Sainsburys Isleworth poor management

Sainsburys, Isleworth. Very poor management.
1. Staff wondering around talking loudly on mobile phones while restocking the shelves at lunchtime (!) blocking the passages and avoiding eye contact with customers who need them to give access to the merchandise
2.Three payment machines with constant problems. The security man usually the only person around willing to help.
3. Cash accepting machine prone to spiting out change in handfuls of copper coins. Nobody needs to have a pocket full of shrapnel.
4. Customers waiting while staff hiding away and not available to come and sort out payment problems.
5. Nobody on the till which is meant to be manned hence forced to put £2 purchase on a card. Absurd.
6. On few occasions when the security man was not around I spotted young men walking in, picking up a drink and a sandwich and walking out unseen by the invisible staff.
7. The only friendly and helpful staff member who knows what she is doing is a middle aged blond lady.

I'm giving 5 stars for 2 reasons

I'm giving 5 stars for 2 reasons, 1) They are overall a good supermarket, I think their rating should be much higher than it is, and 2) they were quick at cancelling a PCN issued unfairly by EuroCarParks at their Hitchin branch - and they need a word with those Euromorons. In June '26 we parked at Hitchin Sainsbury where you can pay for 1 or 2 hours and they will refund instore if you buy there. In hindsight maybe we should have bought 2 hours but we just intended staying maybe 45 minutes. in fact we cut it a bit finer than intended and parked for 57 minutes. We got a PCN. Turns out the Hitchin Euromorons clock you driving in a long convoluted way in, and out is even further via a 2nd car park, all very slow, esp if you are unfamiliar with the area, not well signed, it is 630 metres in and out total, 700 yards, almost half a mile. So it took us an extra 10 minutes. Two points here, a) the parking 'contract' is not formed till you have parked up and read the terms, so time can't start when you drive down the road in, as Euromorons do, and b) the terms on the sign are ambiguous, doesn't say about the entrance exit cameras that take another 10 minutes, there is a useful legal term here called Contra Proferentem, basically means, if the terms are ambiguous, it will be interpreted against the drafter. Another useful tip. If you want t get to a Sainsbury store manager email direct, they don't publish these but their format is "Manager.hitchin(at)sainsburys.co.uk" so if you substitute the town/branch name that you want, this does go direct. Sainsbury need to talk to Euromorons and tell them to have an unannounced policy of 15 minutes extra as this is needed to cover your driving time in and out the car park. that would save everyone a lot of hassle. Anyway Sainsbury did cancel it, within a few days, so well done, shame everyone had to be bothered by this, anyway i like your produce Sainsbury so will keep on visiting you.,

No nectar card or app not working, don't go in!

Comedy show experience of store and phone line customer service incompetence.
Went to the store all items I wanted were on nectar offers (I only wanted a couple of specific things). No problem I will just use the app on my phone. This was not working. So again assumed no problem could just go to customer services as the store was quiet and they could look up my details from something else (address, e-mail, phone number etc) but no, there was nothing they could do I would have to pay full price. This roughly doubled the bill as it was only a few items. So left them and walked out. Then tried the complaints line once I got home. I was hoping to say could they add this facility to their stores (looking up nectar cards from customer service or some other option for example some shops carry a specific card for just this situation) . Complaints line said my nectar address was wrong so nothing they could do (no other form of verification would do as the address was wrong). I needed to phone nectar directly. I phoned nectar who confirmed my address was correct and no idea what Sainsburys was talking about. Phoned Sainsburys complaints back they completely failed to understand I needed to check my address recorded with them and that I felt they need a better system in store if they have items relying on their nectar price promotions to make the prices in line with elsewhere. The phone line kept asking if I wanted a refund on something I had purchased, which I explained I had not because of the issue with the nectar cards. Then they just stopped talking and left line (didn't hang up, no holding music, no static just silence). Whole thing felty like an episode of a comedy show with total incompetence from store through to help line attempting to refer me to else where. So if you don't have your nectar card check the app if and it's not working be prepared to pay a premium or don't go in.

