"My fantastic experience in Moorfields “
"I had a fantastic experience during my recent appointment. The entire staff was wonderful and took great care of me.
A special shout-out to the amazing Pam, who conducted my 3-hour Electrophysiology exam. She is an incredible person and an outstanding professional. I couldn't have asked for better care!"

Sadly very very disappointing, wish I d never gone
Sadly very very disappointing. Was expecting so much from this hospital. Adnexal appointment a complete waste of time. They just don't realise or care how this kind of injury can affect you mentally or physically. Will never be able to leave my house without Hugh sunglasses again because of how deformed I look but they just weren't sympathetic. The exam was thorough and professional but I felt patronised and judged. They said there was something that could be done but they wanted me to remain under the care of a local doctor who was lovely but didn't understand the sheer fear of being seen like this either. They couldn't wait to discharge me and prescribed drops which you had to wait an hour to collect. Gave up waiting as had a three hour trip home. Was told to go private by GP and did, fall injury, made the problem 10 times worse. Sewn up outer eyes, drooping lids, lids turning outwards. Spend around £10000 in the end to look deformed. So after following nhs advice I now look 10 tomes worse and will live my life isolated and alone forever. The nhs just doesn't care about some people when they ll go to the ends of the earth for others. I'm the unlucky one. If I hadn't taken the well meaning advice of my GP maybe I wouldn't be up all night rubbing my eyes, desperate for sleep and so embarrassed I stand at my front door trembling when someone knocks the door. I am socially impaired and autistic, with this I feel like my life is completely over, not that I had much of one anyway but at least I could look in the mirror. Not any more.
Follow up appointment issues
There is always a problem getting a follow up appointment, even if the hospital request an appointment for a specified time period. My 88 years old mother is due to have a follow up appointment in 6 weeks time. Today when I contacted the hospital I was told the appointment could be in another 7 months time or longer.
Simple Cataract surgery EYE DAMAGE
Truly abysmal service from what is supposed to be the best eye hospital in the world. I have serious concerns over my single sight monofocal cataract surgery outcome. 3 separate serious injuries were caused entirely by poor surgery. It has taken weeks to diagnose and now my sight is WORSE than before the surgery and deteriorating. Do not put your trust in what apparently is a simple surgery carried out by proficient surgeons in this hospital as clearly the junior surgeons are not sufficiently experienced to carry out even simple cataract surgery. Contact me for the name of the surgeon to avoid at all costs.
Concerns About Informed Consent and Patient Rights at Moorfields Old Street
I am writing this review to highlight concerns about patient rights and informed consent during my treatment at Moorfields Hospital (Old Street).
One of the most important principles in healthcare is that patients should be able to make informed decisions about their treatment. In my case, I did not feel that I was given sufficient balanced information or adequate time to consider alternatives before being advised to undergo eye surgery. I was told that without the procedure I could risk losing my sight, which created significant fear and urgency. While I understand that doctors must explain risks, I personally felt under pressure rather than supported in making a calm, fully informed choice.
After the procedure, I experienced ongoing symptoms and had questions about the nature of the incision and the necessity of certain post-operative treatments, including eye drops and laser-based interventions. I would have appreciated clearer explanations regarding the purpose, risks, and expected outcomes of these treatments.
I was also approached on several occasions about participating in experience or research-related activities. While teaching and research are valuable in medical settings, consent for such involvement should feel entirely voluntary and free from pressure. In my situation, I did not always feel fully comfortable.
My intention in sharing this is not to discourage treatment, but to stress the importance of:
Clear and balanced explanations of risks, benefits, and alternatives
Sufficient time to consider surgery without feeling rushed
Transparent communication about post-operative treatments
Fully voluntary and informed consent for research involvement
Patients should feel respected, heard, and empowered throughout their care. I hope this feedback encourages stronger communication practices and reinforces the importance of informed consent at every stage of treatment.

I recently had a cataracts op and a new lens put in my right eye in December and the care and treatment were outstanding.
I have been a patient at Moorfields for 25 years with glaucoma and have never had any negative experiences with anything to do with this hospital.
It is widely recognised as one of the best eye hospitals in the world and I personally feel that the care and treatment that I have received completely back this hospitals reputation up.
Treatment good Phone contact abysmal
Treatment and tests at Stratford and City excellent. A voice mail call today to cancel my next appointment in 3 days with promise
of appointment tomorrow but no times given. Call back promised within the hour but nothing forthcoming. It is impossible to reach them by phone, they never have an "agent" available. I also sent a text but no reply yet.

