I got scammed too, the same as others. Had booked a locksmith via local company, and these people turned up. I was very clear on quote, ahead. Final bill NOT what was quoted...hugely higher, and I'm... Voir plus

They are crooks, not cowboys.
My wife and I found this company under 'Your local locksmith company' but the receipt was to BS Security maintenance Limited.
Our front door lock jammed and we were unable to get in our house. It was a double glazed from door.
We called this company as a second choice. A fitter arrived in a car a couple of hours after the call (on a Friday evening). He fitted an 'Ultion' lock replacing the Yale which had been originally supplied with the door. He said that Yale locks were not particularly good. He said that he was having difficulty and would come with a different part in the morning. He gave us a bill for £320.00 which made us gulp. We felt that we had to accept and paid though on hindsight, it was unusual, for every other tradesman (plumber, electrician etc) would have sent a bill by e-mail.
The morning came and the fitter returned, this time with another lock, an 'Astra' lock, this he said was better than the Ultion. He also said that it was more expensive than the Ultion but would not charge the extra. He also showed us the lock on his tablet, the website priced it at £280.00. He fitted the lock and left. We then noticed that he had fitted the lock with the fixing screws to the exterior. Feeling most uneasy (and foolish), we called our first choice of locksmith who came and immediately saw that the lock was incorrectly fitted. He quickly rectified the problem. He advised that the supplied lock, had he fitted it would have cost about £80.00 and that is was a reasonable lock to use. He declined any payment. If only he had answered his phone earlier last night.
Charging for work not required
I’ve just seen the billed charge for work done for a bedbound 91 year old gentlemen. It was for a lock change, call out fee and labour. All that was required was the handle tightening up with a Phillips screw driver. Time to me would have been 3 minutes. NO New lock required, NO new handle set. ALL should have been carried out within a call out fee. They charged him £732 incl Vat. You make your own mind up on this firm.
What a rip off
What a rip off! Paid £45 call out fee... just to break a barrel lock...this could have cost me upto £1000 !!! Crazy!!! Stay away from these rip offs!
Do not go anywhere near these people!!!
Do not go anywhere near these people!!!
As a property owner I was quoted £45 for a 6pm call out on a Tuesday to open a simple Yale lock for my tenants. My tenants are two young female paediatric nurses who he clearly saw as easy targets. He turned up and charged them £526 for 15 minutes work AFTER he'd broken the lock, even though they asked how much it'd cost first before doing this, he wouldn't tell them until he'd broken the lock.
I contacted him and here's his break down copied and pasted:
195 door opening
145 new lock
99 lb install
+ vat
I will be reporting them to Trading Standards and taking it up with the company tomorrow.
I wish I'd have looked into them properly first , or had been there to tell my tenants not to pay this amount, but he was there with his card machine and they felt pressured. The company came up high on Google search so a lesson learnt there.
I'm quite sure what they're doing is illegal.

My key snapped and left inside lock so it was unusable - phoned the number - he was round within the hour.
He drilled the lock out (allegedly costing £185!!!) and then for some reason added labour of £90 but surely the £185 would have included labour. Then for a replacement barrel charged £436!!! My colleague who does DIY himself said it should not have cost more than £50. I was stuck in an awkward situation and had nowhere to go so had to pay a total of £852 including VAT for 30 mins work. Feel completely conned - also, when I googled 'locksmiths in Chelmsford' it simply comes up with this guys mobile number, not the full company BS Security Maintenance Ltd. And when you look on Companies House and see Bogdan-Florin STOICA and that the net assets are only £700 you know it is a complete and under con!
Always try to get an estimate first
1st Oct 25, betwee8 and 9, lost my keys, no access to flat. Googled locksmith. arrived within half an hour, said wd. have to remove lock, replace with high security [equivalent] Spent 30 to 45 mins, charge £1056, yes 1056 !!!! Not in a position to argue as late and on my own. Full marks for speed and effiency none for fairness.

