I went to the St George branch at Indooroopilly

I went to the St George branch at Indooroopilly Shopping Town today (Monday the 21st of September 2026). I was the only customer in the office. The two customer service staff at the desk were busily playing with their phones when I walked in. The team member whom I approached - a blond twenty-something woman - looked irritated that she had to put her phone in order to speak to me. She was unfriendly to the point of rudeness. I explained to Miss 'I'm So Bored' that my debit card was due to expire in three months' time and that I will be overseas at the time. She then boredly stated that my only option was to apply for a new card three months ahead of time. I had to explain to her three times that the window had already expired, since she just kept repeating the same line in a monotone and clearly wasn't listening.

I have seldom encountered a customer service worker as lazy or blatantly uninterested in doing her job as this employee. She showed literally zero interest in helping me.

I should add that I have been with St George for twenty years. It's probably time to switch banks.

Absolutely no respect for customers

Absolutely no respect for customers. This branch appears to be seriously understaffed, and almost every time I visit, I have to wait more than 45 minutes just to be served.
The customer service experience is extremely frustrating, especially when customers are left waiting for such a long time with insufficient staff available.
In my opinion, people should consider using another branch until management takes these issues seriously. This branch needs major improvements in staffing, waiting times, and overall respect for customers.

WITH St geo for over 50 years now gone

we have been banking with St geo. for over 50 years, our first and second home with the aid of st geo. all loans paid off ahead of schedule 15-20 years ago no major problems. The trouble started when branches started to be closed about 20 years ago. Our local branch became an ATM terminal only, closest actual manned branch over 60km away. Inconvenient but not a game changer. The transition to online banking was not all that difficult, we did not need much in the way of face to face service. Then slowly at first, then quickly speeding up was the inability to speak with an agent. IA interface with limited option choices and very annoying repetition of exactly the same answers over and over to multiple questions. Now a very threatening first contact form letter was received by both my wife and myself regarding an identity check and confirmation. Very amuseing at first, they even still had our paper property deeds in the safe deposit. We had 6 weeks to comply or all of our accounts would be subject to unspecified "RESTRICTIONS". We had 4 accounts, a transaction account for the receipt of our pensions and superannuation payments, a savings account, a small debit card account used for transactions where the account number etc would given out, to reduce the risk of greater loss (on-line purchases and direct debit of regular bills usually) and finally a small limit credit card for use where cash was not accepted or convenience. We are now both over 75 years old but still healthy, active and alert, but my wife does not use a computer or like dealing with situations on the phone or with a machine. We were informed that we had about 6 weeks to comply before restrictions would be imposed. We tried to verify on line and got a mechanised runaround. We tried contacting 2 branches by phone, answered within seconds, informed that a staff member would be with you soon. After exactly 2min. on hold the line was hung up. This exact thing happened 5 times at one branch and 3 at the second. We ere unable to contact any agent on the main numbers, just a machine list of non-related options in a loop. Yesterday we went to our usual ATM for a withdrawal and was informed the transaction was refused because of "ACCOUNT RESTRICTIONS" Am I "PISSED? bloody oath I am. We have made an appointment with the only bank still with a staffed branch near us to arrange the transfer of all our banking needs.

Saint George Bank. I had a situation where I was extremely…

St. George Bank, Indooroopilly. I had a situation where I was extremely concerned about my account security. I was visibly upset but was told I should have made an appointment. That's service for you! Eventually someone did sit with me and calmed me down, but basically directed me to speak to the robot that started all this. IE wait in a phone queue, again! And text to a robot again! I left. Upset and disillusioned. In a separate matter, there are, if you are lucky, 3 chairs at my centre at Indooroopilly. And there are at least 20 elderly people in a queue each time that look very unsafe on their feet. It is heinous disrespect in my view. I hope there is some other bank service I can find that is actually a service!
(Just found out that Saint George Bank is doing upgrades of some sort which meant customers couldn't access their cash/ accounts for 5 days. They made the decision to not tell customers because they didn't want a rush on cash. So, all those 'pendings' in our accounts are because of that. And how many retailers are now out of pocket because of that! And how many customers maligned because their payment has been withheld!

Irresponsible Handling by Bank

Bank reported Interest received under a business account to Tax Office as one of the users personal . Bank blamed the user to open a Term Deposit online and refused to rectify with tax office. The user is having trouble of explaining to tax office that the interest belongs to the company.

No human customer support available. I cannot update my details or transfer money to pay bills because of an error stating You don't have a valid account. The mobile number on file is my old number so I can't update any details because of the 2 factor verification. Yet they don't mind my pay being deposited there. All support is BOT and of no help. Been hung up on 4 times, chat doesn't respond for hours and then logs me out. Will be closing my account as soon as I can access my money.

One star is too high

One star is too high, they state they can’t courier a replacement business Visa card to my suburb, then they say they can send to nearest branch, but then that branch is closed for refurbishment for 3 months so they finally find a branch 32k’s away and it will be delivered Tuesday or Wednesday next week and somebody from the branch “might” call me to let me know it’s there. Unbelievably poor customer service, time to change business banking.

I have spent half an hour trying to speak to customer service or log a suspected fraudulent debit. Eventually put on hold for 15 minutes or more.
St George made 7 billion profit last year but they clearly don't employ enough staff.

Absolutely horrendous

Absolutely horrendous. I was completely unable to make a transfer via either debit card or bank transfer to either an Aus post or wise card. Went into a branch and also spent hours on calls. They’re blaming the other apps, the apps are blaming St George. But no one has been able to sort it out.

