A lucky escape!
Just as well I never needed to claim.....it was hard enough to cancel my automatic renewal as it was totally uncompetitive. Easy to sign up for very difficult to leave, complete lack of customer response/support - really glad I never needed to file a claim! Despite what they claim below having followed them instructions on the website 3 times I still have no confirmation....2 emails and no time to wait in a queue for the call centre..... Easy.... No not really!

It is quick and easy to cancel a renewal as it can be done via email, via the contact centre (Monday - Saturday) or via the cycleGuard website.
We have a high level of claims satisfaction so had you ever needed to make a valid claim, which fortunately for you never arose, then we would have dealt with it quickly and efficiently as we do for many other customers.

They will try hard to not to pay your claim
When one of the two bikes was stolen, they did everything they could to not pay the claim. I had to make a complaint to demonstrate that the rejection reason was not valid. They accepted the complaint and then found another reason to not to pay the claim. At that point I clearly stated that I would not renew my insurance, but they automatically renewed my policy.. covering TWO bikes!

Great bike so far
Great bike so far, only had it for a week, bike came well boxed and easy to assemble, battery range could be better and brakes are a little noisy. Other than that great bike 🙂

It was very quick to get insured with cycle guard bike insurance, plus it was hassle free and the premium was very affordable for the cover I got.

Seems reasonable but never had to claim
Had cycle guard for roughly 3 years, never needed to make a claim but it seemed reasonably priced. Bike has gone down in value and use, however price of cover has gone up so I have cancelled it. The online portal did not work to cancel but the team were very helpful when emailed.
I've given it 3 out of 5 because the price rise didn't make sense, I probably would of continued paying existing price just because it can be hassle cancelling, the online portal didn't work and most importantly I've never claimed so hard to give an accurate review of the company for what you need it for.

We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your renewal quote. Unfortunately the rates are subject to factors such as inflation and increased claims within the market which leads to pricing increasing over time.
Its not possible to cancel within the online portal but you can do this via email or over the phone.

The documents were emailed out to you on the 29th when the policy was taken up but we are going to resend them for you today.
Its worth checking your junk folder as sometimes we do find emails to customers finding their way into that folder.

Enormous excess fees
Initially I was paying around £11 a month and then my bike was stolen. They approved my claim and rose the monthly payment to £18 in the next year which was kind of fair and I did not question it. I paid it for another year and a half. Recently I needed to do the repairs costing £250. I found out that my excess is now £200! So paying them £216 a year and not being able to get a fair damage cover just doesn't make any sense. Cancelled and moved on to a different provider.

As you've quite rightly said, insurance will generally increase in line with the associated risk so if an individual makes a claim, or multiple claims, the annual premium will increase.
With regards to the excess, we operate a sliding scale depending on the claim level:
Under £1,499 = £50
Between £1,500 and £2,999 = £100
Between £3,000 and £4,999 = £150
Over £5,000 = £200
Looking at your review it would appear that your claim was in the lower bracket so would not have been £200.
Please do feel free to reach out to our claims team to discuss further but if you do decide to move to another insurer then it is worth checking their excess levels.
