usual sense that is)? WHEN IT'S A TESCO CARD.
Awful system, worse service
Applied for and received a tesco credit card promptly - then the troubles start.
Painful website that keeps throwing errors, awful security system that's really hard to navigate.
After what seemed like hours of pain managed to install banking app on my phone and activate card. Tried to use it twice - declined for no reason.
Tried repeatedly to call Tesco - impossible to get an answer.
Pathetic.
Tesco crooks
Paid they outstanding balance on the card and wanted to close they account, no chance three times I have cleared the account and the next time you look at the account another bit of interest has appeared on it. Every other card I have had with other banks, when I paid them up all I had to do to close them down is tell them over the phone and they would close them down, no with Tesco you have to print a form off fill it in and email it back to them which I have done. I then got a response sorry we can’t close your account you have to fill in another form and email it back to them but have not told me what the problem was the first time all the while adding another bit of interest no doubt. How hard can it be to shut an account down there robbing crooks. Can’t say what I really want to call them otherwise this will not get printed
Awful!
Awful!! I called them to set up a direct debit to pay monthly I thought it was all set then the payment wasn’t taken out on the the day it was meant to , I made a complaint, to then find they had put a late payment charge on my account I called them again & they said to pay it manually till this was sorted out then I was locked out my account so I couldn’t even get on there to pay I’ve never experienced anything like it a complete stress !!!
Don't Bother with Tesco
Rung customer services, took 3 attempts of over 25 minutes for someone to answer, when finally did get through the customer service person just didn't listen to what was being said, despite an early repayment being made they still charged a full months interest. Felt like they were just reading off a script. Paid off credit card and gone elsewhere, will never use Tesco bank for any services in future
Thank you Tesco so didn't sent me a…
Thank you Tesco so didn't sent me a credit card with a fuccckkking £250 limit. when you asked me to certify solicitors all documents , the cost of which may be more than your limit. I thought you were crazy and wanted to write a review. and when I saw what people write about you, I tell you: go to hell! I definitely do not need anything from you - dirty swindlers!
I pay my card every month in full and…
I pay my card every month in full and have been charged interest last two months. This month is a joke as I had a large refund for an item it is just sat on my credit card account as a credit and they still charged me interest !
I had had a Tesco credit card for a…while but wish I had never bothered! They have wrecked my credit file - they don’t answer complaints and demean customers on calls totally Shocking!!!
I had had a Tesco credit card for a while- when Covid hit and before I tried to explain I could not pay the minimum payments could they help?
I had extremely rude advisors who warned me of a fee If I didn’t pay- I lost a job just before Covid hit- several phone calls and ending up in tears one day due to being spoken down to- not one nice person helped or listened.
I look on my credit file after sorting out a low plan it’s now in default on my file
I warn everyone not to use this credit- they lie- say everything is the customers fault and slap your card into default without the proper consultation with myself
Your the worst ever Tesco Bank!!!!
The worst customer service advisers ever.
I have been with Tesco's credit card for over 15 years. And Truth be said, they have been relatively good.
I'm assuming that is because I've never had to deal with their customer services. They have the worst customer service advisors I have ever come across. After being scammed on Facebook, Tesco's credit card customer services. It was clear that I was completely stressed out about being scammed Unfortunately, the lady who was dealing with my case was not in. was not interested, did not care and eventually just hung up on me.
It is stressful enough to be scammed The last thing I needed as a customer was to be abused by the customer service advisor.
Instead of supporting me, I'm providing me with information which is relevant. She decides to hang up on me because I was. because I was unsatisfied with waiting 30 days before I. can make a claim and on top of everything I had my credit card cancelled. I had to wait an additional 5 working days. before receiving a new one.
Please note I was neither aggressive towards her, nor was I rude to her. This is why I have become extremely frustrated. She had absolutely no reason to hang up on me.
