H&R Block Avis 74

I just finished a bizarre tax prep experience with H&R Block in Douglasville GA.

My intent is NOT to bash the people involved, so I will not use names. But, BUYER BEWARE.

This is my second attempt to work with Block. In the first time, the tax preparer made an egregious error. She botched the capital gains calculation, leading to a serious flaw in my return. Luckily, I paid for their “Peace of Mind” guarantee. Long story short, Block paid me $6,000 to correct the error. No apologies, just move on.

The entire staff was gathered around the front desk … chatting! My preparer among them. She know I was sitting there, but ignored me. Finally, I stood and walked to the group. Block is VERY casual about providing service, at lest in this office,

In this go-around, I needed an extension. The preparer took minutes online to find the form. Finally, she handed me the completed form, but it had a serious error. She told me that I would not have to pay taxes due until October. WRONG! The law states that all taxes due had to be paid with the extension. They wanted to charge me $99 for this! And it was in error!!! Before I knew the extension was in error.

I went to the front desk. She was unable to process the check to pay for the extension. She tried many times to get the reader to accept the check, but it did not work. Finally, she gave up and said I’d have to pay cash … or go somewhere else.

So I returned with cash. At this point, I was angry. The person at the front desk seemed irritated to have her office chatting interrupted. I should not have gotten angry, but it was now more than an hour, two trips to the Block office and STILL no end in sight. Rather than deal with their incompetence, They called the police. How bizarre!

I then went to an online service and got the extension in less than 5 minutes. And IRS accepted it!! I cost me $0!!! Shame on me for going to Block. With my accepted extension, I can now take my time to complete my taxes, but NOT with BLOCK.

I checked reviews, something I should have done before putting myself in the incompetent hands of Block. I was shocked to find that Block has MANY negative reviews. 1,118 total complaints in the last three years!

Oh … there appears to be NO Block address to lodge a complaint!! So I will post it on BBB, a public forum. Hopefully Block wall read this and replace staff with competent people,

It took me almost two hours to get to his point with Block, something I got done in less than 5 minutes with a FREE online service.

So, a word to the wise… save time, aggravation and your money; take your tax business elsewhere. I wish I had.

OMG they are such a horrible company, completely unable to answer basic questions, I paid $115.92 for 45 mins of NO HELP, then I fixed it myself and they refused to refund my money. Should be illegal.

I live in the Philippines. I was recently married and will be filing a joint return. I specifically picked HRBlock Expat to file electronically and apply for a ITIN for my wife. After providing all required information, review and accepted the routine 1040 Tax document, and paying their $298 fee, THEN I receive a message stating I cannot File electronically and they cannot process the ITIN. NOTICE they waited until after they received their fee before telling me they could not provide the service requested. So I wasted $298 to just print out the 1040 they provided. (the same 1040 documents I complete on my own with the same results) Now I have to print their 1040, gather and print all my other documents for the ITIN application and phyiscally find a way to mail them from the Philippines myself. I have wasted both time and money because of their poor communication skill. I would have never had selected HRBlock Expat if I had known they could not provide the services I required. I rate them a zero. They do not even deserve a ONE STAR rating.

Some of the worst reading comprehension I've ever experienced.

I was a loyal H&R Block customer for years, but this year sent me through the roof. The agent responses are so nonsensical, it's like talking to ChatGPT. They don't even listen to basic information, and just send back unrelated paragraphs of information. Eventually they tried to sell me on their premium tax offering, which is $530. But it's a totally separate product, definitely some facade over Salesforce, and after entering information, I decided I didn't want to start from zero and type in everything again. An agent reached out encouraging me to complete the questionnaire. I provided some thoughtful product feedback on why I didn't want to upload and input all my tax information twice (and pay $530 for the priviledge). 24 hours later, I get a message "We hear you" and then they disregard what I said and press me to complete the questionnaire and schedule a call.

Writing that they "hear me" then disregarding everything I wrote is like salt in the wound. What a stupid, stupid way of running a business.

My son is new to the workforce, first time he needed to file taxes. I sent him to H&R block due to his simple filing. It shows online that they will tell you up front what the cost will be. He called me when it was done and told me that they charged him over $600 for a simple 1099 filing and his few hundred dollars worth of crypto... Worst part is, although they state they will tell you up front so there are no surprises, they did his taxes and at the end is where they told this young person it was over $600 for 30 minutes worth of work... We called them to explain what happened and they just blew us off. Do NOT use this tax prep service... good grief. This was the H&R block location in Southaven, MS I would rate the a zero if I could.

