5 star service

I have been coming to this opticians for over 2 years now. They have always been helpful and patient with me, even when I have been difficult. They Always outlining my options and try to help me with any situation I have.

They have the best options for glasses I have seen in Cambridge

Everytime I enter I am greeted with a pleasant warm smile.

The customer service from the top down has always been of the 5 star service. This is demonstrated by Chris the manager and followed on by his colleagues especially Taz and Lauren who seem to have to deal with my problems and queries often.

I would say that they are the best in Cambridge and worth visiting yourself.

Appalling Service

I shall try and keep this brief. I bought a pair of Chanel glasses frames over 2 years ago (at the time of my complaint, I'd had my glasses for 21 months). They gave way at the bridge when I was putting them in the glasses case (something that has never happened with any other pair of glasses I’ve ever bought) so I went into the DC branch I'd bought them from to get help at John Lewis, Cheadle. At that time and since then it's been a catalogue of disgraceful customer service; from being disbelieved and virtually accused of lying, to repeated attempts to try and get some kind of help with my issue, being directed to the wrong place for help, incorrect websites, being told by the manufacturers of Chanel frames (Luxotica) they couldn't help (which I expected), to logging a formal complaint against David Clulow and the branch manager and requesting a response within 2 weeks what seems like months ago, to being told a month after logging it they'd now passed it to the correct team, to asking for a copy of the complaints procedure and the correct email address to contact, to being told the team would be in contact with me, which they haven't - weeks have gone by. I have no idea what to do or who to go to. So, I have had no choice but to come to TrustPilot, next stop to go back to the Optical Consumer Complaints Service (who I've already been to and they provided me with advice on how to proceed, which I did and nothing has happened) and social media. Absolutely disgraceful customer service. I will never go to David Clulow again. And I will certainly never be purchasing Chanel frames again. Maybe someone from the company can respond to this review?

Brilliant service

Brilliant service. I had to go back a few times because my new glasses were uncomfortable, but Aisha in the Battersea branch (apologies if I’ve misspelled your name) was patient, professional, and sorted the issue by changing the nose pads. They’re now really comfortable.

Great selection of glasses. They’re on the expensive side, but worth it for something that’s built to last, and the free replacement if they break is a nice bonus. Recommended.

Lost all faith with this company

I had an eye test as part of the Style plan and agreed a free reglaze.

The first set of lenses that came in were wrong and I couldn't see well enough to leave the store, so an additional eye test was booked for a week or so later. At that eye test the prescription was changed again and new lenses ordered.

The second set felt better but after a few hours of having tunnel vision, feelign sick and other opotical issues i returned. A thiurd eye test was carried out on that same day and the vision in my left eye (wearing the new lenses) was worse with them than without - whch was causign the issues.

The optiican set a new prescription and also remeasuered and chaged the focal point for the varifocla (which was soemthing I had queried from the first eye test).

I delcined the new prescription lenses as I cant afford to take another day out to go all the way especially as by now I had no confidence in David Clulow Nottingham.

At least I've still got my old lenses that work better than any of the updated lenses they tried to fit.

All of the staff there seemed to try and say that everything must have been my fault - they were adamant they hadn't made any mistakes, and didn't seem to want to believe there was anything wrong.

At the John Lewis store in Welwyn…

At the John Lewis store in Welwyn Garden City the in-store experience was very good with a range of glasses that suited me and clear explanation of all the options. When I went back to order they warned me just how long I may need to wait (thankfully they arrived earlier!). I was served both times by Caterina, whose knowledge and manner were first-class.

I have ordered prescription sunglasses…

I have ordered prescription sunglasses online twice, on the 28th of April and the 22nd of May, both times my order was accepted, however both times it has been cancelled by David Clulow despite both showing progressing after the orders were made, I was advised initially it was a technical issue on the first order, although what this issue was I was never told, I was then told to reapply and was given a discount code as a way of a apology by the lady who dealt with my initial query, I then placed my order again as advised, only to have the same issue happen again with the latest order, have attempted to contact them to find out what is happening but I have received no response to my emails and neither have I received a refund to my account for the cancelled order, their customer service is non existent

Following contact from David Clulow and the response they gave, I am surprised but grateful for their offer, it shows that the companies do still care about their customers and the service they offer, have amended my response to show this

Poor customer service

I visited a branch to enquire about frames and specialist lenses for an existing eye condition. Unfortunately, I found the experience disappointing.

