Excellent service

I spoke to Lois on the phone today about my claim and I must say this young lady was excellent to deal with.
She went above and beyond to help me and solve all my problems.
By the end of the phone call everything was sorted out.

My car is under warranty with motor…

My car is under warranty with motor point and needed to process a claim through the garage. Jake was really helpful getting the claim sorted for me and was very smooth process start to finish.

Overall excellent service although…

Overall excellent service although sometimes waiting times can be lengthy when phoning to start claim but once established the process is easy and quick and have no negative dealings with this company and staff are helpful
Some issues getting repair companies to communicate with spectrum but have always found a way around this
All in all at 74 the best warranty Co I have come across

Extremely frustrating claim experience

I have been with Spectrum Insurance Company for two years and today had to make my first claim( i tried to do 2 other claims priorly but after all gave up and paid myself), which I honestly never wished to do.

My Volvo XC60 developed a headlamp malfunction. I provided evidence from the service centre showing exactly what the fault was. Spectrum then asked me for an estimate, which I also provided. They have a very limited list of agreed service centres, so I had to find a suitable garage myself.

After all of this, Spectrum contacted the service centre directly, and now they are asking me to book yet another appointment at the garage so someone can take a photo of whatever is broken. This means more wasted time and more cost for me, even though I have already provided the evidence and estimate they requested.

The whole process feels like a joke. Instead of helping with the claim, it feels like they are just trying to find reasons not to pay anything.

For a first claim after two years of being a customer, this has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. I would not recommend them at all.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you have been disappointed with the claims process.

Having reviewed your claim, we can confirm the claim has not been declined. We initially received an invoice relating to a replacement battery, however batteries are excluded under the warranty terms and conditions. We then requested an estimate relating to the reported headlamp malfunction and rear axle level sensor fault in order to progress the assessment of the claim.

In order to establish whether the failed components are covered under the warranty, we do require the exact cause of failure (XCOF) together with supporting evidence from the repairing garage. This allows us to ensure the claim is assessed fairly, accurately and in line with the warranty terms and conditions.

Under the warranty process, the repairing garage is required to provide the exact fault and relevant supporting information before repairs can be authorised, and the claim administrator reserves the right to request further evidence or inspect the vehicle where required.

We appreciate this may feel frustrating, however these steps are part of the standard claims assessment process and are not intended to avoid valid claims.

The lights are on but nobody is home

Previously my dealings with Spectrum have been great, they sorted any issues out with a minimum of fuss.

But recently things have changed. It has been nearly 2 weeks since I tried to get in touch with them to put a claim in. Nobody is picking up the phones. Nobody is doing callbacks and my emails have been ignored.

I finally dug out an old direct email of Elle in the payments team and she was polite and courteous enough to reply promptly, but was unable to help as it had to go to another team.

Looking at recent reviews this doesn't seem to be an isolated incident, so whatever has changed at Spectrum has been for the worse and is extremely disappointing given the previously excellent levels of service.

*edit* Well the ball now seems to be rolling (maybe from this review?) and a helpful chap named Daniel has been in touch. Hopefully things go more smoothly now. Will update as the claim progresses.

Following a full review of our records, we can confirm that you contacted us on 02/04/2026 and spoke with a member of our team regarding a warranty query. We also received correspondence sent to our accounts department on 06/05/2026, which was responded to via telephone on 07/05/2026.

However, we have no record of a telephone call being received on 24/04/2026, nor can we locate the email you state was originally sent to our claims inbox on that date.

As your policy expired on 26/04/2026, we will need to validate that any claim notification or request for authorisation was submitted prior to the expiry of cover. To assist with this, we would ask that you forward the original email in its original format, including timestamps/headers where possible, together with any supporting call logs evidencing attempted contact, to "Customer Services" [Customerservices@spectrumcover.co.uk](mailto:Customerservices@spectrumcover.co.uk).

We always aim to provide a professional and responsive service and take all feedback seriously. Once the requested information is received, we will be happy to review the matter further.

Avoid!!

Avoid. A completely useless warranty. We bought an extended warranty for a car which we bought for an extra £900 and they have refused to pay up. They have come up with all sorts of spurious arguments to try and avoid paying out, attempting to rely on exclusions in the terms and conditions. We now have to go to court to get our money back. Incredibly unhelpful customer service and impossible to get hold of.

We are sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with the outcome of this claim.

As previously explained in response to the original review left regarding this matter, Spectrum acts as the administrator of the Motorpoint warranty product and all claims are assessed strictly in accordance with the terms, conditions and independent technical evidence obtained during the claims process.

Following inspection by an independent engineer, it was confirmed that the thermostat housing had failed, resulting in coolant loss and subsequent engine overheating. The warranty provided cover for the failed thermostat housing and associated repairs; however, consequential engine damage resulting from overheating is not covered under the terms of the warranty.

We appreciate your comments that no warning indicators were observed at the time and understand how frustrating this situation has been. However, the claim decision was based on the engineer’s findings, the applicable policy wording and the terms of cover in place.

For transparency, copies of the engineer’s reports, the relevant policy wording and the applicable warranty clause have all been provided directly to the policyholder during the handling of this claim.

We also note that another review relating to the same claim matter has already been responded to in detail. As this review concerns the same circumstances, we do not intend to duplicate the full claims response publicly again.