This year was the second time we used this particular HR agent. Nice guy; veteran, not an accountant. Our taxes are not that difficult and he used the standard deduction so there's not a whole lot of expenses to go through. In fact, it was so simple I am embarrassed because I could probably do them myself. His fee this year was $650 which was a big jump since last year (no change in the amount of work). We felt the fee was outrageous given the fact that my former accountant would only charge me $475. I let the office know we would not be coming back.

H&R Block claims to have a 4.85 Trust Pilot rating for their expat tax filing solution. I guess I should not be surprised to see that they lied about that.

I tried to file my U.S.taxes with them. I used their feature to file with a tax expert because their standard form only allows me to file as a full year expat or a full year U.S. resident. I was a part year resident of the U.S.

When I raised the question with their tax “expert,” they told me I have to report my income on my U.S. tax. I know that. That’s not the question. After going round and round a few times and not getting them to answer the question, I told them I would not be using their service and wanted a refund. Their response was to refuse to finish my tax return, end all communication, and keep my money. I will be filing a credit card dispute to get my money back. But save your money and your frustration. Don’t do business with these con artists.

Terrible company,to keep it short I e filed in Jan and thought all was good.
Well after a month of checking my status IRS still didn't receive my return.
Come to find out HR BLOCK had a hold on my tax return,yes HR BLOCK put a hold on my return WHY?,WHO KNOWS?
My thought after numerous calls to there customer service is,because I used there free software to e-file my returns they were trying to get me to upgrade to a pay version of there service so they could fix a problem they created.
Once I provided them with a lawyers information they took the hold of my taxes,YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
This company will rip you off if you don't pay attention

I have been there 8 years of using Turbo Tax. Will not use H&R block tax software again. Nothing but issues on a simple return. And unlike Turbo Tax which at the end tells you if and how much you should pay in estimated taxes.. h&r. Tells nothing they have a plan at the end but every difficult to use. When I did go to file software forced a update so I had no way to know if if filed. I had to do a second time and give a second credit card. Pure garbage in my opion. It is cheaper than Turbo Tax but the hours wasted not worth the savings.

They did my taxes,irs came after me for 456 dollars 3 years later. I paid for the insurance, I gave them all my information. Called them and got the run around numerous times. Here comes my refund and irs got their money. And I get screwed by h&r thanks to the half ass job

Lied to by tech support about import capabilities! Will not import any data from Wealth Front! And will not allow you to manually input the numbers! A waste of money! NEVER AGAIN! I checked with support before buying and was assured that it would import. Or I could save the file as a PDF and drop it into the program! WRONG! I had to use another program, Free Tax USA that worked like a charm! :)

Shady and greedy company, they’ll hold your previous years filings hostage for a payment, and try to upsell you all along the way. Find a better software asap

Just awful. H&R Block messed up my taxes and as a result I ended up owing more than $20K to the IRS. A huge mess and a huge hassle. Avoid at all costs.

A corrupted H&R Block tax preparer at Milpitas office, located at 140 N Milpitas BLVD, Milpitas, CA95035, used my information, my real name, my phone number, and social security number and she added me as a part-time employee at a company called "Intelligent Fiber optic Systems Cor" located at 4425 Fortran Drive, San Jose, California, 95134, United States. Annual revenue: $5.2 million. Their EIN is 043703938. phone number: 3464685872 . Email address: yangforeng253140(at)hotmail.com . Honest to God, I've never been at this company. I didn't even know it existed before that FORGERY. As a result of using that fraudulent piece of paper, she added over $20,000 to my 2023 income, and I'm assuming that on the other side , she saved the same amount of money or even more as employee's expenses for intelligent fiber optic systems Corporation. I also looked up the ownership of this corporation, and name came up as a young man in his mid twenties who I'm assuming is her relative. The damage that corrupted tax preparer and Intelligent Fiber Optic Systems Corporation caused me is beyond repair, and the worst is that when I called H&R Block headquarters, they deleted the fraudulent return, and they locked my account in order to protect the corrupted tax preparer or maybe in order to save their own reputation. Then H&R block gave me a case number, and they told me they were going to investigate what happened and they told me to expect a phone call within 2 business days.  I waited for over a week for H&R block phone call,  but they never called.  When I called them and gave them the case number I was given a week before,  they said there was no case connected to that number.