I was with St George bank for 45 years

I was with St George bank for 45 years. I finally closed my account with them in early 2026.
I have never experienced the elevel of incompetence,
staff ignorance , technical antiquity or know how that
St George sunk to in the lasy 10 years. They cost me
endless stress, failure of OTC's causing loss, i endured blatent contradiction for ignorant untrained staff and
paralytic attendance to any urgent request.
I give them a minus 5 stars for the worst business I have ever endured.

Worst bank I’ve dealt with.

This is the worst bank I’ve ever dealt with — St. George Bank has been an absolute nightmare to deal with.

I’ve been trying to resolve a refund issue for months, and despite repeated attempts to get help, nothing has been resolved. Every time I call, I’m routed to overseas call centres where staff are unable to properly assist or take ownership of the situation. I’m left going in circles with no outcome.

On top of that, their communication systems appear to be completely broken. They keep insisting they’ll email me, but I’m not receiving anything. I’ve explained this multiple times, and even provided an alternative email address — still nothing comes through. At this point, it’s clear the issue is on their end, yet they continue to rely on a system that simply isn’t working.

Because of this, I haven’t been able to provide evidence or properly follow up on my case, which has completely stalled any progress.

As a result, I’ve gone without money that I am owed for months, which is incredibly stressful and unacceptable.

A bank should provide reliable support and clear communication, especially when it comes to customers’ finances. Unfortunately, this has been the exact opposite of my experience.

I would strongly recommend others think twice before banking with St. George.

No tech team to correct errors

When you dispute a transaction, it does not give you the option of uploading the documents for evidence. You have to wait several days and then they send you a text message about 1am or 6am to say they have sent you an email with further instructions. I currently have 2 disputes and get the text messages but I am not receiving any of the emails, I have to call them each time to ask what the update is.

When I call, I have to explain the situation each time and the staff always ask have I checked my junk email folder despite me telling them already that I have, they make me jump through hoops to identify myself and they usually refuse to let me speak to a supervisor.

It is an incredibly frustrating procedure and St George Bank claim that they do not have a tech department but it is apparently a huge secret as to who maintains their app, website etc. There is apparently not one person at St George bank who is able to fix the issue of me not receiving their dispute updates via email.

A supervisor named Jasmine is currently handling my case and she phoned me tonight at 10.16pm tonight! So I get woken up at 5am on a saturday morning, 6am on a sunday morning, 12.55am on a work night etc with irrelevant SMS notifications for emails that I never receive!

I have been with St George for about 30 years but once my current disputes are finalised, I will be changing banks over this issue. I am sick of it and as they claim they do not have a tech team who can fix it, I am not prepared to go through this again. I will be opening a new account with Suncorp Bank tomorrow and transfering over everything and once everything is transferred over then I am leaving St George. These staff get paid to talk to me on the phone, I have been offered nothing except for lame apologies for waking me up at ridiculous hours and spending hours having to contact them for updates.

I feel like I am being ganged up upon by the retailer who ripped me off and by St George who refuse to fix this known issue. I have an account with Suncorp for savivg and have never felt bullied by them.

Long-term customer treated poorly during fraud incident

I’ve been a St George customer for over 40 years, across multiple accounts and home loans, and this is easily the worst customer experience I’ve had with any financial institution.

I identified a series of unauthorised transactions on my account and contacted St George to report what is clearly a fraud matter. Instead of being handled appropriately, I received incorrect advice suggesting I would need to resolve this with PayPal simply because I have used their service before.

I experienced multiple wait times exceeding 30 minutes, was denied escalation when requested, and most recently had a call disconnected halfway through the verification process with no follow-up.

To make matters worse, my formal complaint was closed without any meaningful engagement or attempt to resolve the issue.

For a bank of this size, this reflects serious issues in staff training, complaint handling, and basic customer care. Long-term customers should not be treated this way, particularly when reporting fraud.

I have now been forced to escalate this matter externally.

I can’t speak to a human being

I have a new phone number. I’ve been able to call every bank and speak to a human and update it so I can login with their two factor identification. Not St George! I’ve been on the phone all morning and the automated woman keeps hanging up on me telling me to login on the chat! I can’t login because I have new number! I’ve had to call the fraud hotline because I can’t reach a human being! I’m so disgusted! I will be paying my credit card and cancelling this card!

If I could give them a lower rating I…

If I could give them a lower rating I would.

Review:
I am currently overseas, locked out of my accounts, and St. George’s support is a complete shambles. I have no physical card or Customer Access Number on me, and the bank’s "security" process is a joke that defies basic logic.

When I called for help, I was asked for the date of my last login. When I told them I didn’t know because it had been a long time, the representative actually told me to “log in and check the top of the screen.” I am calling because I AM LOCKED OUT. How can your staff be this poorly trained?

Furthermore, I am expected to know the exact cent-perfect balance for one specific account out of the nine I hold with the bank—all from memory, while stressed, on an international call.

I spent a fortune on roaming charges just to receive a SMS PIN on my Australian SIM, only to be told after passing the PIN check that I "failed" an ID check anyway and to "call back in 24 hours." No explanation, no help, just a 24-hour lockout while I am stranded without access to my own money.

I’ve been passed from department to department, held for hours, and dealt with staff who have no idea why I was even transferred to them because no one bothers to leave notes.

If you are an international traveler, DO NOT bank with St. George. Their systems are not built for the real world, and their "support" is a loop of automated frustration.
