I signed up to work with a specific tutor, and I was assured that no money would be taken from my account unless that tutor was available. However, the tutor was unavailable, and although other tutors reached out to me, I wasn't interested in them. Despite this, they still withdrew €39 from my account

This company is so dishonest and…

This company is so dishonest and misleading. I signed up last December and I cancelled my subscription numerous times. They have told me the money has not been taken from my account. But it clearly is even after I cancelled the subscription. I have been charged every month since December.

Superprof is surely a scam?

I would give this service no stars if I could. I signed up yesterday. I found a tutor I thought would be suitable and filled in my credit card details. I then realised it was a subscription service however was reassured when my confirmation email said that the €39 would not be debited from my account unless the tutor accepted my request. Well, it is now 24 hours since I made the request and the tutor hasn't responded to me but the €39 was debited from account yesterday evening. I have sent Superprof several emails over the course of the day and they haven't come back to me. I feel totally scammed by Superprof.

Rip off, they collect an initial €39 and you still have to pay the tutor!

We send all our students follow-up emails informing you of our terms of service and that the pass can be cancelled at any point.

You can also find more comprehensive information on our website under our terms and conditions, which details that the Student Pass is not connected with individual tutors or lessons, rather it is the rate to contact tutors in general through the Superprof platform for a minimum period of 30 days.

I would give this service zero stars

I would give this service zero stars if I could. After messaging a tutor, they say the tutor has accepted your request to teach you. payed €40 assuming this payment was for lessons. Spoke with the tutor on the phone and found out she wouldn’t feel comfortable teaching at my level which is totally fine. No complaints about the tutor whatsoever. Emailed the service to try to get a refund only for them to not respond and cancel my monthly “student pass”. €40 a month just to message and look at the profiles of tutors. Their website is incredibly misleading and their customer service is terrible. I had my account for less than 24 hours so I should be able to be fully refunded. They don’t even have a cancellation policy for their monthly student pass, only the lessons! I hope this service is proud of the fact they took money from a struggling student like myself by misleading them.

The Student Pass is a monthly subscription of £39 and it allows you to contact as many tutors as you like for a period of 30 days. You will then need to pay the tutor rate separately.

With an active Student Pass you can contact an unlimited number of tutors until you find the perfect fit.

If you've not been able to organise lessons with a tutor due to fault on their part, then that's something which we would like to look into for you.

My experience was awful

My experience was awful. I booked a tutor and she cancelled and then I suspended my account but they charged me for multiple months after this. I disputed unsuccessfully the charges with my credit card company. They make it really hard for you to cancel and they are not customer friendly. I found the whole experience terrible.

Total scam

Total scam. No info that the ‘Student Pass’ is a monthly subscription or if it’s there it’s hidden. Tutors who confirmed didn’t contact me back after initial response. After reading these reviews I’m off to make sure my subscription really is cancelled!

feel completely duped . I signed up to a French class with ‘Loise’ who’s qualifications appealed to me . Once I paid I find I’m signed up to everyone . Not what I expected . ´Loisé’ was the bait but doesn’t seem to exist now . Very annoyed . And no , it’s not clear .

Big Scam says the €39 won’t be taken…

Big Scam says the €39 won’t be taken out of your account and then it’s taken immediately have used sites before never have been charged like this don’t use do your research on sites that don’t take €39 euro before you even have a tutor let alone a lesson unreal buyer beware !!!

Information about the Student Pass is accessible at any time in our legal notices as well as in our Help Centre.

We mention on our payment page that the pass is a “monthly subscription”, “without commitment and charged only if a teacher accepts your request”, and that it gives “unlimited access to all teachers in all subjects”. The subscription can also be cancelled at any time, with no penalty charges and no payments due thereafter.

We appreciate that, like many important decisions in life, finding a tutor that's right for your needs can be a system of trial and error. That's why the pass offers the chance to connect with multiple tutors, in case the first one turns out not to be a good fit for your tuition needs.

Superprof is such a good website!

Superprof is such a good website for such a good service. You can get super experienced teachers and you can even do it from home.
I’ve had the luxury of teaching students and it gives great pride to see them learn.

I have been charged 2 x €39 for absolutely nothing. A tutor accepted a lesson request but it was not possible to contact them. I fear this site is a complete scam.

