The ticket sales desk at OR Tambo. We waited over an hour just to buy tickets. Today I'm experiencing the bad side of safari. I even canceled my travel altogether

SAFair getting you on time?????
SAFair getting you on time. Why is this airline riddeled with delayed flights, no explaination from small. The attitude being dont ask me Im not a pilot. I missed and important event.my sons concert. The airline carrier for the springboks requires alot more than parterning with world champions when their services are "delayed" and with no explaination at all. Im still livid and sent my feedback
What a horrible experience!
SafAir lost all loyalty I might once have felt for them. Our 3:10pm flight was delayed until 8:30pm. Then again to 9:15pm. The staff were not helpful at all and gave no explanation. I then received a SMS saying it was due to the late arrival of an incoming flight. Was it coming from Europe somewhere? I missed an important event due to this unacceptable delay. I asked to be rebooked explanation my circumstances. The person I dealt with was as helpful as a hole in the head. I wouldn't be flying SafAir again. If I could give zero stars, I would!
Probably the worst airline experience…
Probably the worst airline experience I’ve had. My flight FA265 from Durban to Johannesburg was scheduled to depart at 13:25. At 13:30, we were informed that there was no plane available to take us. Hours later, at 15:15, we were told the flight would now only depart at 18:45.
During this entire time, I watched several other FlySafair flights depart for Johannesburg without any issue. No real solution was offered, other than a R100 food voucher — a completely inadequate gesture for such a massive delay.
What makes this even more frustrating is that flights scheduled long after mine continued to depart, while I was left waiting for nearly six extra hours. It’s hard to understand how a supposedly “delayed” flight ends up departing long after others to the same destination.
Very disappointed. According to FlySafair, my time is apparently only worth R100.
I dont normally submit reviews but this…
I dont normally submit reviews but this level of customer 'care' deserves mention. Having the airline cancel my flight at the last moment due to their pilot strike, I contacted the airline and after an hour with a helpful agent was promised a full refund of our fares. Three months on, this hasn't been actioned and fortunately my credit card company read my unanswered further emails to the company and has reversed the charge. Be aware that they are alleged to be in breach of the Air Services Licensing Act - trouble could follow. If you enjoy being treated like a 7 year old when deplaning (they allow 5 rows at a time to stand up - which is beyond what an behavioural psychologist can explain is beneficial for crowd control), then you will 'enjoy' this kind of experience. We switched to Cemair which although has less flights, offered a really good service.
Extremely damaged suitcase - unhelpful staff!
If one could give zero stars i would! My suitcase was extremely damaged on a flight from Johannesburg to Cape town. Which i stopped over for a few days on my way home back from Korea. Which is unfortunate as i just purchased it for my flight back home, i had the suitcase for less than a week 🙃 it traveled half way around the world literally and was PERFECT. yet a 2 hour flight back home and the suitcase is unusable! I went to the desk at the airport and no one was there, after waiting someone finally came and gave me a number which was wrong I them emailed and got told there was nothing they could do! The staff where extremely rude and unhelpful. They don't handle the luggage as its a 7th party so matters are out of their hands. The suitcase was cracked, scratched and a wheel has been torn off with exposed screws. I can honestly say I will not be flying with them again.
Not professional at all plus …
Not professional at all plus discrimination it's on higher level especially if you dark African the same people who look like you are the discriminating ones it's terrible experience
Very very bad
Worst staff. Pathetically bad ground staff and non existing customer service.
Do not fly with this company.
Passenger Risk
Passenger Risk
Main concern on the strike, is that the passenger’s have been exposed to risk with the pilots being unfairly treated, The pilot’s lifestyle has been compromised as per their abnormal working hours and salary negotiations. Our lives have been at risk, whilst some focus was on external customer service, the internal customers were poorly treated. Bottom line is that passengers lives were at risk and Safair has been negligent in this respect. I was affected as both my flights were cancelled for the 26 July and 1 August, a day before, with no option to any changes. Alternate arrangements were made with other airlines at exorbitant prices with a voucher hanging in the balance with Safair.
Worst customer experience got pulled to…
Worst customer experience got pulled to the side and not allowed to board, rude service and no help. Very disrespectful customer services. Everyone working on FA 176 should get fined. Will never use them again. And nothing will come from this
Bag damaged and items stolen.