The staff were standoffish, and I did not feel particularly valued as a potential customer. When I asked about lens pricing and options in relation to my condition, a member of staff chuckled and remarked, "I haven't heard that one before." I found this dismissive and felt that my questions were not taken seriously.

I was then given a leaflet about finance options to take away. Whilst this may have been intended as helpful, I had not expressed any interest in financing my purchase and was simply seeking information about lens options and pricing.

The overall interaction left me feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and reluctant to continue my enquiry. As a result, I have chosen to purchase my glasses from another retailer, which is a shame as they offer a broad selection of frames. Unfortunately, the customer service did not reflect the quality of the products on offer.

Disgusting after-sales - no response from 3 emails

Well I wasn’t sure whether to update this review or start a new one. Anyway since 27 May there has been progress…
It took a further 2 days before a response was received. And actually only yesterday (11-06-26) before a response was received to my 1-star review. Do I still say after sales service needs work !! However please read this in conjunction with my new review

After writing a glowing review for the in store ‘SALES’ experience I have to post a follow up. It is now TWO WEEKS since the glasses were ordered via the Style Service and nothing has been received.

Three emails, a Facebook messenger message and a Facebook post later - all on the same day and not one person has responded to let me know where my two pairs of glasses are!!

Don’t expect a response

I made a very detailed complaint about my visit on 18 May 2026 to David Clulow in John Lewis store in Oxford Street which was published on the Trust Pilot site. I have yet to have a response on the site but notice those who speak in glowing terms of service received and stars awarded to the company have the courtesy of a reply. This should apply to all complaints whether or not they are in the company’s favour and I am disappointed to say the least.

Excellent service and experience at David Clulow Covent Garden, London

I visited David Clulow in Covent Garden London on 25/05/26. I was only passing but the range and styles of glasses on display was excellent.
Mason (optical advisor) was very friendly, approachable and helped me choose a frame that really suited me whilst also offering alternatives. This then led to a conversation about eye tests and your purchasing scheme. As a result, a test was booked within the hour. Again, Gary, the optician I saw there, was thorough and committed to ensure my prescription was accurate.
I then met with Mason again to complete my order.
From the outset I felt valued as a customer and was very impressed with high quality service I received.
Also my partner (who is already a customer with David Clulow) needed his glasses checking which was done.
An excellent experience and I have no hesitation in recommending this branch-even though I live 80 miles away!

My appointment was with David Clulow in John Lewis Oxford Street - Do your shopping at John Lewis but avoid the opticians.

My appointment was with David Clulow in the John Lewis Store in Oxford Street on Monday 18th May 2026 at 12.15 for eye test and contact lens check up. I found the experience very tense and frustrating when I told the optometrist I had a hearing impairment which she did not seem to take this into consideration when explaining certain points. She recommended cataract surgery which I am happy to have but first and foremost I am waiting for a hip operation . Nevertheless she said she would send a letter by email for me to present to my doctor. At the end of the consultation she declined to release the prescriptions to me until I had the cataract operation as the prescription would change and she would "be happy to revisit" this appointment and then issue prescriptions. I am not happy with this explanation and find it is an unprofessional attitude to take. There is a long waiting list in NHS for cataract operations which could be anywhere between six and twelve months. I am legally entitled to both prescriptions after the consultation, irrespective of whether or not I purchased glasses or contact lens, and I should not have to be battling for these prescriptions. Very disappointed and I will be taking the matter further . Reception staff are not very welcoming apart from the final lady who was very pleasant and wrapped up my purchases of eyelid wipes and eye drops. I have never come across an optician who refused to release specifications before and it left me feeling unhappy and deflated. I have not had any response to my complaint which I feel has just been ignored.