Cateract Surgery.
I have recently had cataract surgery at moorfields elder unit in St Georges Tooting.
It has been hugely successful for me and I am extremly greatful. It is a very busy unit and I felt I was dealt with fairness and politness along the journey to the day of the surgery.
I would like to thank those whose care I was under consultant Mr S Bhermi ,Dr. P.Withrington,Nurse Lilly, and all the team there who helped along the way.
Thank You

Fantastic Customer. Service - Monohor (Optometry)
I just hd to write to thank Monohor in Optometry for taking my call.
I lost my contact lenses last week (both of them) and having to use 2 yr old lenses with my cataracts and glaucoma.
He was very thorough in his questioning before reordering for me.
Extremely impressed!
Excellent hospital with exceptional…
Excellent hospital with exceptional staff, both specialists and administrators. I have attended clinic 4 for many years.
It is let down, however, by the Booking service - outsourced, perhaps - where I have endured since Dec 2023, Mary George Eliku under Brenda Howard supervision, countless deferred appointments; cancellation; referral to wrong departments. This situation is ongoing.
Maria Wendall, Pals, has proved useless when approached which begs the question, who are these people acting for.
My son has been attending here for 8…
My son has been attending here for 8 years but they have never ever noticed my son is colour blind, he has failed all peripheral vision tests for years and still doesn’t have a diagnosis he is partially sighted in one eye and when I visited last I asked what’s next? She said nothing….. just tell him to turn his head more when he crosses the road!? Welcome to the nhs!
On going treatment at Moorfields city road
I am having treatment at Moorfields city road for some years now.
April 2024 had a corner Graf the surgery was excellent on my right eye but took tell March 2025 for all the stitches to come out.
Then they said I will need cataract surgery now but I June they now say my eye pressure is too high and put me on drops and tablets and for 2 weeks the pressure went down from 32 to 21.
This is my problem that was just 2 weeks put now they say it’s still to high so on 25 July 2025 I am having Insertion of aqueous shunt and Scleral graft surgery.
I think this is unnecessary surgery I have look online and there are a lot of side effects and on going complications but they won’t do the cataract first I have 1 in 60 sight in both eyes and if I had the cataract done I will have my sight back then if the pressure goes up then do the other surgery I am trying to save the NHS some money but they won’t give me the choice not happy about this.
Would recommend Moorfields at Ealing Hospital
Moorfields at Ealing Hospital is a busy but efficient clinic and staffed by specialists.
I accompanied a relative there in June. He was seen by Dr Ameeta Kumar who was exceptionally professional, thorough and clear and concise in her explanation of the problem and possible treatments. She has outstanding interpersonal skills.
I would recommend both the service and the clinicians.
Excellent Hospital
Excellent service. The initial appointment making process after GP referral was painful and protracted but once at the clinic the service was faultless and now on annual recall so no need to request appointment via GP.
I was attending Moorfields City Road…
I was attending Moorfields City Road for a course of eye injections as treatment for a macular occlusion. Overall I received 4 injections, the first one being perfect but, unfortunately, the pain and distress levels increased dramatically over the following 3. This reached a point during injection 4 where it seemed more like I was in a medieval torture chamber rather than a supposedly modern hospital. The pain and distress caused me to decide immediately that I will no longer seek treatment at Moorfields. I will obtain a referral to another hospital and discuss options there.
Moorfields is a dreadful place and my strong advice is not to go there.
Cataract surgery…
I have been attending Moorfields eye clinic at Bedford hospital for a few years now. I suffer from really high pressure and was given 3 options to alleviate this. I was led by my consultant who suggested Cataract surgery on both eyes at the same time. Although the Cataracts were not really bad he said they would need doing at some point. I cannot stress enough how brilliant the whole team were all the way through, just amazing! From start to finish it was only 5 weeks and this was NHS not private. Highly satisfied and would definitely recommend.
Great staff in St.George's, poor management of appointments by centrally run customer service
I have been under glaucoma care for years. Appointments sometimes run over but the system of getting a huge number of people through lots of different tests is well oiled and all the staff are lovely.
Recently needing a first appointment for my husband, we were given a date 3 months into the future, which was when we had holiday plans. So i wrote requesting a change of date and specifying when we were NOT available. Despite that, the revised date we were given was the date we are leaving on holiday :-(. I phoned immediately to request a change to earlier in the day. After 2 weeks no news, so called again. The person who answered confirmed there was a note on file requesting the appointment be brought forward, but no sign of action. They said they would send a chaser. I waited another 3 weeks before calling again. The person who answered confirmed again the request had been made but also said there was nothing her operation could do about it, and eventually put me rhrough to the glaucoma department at St George's. There the employee Phoebe was great: polite, helpful, sorted the issue in minutes with an appointment one week before we leave. I am sure the medical side will be excellent as ever, great to have found a polite and efficient employee at the glaucoma outpatient end, but the appointment scheduling could certainly do with improvement.