I am writing to raise an issue that I…

I am writing to raise an issue that I found deeply upsetting during a visit to one of your stores today.
At approximately 6:30 pm, while standing near the bakery section with my wife, I observed a member of staff carrying out what appeared to be a routine check of the unpackaged bakery items. As I watched, he proceeded to throw every single item into a bin.
I cannot adequately express how disturbing it was to witness such a large quantity of perfectly edible food being discarded so casually. At a time when many people in the UK are struggling with the cost of living, and millions around the world are facing food insecurity and humanitarian crises, seeing food disposed of in this manner was genuinely shocking.
What made this even more difficult to understand was what I saw moments later after checking out. Near the exit were several boxes clearly labelled "Food Donations." I found this incredibly contradictory. On one hand, customers are encouraged to donate food to support those in need, while on the other, your own store appears to be disposing of significant quantities of edible food.
If these bakery items were genuinely unfit for consumption, I appreciate that food safety must always come first. However, if they were simply being removed because they had reached a certain display time or were approaching the end of the trading day, I would urge you to reconsider whether there are better alternatives. Many supermarkets work with food redistribution charities or discount products before disposal to reduce unnecessary waste.
I would appreciate an explanation of your policy regarding unsold bakery products and why disposal is considered preferable to redistribution where possible. As a customer, I find it difficult to reconcile this level of waste with the messages supermarkets promote around supporting communities and reducing food waste.

Frozen goods defrosted

I haven't used Sainsbury's home delivery service since lockdown but thought I'd give it a go this week. Big mistake. All the frozen goods had defrosted. I ordered what is described as fresh lemonade which tasted of freshly squeezed lemon juice. The bread had a use by date of tomorrow.
Rang customer service as the website for refund would not recognise the order number I had been given. Phone answered by a man with a strong accent who could not understand what I was telling him at first. There was a LOT of background noise - mainly people shrieking with laughter.

Sainsbury's Purley Way - Deliveroo Delivery

This review is related to the Purley Way, CR0 4XT, store. I placed a Sainsbury's order through Deliveroo which had been delivered by Deliveroo.

The delivery was not an issue for me. Some of the grocery items, however, certainly were.

The broccoli had only a 3-day shelf life, and looked it. The cheese was disgusting in presentation. The meat products were shoved in with everything else. Unhygienic.

Although, knowing what this particular local supermarket's managing and security staff were like (back in the day, circa 1999), all this came as no real surprise. There's obviously been no improvement in employee intelligence over the last two decades.

The genius, on this occasion, was equally astounding. On a day of 30 degrees top temperature, no dry ice packs were used to pack ice cream.

This place is exactly as I remember it...I'd love to elaborate but this would render the review unpublishable.

Here endeth a 45 year relationship. Goodbye Sainsburys!!!!!

Billet St, Taunton TA1 3NE.
Absolutely FUMING!! Was visiting Taunton for the first time in over thirty years, I don't know the town but when I saw a Sainsbury's decided to do my weekly shop. I parked, shopped, went home.
Today I have received a parking fine for £100 for the 40 mins I was in their store. I wouldn't mind paying if I had broken a law but at no time did I see any signage or payment meters, it never even crossed my mind that a supermarket would charge for a short visit.
Needless to say I will be cancelling my delivery package and they have lost a customer of over forty five years, more fool you because I have always done my weekly shop with yourselves. I'm incandescent with rage and telling everyone I know to boycott. These parking crooks need stopping. Shame on you Sainsburys but I don't suppose you'll answer as I see you never do!

Both Maidstone store and Hempstead valley store have shocking customer service. Maidstone had issue with using sky voucher and not supported and at Hempstead valley issues using Nectar card and again no support. I doubt training is ever given on supporting customers and keeping customers using service. Will not be using Sainsbury’s again and would not recommend.

My husband and i were served this morning by a very rude young lady.

We only stopped by for some stamps at the front till by the entrance and were treated like a burden for interupting her and her colleagues conversations.

Experiences like this are enough to put people off returning. We hae shopped here for many years and never been made to feel that way to the point i even opened a trust pilot account to leave this review.

Visited a Sainsbury’s store for weekly…

Visited a Sainsbury’s store for weekly shop and used one of their self scan devices. When shop completed we arrived at the till area and zapped the bar code to transfer from reader to till whereupon, the till light instantly turned red, Wait for Assistance. The Assistant appeared and had to check 14 items at random. If we hadn’t carefully packed the shopping into 4 bags as we navigated the store we would have left the trolley and the shopping into it and left without it and done our weekly shop elsewhere. I / we are not paid to be checkout operators. If stores do not trust shoppers to self scan they should bin the system and return to personal service till operators. How often do stores carry out random checks on their till staff? May I suggest these stores have one till staffed to carry out a 100% check on a customers trolley or, cease doing random checks on self scanned trolleys before someone decides to sue them for defamation of character.

