As an ethical landlord I was asked by this company to provide a reference for a tenant who was relocating. According to the request “ Any information you give will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”
Well no it isn’t. The tenant was told exactly what I wrote and is now mithering me to change my review. As I told her any change would be a lie.
LESSON TO BE LEARNED. If this company asks for a tenant reference they DO NOT TREAT THEM IN THE STRICTEST CONFIDENCE. I would decline to give a reference in future. Clearly very unprofessional.

We can see that you are not a client of ous and have never made use of any of our services whatsoever.
When a reference is obtained from a landlord this is taken day and date and cannot be updated or edited at a later date should you change your mind or have some future grievance with the tenant.
All refences are taken in the strictest of confidence and any information given is not shared by us with the tenant direct.
However, once our assessment report has been completed it is then provided to the new prospective letting agent or landlord direct, the data controllers who commissioned the checks via us the data processor. Whilst the new letting agent or landlord is advised not to share this information with the tenant once they receive our report, it is out of our hands once this is in their environment.
We are disappointed that you have left this misplaced, negative review, attempting to damage our business without knowing all of the facts and suggest you direct any frustrations to the new agent or landlord who commissioned these checks in the first place.
