Avoid this...

Avoid this, no support team can be reached out to, after I paid for 30 pounds deposit and no power bank popped out. Feels like a scam. I was standing in front of the machine and feeling hopeless. They just told you to send email and got no reply from them.

Battery renting

Terrible service went to use the battery and it said on the machine £3 and. Then the machine re booted it self after it wouldn't take my debt card and then charged me £30. Trying to get in contact with customer service can't speak to any one all I can do is send e mails to try and get my money back. I would even give this service one star absolutely rubbish

The power bank said £3 to use but charged me £30 . i think thats basically theft . at no point did it mention £30. no way of contacting them to complain either.

Just a heads-up: We take a deposit to guarantee the correct charge at the end of your rental. To prevent fraud and theft, a £30 deposit is required at the time of rental for all orders.

You’ll see this information on the touch screen after clicking ‘Click here to rent’.

Once your order is finalised and you return the battery, the initial £30 deposit will disappear from your pending transactions. Instead, you’ll see the final charge for the rental amount. So, you won’t see any refund coming from ChargedUp. The transaction from us is finalised immediately at the end of the rental, but the banks sometimes take longer to adjust it.

I purchased a power pack

I purchased a power pack. Did not Charge my phone at all. Put the power pack back where i purchased it. To wake up to £29.90 took from my bank. To me seems like this is a scam! Bars / restaurants even having this brand is like they are supporting the scamming. I want refunding. Good job I was on Diet Coke all night and knew what I had bought or not bought. Be aware people as clearly they just take money from banks.

Purchased one of these, two days later my card has been charged £30… the charger never charged my phone and was returned to the docking station. Absolute waste of time and disgusting that I’ve been charged this amount.

Purchased one of these picked 1 hour…

Purchased one of these picked 1 hour for £2 the power bank did not work at all and they took £6 out of my bank I didn’t realise this untill I bought a second one as I needed battery picked 1 hour for £2 again and it took £6 twice out of my bank so it cost me £12 to charge my phone for an hour.

Terrible, charge banks don’t charge

Terrible, tried two different chargers both only worked for about 30seconds and then stopped charging. The second one i tried to charge the bank via my laptop to see if that was the problem. But still even once the bank was charging didn’t charge my phone. When I unplugged it from laptop it then charged my phone again but for all of thirty seconds.

So charged £6 for 3% of battery charge what a waste of money. I will be complaining

Dismal customer service

After my return malfunctioned and the rental failed to end, I reached out to customer service. They asked for all the details of the rental and the return so that they could "investigate." I gave them the date, time, location of the station I returned to, etc. and the charger locked into the station so I couldn't get it back. The next response was them attempting to charge my card for the full cost of the charger. When I asked them to reverse it, they claimed they were still investigating and gave no timeline for a reply. Nearly a month later, I still hadn't heard anything back from ChargedUp so I finally disputed the charges with my card issuer. I can understand technical glitches, but to waste so much of my time trying overcharge me for something I returned is just ridiculous. ChargedUp, please fix your customer service!

Recently used a charged up station in a pub in Brighton. Used Apple Pay- I was charged the £19 deposit and the charger never popped up… you cannot get a refund on the deposit without replacing the charger. Haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone to resolve the issue. Absolutely ridiculous.

Absolute rip off

Absolute rip off. Do not use at Portsmouth Historical Dockyards. It indicates that the cost will be £2, expect to be charged £6 with minimal phone charge (20%) in less than 2 hours. Poor communication with company. Steer clear of this company.

I put my phone on charge for 5 minutes, which was supposed to be free, instead I have not recieved my deposit of 19.80 back. Also, I have been a charged an additional 5.99 and can’t get in touch with anyone to arrange a refund.

Flawed business model

*Amended 10-May-2024 - ChargedUp have reached out and refunded me so I have upped the rating - I do think a number of my points still stand though - I would be very careful to make sure you’re able to return the device to save inconvenience

Flawed business model - if the slots on the device (be it a pub or whatever) you took the charger from suddenly become full then you’re stuck with it - I had to walk a mile’s inconvenience, and being billed the whole time, to return to another site, which the app said was online and had one slot available, but even then when I returned it the screen was blank and I’ve had no acknowledgment.

I’m sure it’s useful in some circumstances but I would suggest you be very, very careful about this supposedly smart way of charging your phone.

Used charged up to charge my phone in a pub,initial experience was good,fully charged the phone for £2 but then they’ve got you details and have tried over the last couple of weeks to extract a further £9 a time(4 times) in total but I’ve blocked payment so am lucky.Be aware of this scam.

Excellent as a London tourist

I was on a day trip to London with my daughter and my portable charger broke so my phone battery nearly died. I found out about chargedup and it was excellent. There’s so many places to hire from and you can return to a different place which is perfect for a day out and not wanting to go back to the same spot in London. Luckily I was pretty much walking past places to hire and drop it back to (I used to app to find them) so I really didn’t have to go out of my way. I would have been so stuck without it as we needed to use google maps! I hired it for about 2 and a half hours and it cost me £9.

A scam!
I rented a power bank from charged up in Bramhall on Friday night and the deposit that I would apparently get back is still pending in my bank 2 days later.
From reading other reviews it appears that some people did get their deposit back after 10 days but this was not specified when I used it and I need that money this week.
