Good quality bulbs that will reward you year after year

I have now been a customer of bloms and bulbs for a few years and I have to say, their lilly bulbs have not disappointed and I have been delighted with their quality. I have brought African Lillie's and trumpet lillies which I overwintered and which came back even more glorious the following year. I also brought the kings blood tulips a few years ago which were much commented on at our garden party. I was late to buy my hyacinths but one has already bloomed so overall a great experience with bloms and bulbs and I will continue to be a loyal customer.

I am very disappointed

I am very disappointed, l ordered Finolva tulip bulbs after seeing them a Glenarm tulip festival but they had a supply problem and sent instead dark purple tulips and l didn’t realise this till they started to bloom. I rang the company and was informed about the supply problem and they have offered new bulbs in Autumn free of charge but that doesn’t take away from my disappointment in the display this year as l would never picked purple in a month of Sunday’s as l find them very depressing. If l had never rang myself they would never have informed me.

Thank you for your review, and I am very sorry for the disappointment caused.

It does appear that we may have been mis-supplied on Finola. The stock we are growing ourselves has not yet come into flower, so we were not aware of any issue at the time of dispatch. We have only very recently had a small number of reports such as yours.

I completely understand your frustration. Finola is very distinctive, and receiving a dark purple variety instead is not what you ordered.

As discussed, I am very happy to offer a replacement in the autumn, and you are welcome to choose an alternative variety if you would prefer. If you would rather not wait, I can of course arrange a refund instead.

Worst bulb supplier

Buyer Beware

This supplier showcases their tulips each year at the Tulip Festival at Glenarm Castle, and the displays are undeniably beautiful. Seeing the mature blooms in full glory makes it very tempting to place an order on the spot.

However, my experience did not match the marketing.

When the bulbs arrived in October, I was genuinely disappointed. They were significantly smaller than expected and several showed signs of blue mould. Considering the premium prices charged, I expected far higher quality.

One of the issues with ordering via festival forms is that you lose perspective of current market prices. Only later do you receive a bill. In many instances quality is shocking — bulbs are available from other suppliers at far more reasonable rates.

Afterwards, I compared bulbs locally at Walkers Seeds in Newtownards and with friends who ordered online from Dutch Grown and Farmer Gracy. The difference in bulb size and overall quality was striking, even comparing same cultivars. I got the impression I received old dried and mould covered bulbs.

I share this simply so others go in with eyes open. The display gardens are impressive, but in my experience the delivered product did not justify the price.

Sorry to read that you were disappointed with your bulbs. If you had been in touch at the time, we would have replaced them straight away. That is how we deal with any genuine issue.

The bulbs planted at Glenarm Castle and those sent to our customers are picked from the same stocks. There is no separate selection for our flower shows and gardens.

Tulips can sometimes show a little blue mould on the outer skin after storage. It is superficial and does not affect how they grow, but any concerns should be raised on arrival so they can be sorted.

Wonderful Service

I ordered bulbs a couple of weeks ago which were a gift. I rang and asked if they could be dispatched in time for the birthday. I spoke to a really helpful and pleasant gentleman who went out of his way to locate the order and said he would endeavour to get the bulbs to me ASAP. Amazingly, the bulbs arrived the following day. Wonderful service.

Good catalogue, wide range, excellent quality

I have been a customer for over 30 years and there are many reasons why I order from Bloms. First: their catalogue with its very wide selection, for example this year they offer 211 different tulips all arranged in the standard categories and with pictures and helpful descriptions. Further information comes these days on Chris Blom's useful and entertaining e-mails, which (unlike messages from many companies) are not just advertising material. Second: the quality. These bulbs will flower magnificently and continue for many years: I have tulips and some crocuses that I know to be over 30 years old and still going strong. Highly recommended.

Good Quality and Service

I have used Bloms Bulbs for the past five years or so for Dahlias, Lillies, Narcissi and Tulips. The tubers and bulbs received have all been of good quality and thrived in my garden. They are not the cheapest supplier, but mostly in my experience you do get what you pay for.
The catalogues sent by post are excellent in themselves and tempt me to buy in a way that websites cannot.
I also enjoy Mr. Blom’s sparingly sent emails for their personal tone and good advice.

Cost against performance

Although more expensive the bulbs always flower well with very few blind bulbs. Tulips and daffodils are grown in pots for first year then transferred to garden borders and some still flower after 7 years in situ. So in the long run worth the extra initial cost.

I have been using Bloms Bulbs for several years now and keep coming back. The quality of the bulbs they provide is outstanding, reliable and robust which continue to shine in my garden where similar bulbs from other providers have fallen short. However, this is only one reason I keep returning to Bloms. It's their customer service, their genuine care, and really useful emails at timely points in the year (like lifting tulips - I never knew this!) that make them stand out for me. The products are delivered with care and my young daughter loves looking through their lovely catalogues. We got extra dahlias this year as a result! 100% cannot fault them

Thank you Bloms for a lifetime of gardening pleasure

The newsletter is a great joy. Full of interesting and useful information and with a deep love of the plants and the whole gardening experience. It cheers me up everytime I see the Bloms email arrive in my inbox.
The bulb catalogue is a real work of art, showing that these bulbs are not just commodities, they are treasures for sale.
My mother grew Bloms bulbs and as a small child I was taught to buy the very best plants I could afford if I wanted my gardening dreams to be realised. Over the decades I have proved to myself again and again that Bloms Bulbs are unarguably the best. Other companies are cheaper, other catalogues contain even more varieties, but the plants from Bloms are the most reliable, the strongest and the most enduring in our often tricky climate. This past spring was by turns bitterly cold and windy, and then hot, dry and sunny. My garden shone with colour throughout it all.
I am now happily embarked on tulip planting plans for Spring 2026

Quality bulbs

I’ve been buying blom bulbs for the last five years and although more expensive than many I now choose to buy less bulbs but much better quality . My pot spring displays always perform well and I’ve the photos to prove it .

Chelsea flower show 2015

We first saw Bloms Bulbs stand at Chelsea flower show several years ago and have been buying their winter and summer bulbs ever since.
I am a great fan of tulips, those and agapanthus are my favourite flowers and Bloms have so many to choose from. Their bulbs are always successful and beautiful.

Great bulbs

Blom's is very reliable - delivers what it promises. It is not the cheapest but is the best. I have the species tulip mixture, which brightens up the front and has bedded in. Pashley Manor display is a must go to!

Excellent quality bulbs…

The bulbs provided are of excellent quality and the staff, if you need to phone them, are very helpful. The catalogue provides me with clear pictures and information and I love browsing it and deciding which bulbs to choose. I have ordered my bulbs from Bloms for years now and am never disappointed.