Whilst we appreciate this was not the outcome hoped for, we strongly dispute any suggestion that claims are assessed unfairly or without proper investigation.

I did spoke on 10/04/2026 with Spectrum…

I did spoke on 10/04/2026 with Spectrum Insurance to make an check on the car because of oil leak. They provide for me 2 of them partner near me and I had to call them by my self to make an appointment . On 17/04/2026 the recommended garage they check my car.
On 01/05/2026 I receive a email from Spectrum say that they don't cover entire cost of repair but the issue is leaking oil from engine gasket and this is not made from bad manner driving or wear or tear. Is nearly 1 month since I enquire the repair and still waiting for some decision and also I was advice from Spectrum to don't use the car during the waiting time. They don't give me a replacement car to can keep that car just as a model on my driveway.

Having reviewed the claim, we can confirm the fault was reported to us on 10/04/2026 and you were provided with details of local network repairers in line with the warranty claims procedure. The vehicle was subsequently inspected by Bimmer Ltd, who diagnosed the issue as a leak from the crankshaft rear oil seal.

Under the warranty terms, repairs are authorised in accordance with recognised manufacturer or industry-standard labour repair times. Following review of the estimate submitted by the repairer, the claim was authorised for £811.13 including VAT, with labour agreed in line with the policy terms.

Whilst we appreciate your comments regarding the cause of failure, the warranty terms explain that oil seals and gaskets are not covered where the failure is considered wear and tear related. Following further review of your claim and the vehicle eligibility, assistance was still authorised towards the repair costs.

In relation to a replacement vehicle, the warranty provides a contribution towards hire costs only where the authorised labour repair time exceeds 8 hours as listed within recognised repair manuals. Delays relating to booking repairs or awaiting parts are not included within this benefit.

We do appreciate your frustration regarding the overall timescales and communication throughout the process and will take your feedback on board internally.

Spectrum warranty a joke

I bought a very nice and quite new second hand Nissan Qashqai and decided a warranty would be a good idea so paid an extra £900 for a warranty which was a Spectrum warranty. Everything was fine and I really liked my new car. Six months later out of the blue while driving on a cold wintry night the car overheated and lost power due to a broken thermostat casing. There was absolutely no warning - no warning lights flashing, nothing at all to alert us to what was happening.
And now shockingly we have been told that the car needs a new engine and our Spectrum warranty does not cover the cost because the car overheated and we shouldn’t have driven a car that was overheating even though we were unaware of the situation. Spectrum have assessed the case and have decided that they will only cover the cost of the snapped thermostat casing - £361.19 - which caused the subsequent overheating of the engine. I paid £11,000 for the car which I have now lost and I have no car. Nor did Spectrum cover the cost of a car hire while I waited more than 4 weeks for their assessment. During the four weeks I heard almost nothing from them and had to call and wait on hold for ages to ask them for updates. I am deeply shocked by my experience.

Following your claim, an independent engineer’s inspection confirmed that the thermostat housing had failed, causing coolant loss and engine overheating. While the Motorpoint warranty covered the failed thermostat housing and associated repairs, the warranty terms do not provide cover for consequential engine damage caused by overheating or where damage occurs after a fault has developed.

We note your comments that there were no warning lights or indications that the vehicle was overheating at the time and appreciate how frustrating this must have been. You may wish to raise this aspect directly with Nissan to establish whether any warning systems should have activated under the circumstances described.

We also recognise your dissatisfaction with the timescales and communication during the assessment process, and we apologise that the level of service provided did not meet expectations.

Complex engine failures can take time to fully assess, particularly where independent inspections and technical reviews are required, and we aim to ensure that all available information is reviewed thoroughly before confirming a claim outcome.

With regard to the hire vehicle costs, Spectrum acts solely as the administrator of the Motorpoint warranty, and any entitlement to additional benefits is governed by the terms and conditions of the Motorpoint warranty cover.

We understand this was not the outcome you were hoping for and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.

I was having gearbox problems with my…

I was having gearbox problems with my Ford Ecosport . I took it to Fords for assessment & the quoted £7000.00 for replacement, I remembered that I took out a warranty when I purchased my car from car giant . I called them & they directed me to contact Nick at Brittanic Auto Transmission. He arranged for collection & advised what was wrong. I was apprehensive giving him authorisation to identify cause of fault but after speaking to Nick he made me see that the car with no gearbox working was not the way forward & had to be fixed either way . Within a day of authorising Brittanic then liaised with spectrum & Andrew came back to me with good news . My claim was successful. Big Thank you to Andrew Ward for looking in to it ASAP . Thanks to spectrum team for returning faith

Do not use this company

Do not use this company. I took out tyre and alloy insurance for a brand new car. I was not made aware that pictures had to be provided - why this is a requirement on a brand new car I still do not understand! A used car I can see why this would be required. I have had multiple previous tyre and alloy insurance policies and this has NEVER been a requirement. Unfortunately, I slightly damaged an alloy before being made aware of this stipulation. I was confronted with complete inflexibility and a complete lack of customer service or even appreciation of a customer. I ultimately decided to cancel the policy and get a refund. It's a shame as Direct Gap who sold the policy are very customer focused. Avoid Spectrum and find another insurance company that won't rip you off.
