I'll be honest: my original review here was scathing. Boss Macs had my MacBook for around three months with no payment and very little communication, and I was convinced I'd been scammed. I'd started legal proceedings.

It turns out the owner had been dealing with some things, and the business had suffered as a result. That doesn't undo the months of silence — and I'd still say the lack of communication was the real failure here, not the delay itself.

But once I got hold of him, he dealt with it properly: the full payment came through promptly, along with £100 in goodwill for the inconvenience. No haggling, no excuses.

Four stars, because they did ultimately do the right thing. If you sell to them, be prepared to chase — but on my experience they will pay.

Sadly enough, a scam. The only way to get money seems to be to take them to court. Hopefully, we can get them off eBay, etc where I presume they sell the Macs from us silly people who trust them and send our Macs to them thinking they are legit. I WOULD LOVE to think that some of the other reviews are from people who actually got paid. They've had my mac for three months or so now, and their excuses are just getting weaker

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. No payment or response for 3 months.

This company is an absolute scam. I sent my Mac worth over £1000 for trade in 2 months ago and no payment received. No responses to any emails other than an initial response after 4 weeks delay. After my initial review i eventually received the payment promised. Keep well away. Better get a lower valuation from a reputable company who will actually make a payment in prompt manner and not need to be chased for 10 weeks to give you what was promised.

I traded in my MacBook Pro 2 weeks ago. They stated 10 days for payment as it states on the website for payment. Andy going through tough time at the moment, he went his way and all sorted. Payment received. All the best 🤗🤗

Mixed experience to be honest!

Positives - easy verification. No haggling on price. They did eventually pay the original quoted price (+£20 for using my own delivery service).

Negatives - slow process. Poor communication. I had to chase multiple times to finally get my payment.

Appreciate the owner had been going through a difficult time that might of explained some of the above.

Would I use them again - probably not just because I’m quite inpatient and anxious when it comes to selling things. However if you want a competitive price and are happy to wait for payment then you should consider using this company.

Good service from Andy and the team, after a mis-communication, everything was sorted out. I would use them again.

Update (128 days later):

Unfortunately, this matter is still unresolved.

It has now been 128 days since Boss Macs received my two MacBooks, despite advertising a 10-day turnaround.

During this time I’ve received multiple apologies and repeated assurances that payment would be made “next week” or in the next payment run. I’ve confirmed my bank details several times, provided an alternative bank account, and responded promptly to every request.

Despite this, I have still not received payment or the return of my devices.

Communication has consisted of repeated promises followed by missed deadlines, with long periods where I have had to chase for updates myself.

I genuinely sympathise with the personal circumstances that have been explained to me, but after more than four months I don’t believe they justify the continued failure to either pay for my devices or return them.

As things currently stand, I have no option but to begin formal legal action to recover what I am owed.

If the matter is resolved, I will happily update this review to reflect the final outcome.

I would not recommend using this company if you expect prompt payment or clear communication.

My Macs were received over 60 days ago despite the company advertising a 10-day turnaround. Since then, I’ve experienced constant delays, repeated promises of payment that were never followed through, and long periods without updates unless I chased repeatedly.

I was given multiple timelines for completion and payment, including claims that payment had been processed, but nothing materialised.

Very frustrating experience overall and not what I would expect from a professional business.

Still no payment and just being ignored

There were some delays and miscommunications, but I was compensated for my troubles and received a decent quote for my laptop. Quote process and shipping was quick and easy.

I had a bit of fuss with sending my mac in but it was just a bit of unfortunate miscommunication and Andy really made the effort to try clear it all up and its been all sorted.

Andy was great and helpful, he was going through a tough time but still managed to help me with the sale of my MacBook Air. I would use BossMacs again.

I recently sold my MacBook Pro to Boss Mac’s and overall had a very good experience. They arranged a free collection, inspected the device promptly, and honoured the original quote price that was offered to me.

There was a slight issue with the payment being delayed, and I did have to chase it up which was a bit frustrating. However, once I got in touch, Andy resolved the situation and ensured everything was sorted. As a goodwill gesture for the delay, I was also given an extra £50, which I appreciated.

Despite the small hiccup, I can confirm this is a genuine business that does pay what they promise. I would recommend Boss Mac’s if you’re looking to sell your used Mac.

Professional and diligent assessment, quoting and collection process dealing with apple macs. Good communication and prompt settlement made it a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended.

My MacBook was sent via Royal Mail special delivery in pristine condition, and arrived on Wednesday 14th January. An email was apparently sent by the buyer on 16th, confirming receipt and that outwardly, the MacBook was as described, but would be tested fully, in due course . I didn't receive that email, but it was re sent to me last week.

Following further correspondence regarding inspection and timeframes for payment, the buyer kept me updated and I received payment this morning, together with £20 for using my own choice of courier.

Was looking to move my Macbook pro M2 on and didn't really want the hassle of a private sale with all the scammers about, and found BossMacs, offered a great price and shipping it was easy. Was very nervous posting off my laptop at first but after speaking with Andy he put my mind at rest and was fourth coming with any details I requested to give confidence, it was over the Christmas period and also Andy had personal issues to deal with but the communication continued and was paid the full amount offered at the start. All in a very smooth process and a trusted buyer, so don't hesitate if you need to move your products on for a very good price.

Bossmacs offered the highest buy price it was easy to set up a delivery pickup from the email i received and i received the money within the time frame of 7 to 10 working days of receiving the mac and with it been so close to Christmas i didn't think i was going to happen

I sold my Macbook air to boss macs, and even though Andy was going through horrendous person issues he still made time to get back to me and process my Macbook in a timely manner especially due to the circumstances.
The service was professional and I received the exact amount that was quoted for the laptop.

Absolutely shocking. Avoid at all costs.

I accepted an original trade-in valuation of £680. After they received my MacBook, they claimed it was damaged and dropped the offer to £400. Which in itself is ridiculous when even with the damage they were stating I could still get over £600 elsewhere.

They first mentioned the price had altered due to “micro scratches”, then sent a photo of a deep, curved scratch that is blatantly obvious. I disputed it because it wasn’t there when I last used the laptop and I have photos from that time. The scratch also looked clearly new and clean. They then tried to tell me it “wasn’t visible” and that “you wouldn’t notice it” trying to gas light me into believing it was there when I sent it. None of this however matches the photo they sent.

The attitude was worse than the valuation. I got a rude call from a no caller ID number, where I was told I was “insulting his experience” for questioning it, and I was then threatened with legal action if I was to leave a bad review. Completely unprofessional and meaning there was no way to trace the call.

When I held my stance and said I’d have the device back and seek advice, they then said they would personally return it instead of sending it back via a courier, which I did not accept. Back and forth they still tried to deny any damage but it’s funny how once I mentioned taking it further, the price magically moved from £400 to £650. After that, my emails were ignored for days and I had to chase multiple times. They then tried to reset the payment timeframe because a “revised quote” was accepted but this being a revised quote that only existed because of the disputed damage that appeared after they received the device.

I eventually accepted £650 just to end the stress, but the device was still left damaged through their process and there was no proper remedy for that loss. Other companies like Back Market might offer a bit less, but it’s worth taking the small hit to avoid the hassle and this unprofessional, awful company.

I recently sold several devices to Boss Macs and was very impressed with the way they handled the process. Communication was clear and professional throughout, and they kept me updated along the way.

Even during what I understand has been a very challenging period for them personally, they still made sure everything was resolved properly and with genuine care. I really appreciate their integrity and commitment to making things right.

It’s rare to come across a business that balances professionalism with such a human touch. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Boss Macs to anyone looking to sell their tech and will happily use them again in the future.
