The fundraising event occurred in September 2025. 5,5 months later, still awaiting payment.
Management hides behind call centre staff. Delays attributed to a 'problem' with the recipient bank's account confirmation letter, which makes no sense. Payment promises made, but nothing materialises.
Informed that finance people don't have phones!!!!

Our customer service team works closely with management and finance, and in some cases payouts can be delayed when required banking documentation does not meet verification standards. This is a regulatory safeguard, not an attempt to withhold funds.

Withholding funds and causing stress
I raised a significant amount of money and have submitted a request to withdraw funds. I received a confirmation email saying it would take up to 5 working days to process. This never happened. Email responses are quite generic too. No real solutions provided and response time is slow. They also keep telling me some of the donations are still under review due and they’re waiting for feedback from donors. However many of my donors have said they submitted the requested documents a while ago and have not heard back from them. Essentially, BaB is withholding the funds from me.

Zay-yaan has been in touch with you via email and has explained some of our policies around why certain donations occasionally need further verification. These checks are in place to protect both donors and campaign creators, but we completely acknowledge that this has taken longer than it should have.
We want to be very clear that we have not forgotten about you, and the funds are not being held for any personal gain. We’re simply following the required processes and are committed to resolving this in a way that’s fair and aligned with the best interests of you, your donors, and the platform.

Scam Fundraising
When I submitted my complaint to BACKABUDDY the complaint was initially ignored. They have now responded to the TRUST PILOT post and further information has been provided, however the cANCer campaign has not been suspended pending investigation.
The campaign by Stefnie Greenberg (Perlman) is nothing more than fund raising scam.
All the fund raiser seeks is to gain empathy of readers and is based on false and misleading information.
Those who have donated have been hoodwinked.
Backabuddy don't appear to have any vetting mechanism to safeguard prospective donators.

From Frustration to Prompt Resolution
Initially, I received no response or support, which left me frustrated and concerned that my campaign was doomed to fail from the start. Despite submitting all documentation on the very first day, I could not get hold of anyone, and I was unsure what would happen to the donations.
However, shortly after submitting my review, I was contacted by Tessa, who immediately explained the process and guided me on what was still required to get my campaign certified. Within less than a week, the issue was completely resolved — my campaign was verified, and I was able to submit my donation request.
Thanks a million to Tessa for the kind, professional, and prompt assistance. I am changing my review from 1 star to 5 stars. Thank you for turning this around and restoring my confidence in the process.

Very disappointed- no customer relations at all!
I am so disappointed in BackaBuddy. Regret donating! I have sent numerous emails and to no avail. They responded once and promised someone will get back to me and I’m still waiting over three weeks later. I’ve sent constant emails to so many contacts and all my messages have all been ignored.
Not happy at all they have no customer relations, no care or consideration, this has put me off donating through them again in the future! Awful customer service.

terrible service after their website update
After Backabuddy updated their website last year my son could no longer access his campaign. I have asked them numerous times to fix this and received a list of items to submit to resolve the issue - which we did. After following up and confirming previous discussions I still dont have answers. I asked that they close the campaign but i still keep on getting password reset mails which i told them does not work. i am tired of this

I don't know where to start my experience with BackaBuddy was and is still outstanding;to my surprise I didn't pay even R1 fee everything is fo Mahala free of charge.4months I go I manage to at least make R16k with the help of my campaign manager Zane Groenewald and this young intelligent lady Simbulele Jezile who always make sure;she help me with my campaign as i am old school.A month ago I met Lackiwe Blekiwe aka Lakiwe and Monique Weich ;it's like I know these people wonky who but no I just met them ;had family time with them. It's a lot we had coffee but just yesterday they came to my place and bought food stuff for my community;I was speechless
;they even offer to cook meals for the kids .I have a lot of good stuff to say about BackaBuddy Team;keep it up you are not just Crowdfunding but you know how to heal souls .Thank you guys🙌🙌

Took the donation and kept it.
I donated $AU50 to a cause for someone I know in South Africa after her son's house was flooded and they lost everything. Not only did they not pass on the money, when I found out they did not return it to me either. And after getting in touch with their customer service, I was redirected and then nothing. Total scam.

They paid out my first withdrawal out one day after requesting a payout but than I requested another payout on the 23rd of December and it’s currently the 5th of January and I’ve still not received my payment cause it’s still pending & on the website it says it takes always 1-10 days , it’s been 12 days and still nothing . My friends who created this back a buddy campaign to pay for their studies says they have the same issue , payouts has been pending ?? Back a buddy what’s up???

It's only beneficial if you are white since most donors are white and prefer to donating to white people only. I created a fundraising and later saw whites with the similar fundraising as mine get donations while mine is still at 0. So colour plays a huge role. I also saw a black guy who's needing funds for eye surgery before he becomes blind and no donations he got but whites who posted later with the similar problems already raised close to R500 000.

Where are my donations????? Why aren’t they reflecting
I recently started a campaign to raise funds for an athletics championship in the USA. I have emailed the finance department and Carly on a few occasions requesting information on where my donations are as my friends have donated and have proof yet the donations aren’t reflecting but my friends have received thank you emails regarding their donations!!! I am deeply concerned! Where are my donations? Why doesn’t the finance department respond???? After reading all these reviews I am very upset! Where is the honesty? Don’t use Backabuddy!