First and last time using Chop shop

First time using Chop shop, bonus got a free delivery code, but went past promised delivery time ,ring up and they say it is being cancelled, asked about the delivery code, get told I had lost it. They lost me as a customer, went to Tesco, not wasting my time with Sainsbury's ever again. Useless customer service, could not hear them over all the other noise wherever they were.

Taste the difference - it's now awful!

Sainsbury's TV advertising claims to have reduced prices to compete with Aldi. They don't mention that they've made changes to products to do that.
The dumplings in their 'Taste the Difference Steak Casserole and Dumplings' now not only taste different; they're inedible!

OMG !!!!

OMG, went to Sainsburys Blackheath, West Midlands, today, wished I hadn't wasted the fuel. There was no food !! Well slight exaggeration I hear you say but there was no meat, steak, chicken etc, no dairy products, no salad etc. Oh the fridges are all broke cos of the heat they said, well mend them then, oh no can't do that costs too much, because all the clever supermarkets have all updated their fridges, but not Sainsburys. I could have had pizza but I did not want pizza, Husband wanted steak ha you will be lucky !!! So I did do some shopping, mainly pop and ooh a melon but I had nothing for tea !!!! Had to use more fuel and go to another supermarket who had updated their fridges and got what else I needed. Oh yes, got some milk from Sainsburys ???? Also half the milk was all over the floor and there was no staff willing to mop it up !!! They talk of 15 minute journeys to shop in your local supermarket, took me over an hour and if we are reduced to these 15 minute journeys, let's hope the fridges have been updated otherwise you will STARVE !!! Well it was my last ever shopping trip to Sainsburys because I have discovered that another supermarket that sells "not just food this is M and S food" is not on a lot of things, not as expensive as people think !!! Goodbye Sainsburys, customer for over 30 years tut tut ........

Delivery didn’t arrive in designated time slot (which was paid for). Customer service are unable to track drivers or process cancellation or refund. They have to process everything through the store who don’t answer their phones, your then left in a position where you have no confirmation you will receive groceries, 2 hours after the times slot, or your money returned.

Will not be stopping from this brand again.

Recent in shop purchases at Sprucefield Co Down. One item, a hand wash was passed through the manned till check but then disappeared. On paying no items was left on the till area and a thorough search at home could not locate the item. It appeared as charged on the receipt. One is left to ponder where the item is now!

This truly amazed and saddened me

This truly amazed and saddened me. I usually buy gift cards as gifts as the recipient can then choose something they like. I have done this many times with no trouble. I ordered two gift cards in one e-mail (should be no issue with this) both for £160 each. On the day of purchase there was a real mess up and they sent me one voucher which worked and one which would not. I ordered these cards in May and was sent two cards but only one worked. This is where my main issues lie. Straight away they blamed the bank and cleared themselves without checking anything, the feeling of rudeness was there all the time, they did not care. I went to my bank and they swore it was not them. I had started to wonder about Sainsburys gift cards as a company as they behaved so oddly. I beleived my bank despite Sainsburys gift card stating in no uncertain terms they had better find it. They then left as though all concluded. I sent them a screenshot of the reply from my bank to which I was met with complete silence. I mailed and mailed asking for an outcome. It transpires they had the money all the time and refunded it eventually. Not once did anyone say sorry or admit they were wrong. It was arrogance if i had to choose a word, they were so unhelpful and would never have given me my money back had it not come to light.

I will never use them again, it was probably the most arrogant, non caring staff i have ever encountered in any business. Utterly horrendous experience which has left a real bitter taste in my mouth. I will never recommend you to anyone as i cant as it was so poor. Absolutely no mention of some compensation for calling me a liar, telling me a pack of lies until they were found out and had to admt it. 'Sorry' was not a word that was said to me at all. Be careful these are a sly lot and would seem to take your money and then sit on it and not tell you. Watch your transactions like a hawk.

Unavailable products in the £15 meal deal

When you order a meal deal for £15 there is a main course, a side, a dessert and a drink. If you order on line and do not wish to receive substitutes each item is discounted individually by a certain amount to a total of £15. HOWEVER, if any item is unavailable, they charge you the full amount for each of the items that you receive. The customer is not at fault if an item is not in stock. If the same problem occurs at Asda or Morrisons, the customer is charged the deal or discounted price. This is the 2nd time that the same problem has occurred. you need to check the lower item price on the original order email against the inflated receipt price