I just had this Lock Smith I needed a balcony door fixed he didnt replace the whole lock. He just drilled inside. Charge me 135+ VAT and I said to him I’m not painful price these people are con artist.

charged £225 plus vat to drill out a lock, then another £165 to adjust mechanism. Left us with a door we couldn't lock because they couldn't find a replacement lock. Tried to charge another £190 because they adjusted a hinge. Complete rip off. Do not use!!!!

They quoted £59 on the phone for a simple job, so I went with them. After opening the door with a slider, the locksmith tried to invoice me £213 (incl. VAT): £89 weekend call + £89 for opening. After I complained, they reduced it, but it was still £150, nearly 3x the price quoted. Very misleading — ask for a detailed quote first, before anybody does any work. Also call them to complain if necessary, I felt a bit shy but my partner pushed me into it which is why they reduced the price.

Was a complete take on I explained problem , mechanism broken on patio doors so couldn't open , quoted £45 for call out , said he needed to get part etc in Luton , came back and fitted it , not 100% as I have to be careful how I close it and for this I was charged £792 !!! What a complete take on .

Wish I had read these reviews before my experience with this company, they are not transparent with their pricing at all. Even is you ask the price, you need to ask for all costs. What I thought was going to be £180, ended up as a bill of £408. that was after a reduction due to my complaint!
Do NOT use.
Was charged £350+VAT for a new lock that costs £72 including VAT. Labour was extra and cost a further £125+VAT despite being quoted £85+VAT, so was overcharged on Labour too. Job took 2 minutes.

I am completely disgusted with these people. My inside door had two tiny screws come out of the keepers and the door would not stay closed.l phoned up this firm and was told the locksmith would be to by 5o’clock. Thought this was quite quick because I had not booked an emergency as it was an interior door.
He arrived at 4.45 told me that he had to realign the keeper, I know nothing about door mechanism so when he told me it would be £150 I thought it was going to be a big job so l agreed. He got two screws and and replaced them in the same holes as the ones had come out and said job done. I was shocked, got charged £180 with vat and because I said that’s ridiculous for two screws he told me that he done me a favour because he could have charged £48 call out.
He left at 4.55. I am 76 and disabled but that cuts no ice with these sharks. There should be laws to protect the people from predators.
DO NOT TOUCH THIS LOT!
DO NOT TOUCH THIS LOT!
Went round to the in-laws to replace a broken lock barrel (£10 from any DIY outlet) and "service" the door mechanism - a few sprays of some oil...
Charged £345!!!
What a complete rip-off...
Problem is they seem to be part of a national franchise so, just as for us (we used a locksmith), the business you find may not match the name BS Security.
Do not use these guys!!!!!!!
Had these guys attend our property to change the barrel in a lock. He spent a maximum of 10 minutes installing a new ( £7.00 ) piece with 3 keys. Was trying to upsell to a better lock and so pleased I declined. Charged me £213.60!!!!!
Feel so exploited. They should not be in business.... avoid these guys like the plague.
They quote a price and treble it!!!!!
DO NOT TOUCH THEM!!!!!!

BS Security Maintenance
Charge over £1000 for removing (drilling out) a Chubb lock for entry into a property and fitting of two new locks. One Chubb, one Yale.
Also refitting another lock bracket.
Would advise EVERYONE gets a written estimate of work prior to commencing.
Definitely would NOT use again!
Not professional, and expensive.
I called them to replace a lock which had been damaged during a failed break-in attempt.
They charged £150 +VAT for the lock which the retail costs is £7.98
and they added £45+VAT for the labour.
The total amounted to £234 to replace £7.98 lock.
If that wasn't enough, the locksmith didn't install the lock properly and the night-latch got stuck open after a few days.
When called, the locksmith (Simion) told me that he was on holidays and he couldn't fix the issue, but he would send someone else.
Then he started telling that the issue might be with the defective night-latch and if that needed to be replaced, they will need to charge me more.
Please note that the night-latch is brand new and it was installed just 10 months ago. Of course it could be defective, but is not likely that a new night latch breaks in less than 1year.
The next day we waited for the other locksmith to come and fix the lock, but he didn't show up.
So I fixit my self, but removing and re-installing the night-latch the correct way.
The night-latch has been working ever since.