Confusing, spam and unexpected cost

I sent a request for information on swimming lessons to a particular tutor - next thing I get messages he’s not available and one has been selected on my behalf. I then noticed payment come out of my PayPal which I reported and when I went in to see what all these messages are - I have messages in multiple languages and one of the people recommended doesn’t even seem to be in Ireland. This brought me to Trustpilot to see if the company is legit and I see similar complaints.

I honestly can not believe how you guys…

I honestly can not believe how you guys operate your business. You're breaking so many gdpr laws it's actually hilarious nobody reported you. Well, not until now, anyway, I wrote a lengthy, detailed, proof-riddled report to the Data Protection Comissioner, and I'm so looking forward to what's gonna come out of it.

You CAN'T share your users details with random parties JUST because they made an account on your website. STOP with the 142348239523895 texts a day from 150000 different numbers, plus emails, plus calls, etc. STOP adding ACCEPTED tuition on our accounts without consent. Are you making some suggestions when someone denies? FINE! BUT DON'T MAKE THE CALL FOR ME.

Anyway, as everyone here said, these people are a joke. The platform's sole purpose is to charge you their "subscription" fee. Only you subscribe to have your data sold to random entities, be spammed with a trillion moronic messages and suggestions a day, and THEN be charged for stuff they put on your account without your consent.

Stay away from these losers, absolute scam, and I can't believe they're still running considering how much shady bs they do.

Be careful…feels like a scam

Be careful…. I signed up to Superprof and requested a tutor who declined, I was then bombarded with alternative options including phone calls. I contacted one of these alternative options to asses suitably and immediately I was charged.
The tutor I contacted has never responded to me and I have emailed super prof in relation to the fee they took but no response received.
Not a great service and seems like a scam.

Exceptionally misleading service - Breach of data protection

Horrendous customer service - in breach of data protection - Misleading

I signed up to get my son maths grinds from one specific person living in my locality. The tutor was not available to fulfil the request, which was fine. They state that you can get a refund if the tutor request is denied. When I went to request a refund I had 7 texts and emails from superprof suggesting random tutors. I emailed to say I didn't want any suggestions only a refund. I open my dashboard to see the 7 tutors "Accepted my request" (which I did NOT request or give permission for superprof to share my details with the community). I messaged each person back to let them know the situation. I open my email and there are 7 ACCEPTED tutor offers and that I need to schedule in tuition!! This 'service' is a SCAM. It is set up to lock the customer into paying a fee whether you do or do not get the service. The UNSOLICITED texts and emails are in breach of consumer data protection laws. The time I wasted having to email superprof customer service team (unanswered), and emailing the tutors I never requested in the first place warrants an immediate refund of the €39 fee. In total, Between the tutors (I never requested) and the emails to their customer service, which totalls 14 emails as well as 7 individual messages in the dashboard to the tutors I never requested. STAY CLEAR (I'm still getting texts from superprof... )

Teacher perspective

From my perspective as a teacher the system is not very user friendly. These are the difficulties I encountered:

1 It says that if you have four or more recommendations, your profile will be upgraded. Five of my students’ parents wrote me the nicest recommendations within minutes of being asked, but only two were ever published.
2 I get regular lesson requests and I always answer immediately by sending a personalised message detailing my availability. I have never gotten a message back, instead I just get a lesson request for a time I didn’t suggest, always on the same day or the next morning with almost no preparation time and no reply to my messages that would give me any idea of how to prepare for that lesson. So I go out of my way to make that lesson happen on the short notice, free lessons I don’t get paid for, and next I get a cancellation with no explanation or message. Subsequent messages from me to reschedule are ignored as are my previous messages where I would try to find out what the student wants to work on.

To summarise, I have gone to a lot of trouble and spent time and effort to arrange myself around student expectations that seem to be very high but are never communicated and I have had no benefit so far. I have been working as a private piano teacher for several years now and I know that this behaviour is not typical for students. I’m struggling to understand what encourages this kind of culture in this community and how I can benefit from the site. I’m considering withdrawing my profile.

As for the lesson requests, we understand that it can be frustrating to receive lesson proposals without sufficient notice or communication. This is why we keep the lesson request and lesson proposal separate, to allow the tutor and student to share their availabilities and coordinate an appropriate time for a lesson.