My bag was damaged and items stolen when flying with this airline. I reported it and opened a police case and followed all instruction. FlySafair then said they would only cover R1000 of items damaged and stolen of almost R10000. This was not the first time but the first time I followed procedure and I still feel robbed and frustrated. Watch your bags people
Most uncomfortable flight to Zanzibar
Staff are great, but most uncomfortable seats in the world. I don’t recommend SAFAIR to fly to Zanzibar. Seats are small and you feel squashed, it’s remains very upright throughout the flight no option to upgrade. We were a party of seven all different shapes and sizes, everyone complained about how uncomfortable they were and we all had aches and pains when we left the aircraft.
Lost baggage
A truly infuriating experience with FlySafair. My suitcase literally fell off the baggage belt during loading—how does that even happen in this day and age?! It was only found in Johannesburg because I reported it missing from another country. Let that sink in.
Three days later, after all the inconvenience and anxiety, they finally sent it—but refused to deliver it to my hotel, which is just an hour from the airport. Apparently, that was too much to ask. Meanwhile, the country I was visiting went above and beyond to help me retrieve my luggage—not South Africa, not FlySafair.
What kind of service is this? Zero accountability. No one checks the loading belts, and when something goes wrong, they just pass the burden to someone else—another country, no less. This wasn’t just poor service—it was a complete failure of basic responsibility and customer care.
I’m left with a bitter taste and an incredibly sour view of the service standard I received from South African aviation. FlySafair, you have truly let me down. Shame on you.
Unethical Business Practices & Terrible Customer Service
I am raising a serious concern regarding Safair's "Unethical Business Practices".
When I booked my flight, I specifically selected and paid extra for an emergency exit row seat due to the additional legroom it offers. However, upon boarding, I discovered that I had been reassigned to a standard seat, and my originally reserved seat was given to another passenger. No explanation or communication was provided prior to this change.
When I brought this matter to the attention of the flight attendant, Mohamed, his response was dismissive, unprofessional, and entirely unhelpful. He claimed it was not his fault and made no effort whatsoever to assist or resolve the issue. The lack of accountability and service was unacceptable.
It is clear that had I not raised the issue, no attempt would have been made to notify me, offer an apology, or process a refund for the service I paid for and did not receive.
This raises serious concerns about Safair’s integrity, particularly regarding what appears to be a deliberate practice of double-booking and paid-for extras without ensuring delivery or offering appropriate redress.
I have already raised this issue directly with Safair and submitted detailed feedback outlining the situation. Despite this, Safair has made absolutely no attempt to contact me, acknowledge the complaint, or refund the additional amount I paid for a service that was not provided. This lack of accountability and customer service is deeply concerning and further reinforces the perception of unethical business conduct.
Good day
Good day.
I would like to humbly rate the service I got from Nate Smit I may be wrong about the surname but I was on Flight FA353 from Cape town to Lanseria
Nate was such a pleasant person exceptional would be an understatement thank you for your service when we speak about customer centricity we speak about the service I got from you. I was so emotional even that's how touched I felt and how much I appreciate your assistance
Poor Communication at Boarding Led to Stress and Extra Costs
Our experience with FlySafair was frustrating due to how the boarding process was handled. At the gate, a staff member shouted out the flight number instead of using a proper announcement system or digital board. With the long queues and general airport noise, many of us couldn’t hear what was being said—especially those with hearing difficulties.
Because of the lack of clear communication, we had to rush to the gate last minute. My partner couldn’t check in her luggage in time and was forced to pay extra, even though the situation could have been avoided with better organisation.
This felt unprofessional and inconsiderate. A simple screen showing boarding information or a proper PA announcement would have made the process smoother, more inclusive, and far less stressful. We hope FlySafair takes this kind of feedback seriously and makes improvements for future passengers.
How are people even allowed through check-in with luggage that does not comply with carry-on??
Flight was only 3/4 full, yet some passengers had to store their carry-on luggage at their feet, as there was no over-head space available. Lady in the next seat, was literally traveling with a full, plastic refuse bag on her lap. A gentleman asked for a form in order to lodge a written complaint, for having to store his luggage at his feet. He was given a "barf-bag" and told to write his complaint on it.
Cannot check in online without seat selection
You cannot check in online without selecting a seat first - which the website states you have to pay for. (each seat had a cost) There is no option to skip seat selection or have it randomly applied. Very sneaky!
Robbing clients by just telling you an amount to pay yet there are options to choose
They don't respond to queries relating to customer service which lead to their customers having to pay high costs unnecessarily. They just want to make money. Where there are options to choose how to pay they tell you the method with higher amount and pretend it's the only way. New boarders be careful.
Best domestic airline in South Africa
Best airline when flying domestic in South Africa. Always on time and very frequent flights.
Failed to make a payment via their app…
Failed to make a payment via their app however they made a phone call to advise way forward. I have tried booking with alternative app but the choice of airport is not available