After 2 weeks, H&R block completely deleted my account.
Honest to God I kept begging H&R not to delete my account,  but in the end they went a head and deleted my H&R account and they deleted all my documents that I had for many years there. I guess they figured I'm from the middle class so I don't have hot shot lawyers to help me.
I was in the area a while ago, and the corrupted tax preparer is still working there.  She's probably still looking for new victims!!

IF H&R BLOCK DENIED WHAT HAPPENED,  I HAVE DOCUMENTS AND I CAN POST SCREENSHOTS OF THEM. Also... IF ANYONE WANTS TO DESPOSE OF ME , I'VE GIVEN COPIES OF THE FRAUDULENT TAX RETURN TO ALL MY FRIENDS,  JUST IN CASE!!

I have been with H and R block for a few years and I requested to have my application for age pension done.
I was very relieved at the time when the accountant said it had been lodged and they would follow up with any enquiries
I later found that the application had not been lodged and wad told I had to follow it up

Absolute rip off. I had an appointment for today and I went in for filing my taxes with them as inperson appointment. Filled up their online form and took all the documents. The lady had no clue about anything with respect to tax filing. The reason I went there was because I needed help with investments and helping me with bringing my taxable income down. She didn't even know that for last year the super additions have to be done by Jun 2024. She was suggesting to put money into super and it can be filed for my 2024. She then had to ask colleague and she did she the same. She didn't talk about having work from home scenarios. End of it, I said I ll apply on my own and guess what. They charged me 80$ for what they call as consultation and they didn't do anything. Total waste of time and they had no regard for customers. They didn't care as long as they had my money. Not going to go there again for sure.

I had used my local HR Block for years with only positive experiences, and used the expat service last year with no trouble. This year, however, has been a nightmare. I submitted my 2023 tax materials at the beginning of March, hoping to have my taxes done by the end of that month. A couple of weeks went by and I didn’t hear anything back from my “tax pro”. I kept messaging - nothing. Beginning of April - still nothing. April 12 and 13, two days away from the deadline, tracked down a phone number, called and called until I talked to a person, who must have nudged my tax pro. He finally gets back to me saying he’ll file an extension for me. I didn’t want an extension!! I was ready to get those taxes done early and now I need an extension?? But I was also in the middle of selling my parents’ house in Canada after they both died in 2023, and getting ready to move to a foreign country - why I needed the expat service in the first place - and didn’t have the time or energy to look around for another accountant. So, fine, I’ll take the extension…then I’m in suspense for the next…SIX MONTHS. Finally, the tax pro is ready to file, 10 days before the extension deadline of October 15. And there’s a huge error on the Fincen part of the return - instead of paying attention to the information I provided, or - crazy idea - contacting me at any point in the last SIX MONTHS, the tax pro just sloppily and inaccurately cut and paste some details. Correcting that error takes another few days as the extension deadline is looming.
The big selling points of HR Block are ease and convenience in what is otherwise a stupidly stressful experience, and lower cost. And after the past 7 months of anxiety and hassle, poor communication, errors that undermine my confidence in the accuracy of my return - HR Block completely failed to deliver. Instead of convenience I had nothing but stress, and whatever money I saved using them was not worth it. I’ll spend the next few months looking for a new tax accountant who can actually do a professional job.

$690 for two years of tax return HnR block Bundaberg is a rip off

The software is fine, but the customer service is disappointing. My phone call appointments are repeatedly rescheduled by H&R Block without consultation regarding my availability. At the time of the newly scheduled appointment, nobody calls me, particularly frustrating when I have a time-sensitive tax issue and H&R Block makes amending previous tax returns impossible through their platform. I will continue to use TurboTax moving forward.

If I could give less stars I would. The filing of my taxes went ok but cost over 350 for less than 5 min of mouse clicking. But it's their Spruce card that they recommend that your return go on so u can get it sooner. It has been the worst experience I've ever had. 1st I get my 1st spruce card & wait till my return in in the account. I try to use the account & from the very 1st use my account gets flagged. Which means I have to wait 3 to 5 business days to receive a new card. They said it was from suspicious activity. I asked what activity besides my initial try & fail there were no other transactions. They couldn't explain why it was flagged. Then I received my new card & set it up, with the promise of it working. Wrong again I go to use it & it gets declined again. Mind you there is over $5800 in the account. Again they tell me that they can't figure out why it's being declined. They tell me I have to wait another 3 to 5 business days for them to call me back. Meanwhile I have bills that need paid & things I counted on that money to pay for such as my child's birthday. Needless to say if anyone else reads this DO NOT USE THE SPRUCE BANKING CARD.
