1 star
1 star - Shocking lack of first aid care for a stung child. And
We visited Longleat as a family of four, including my 3-year-old son. A few hours in, while eating lunch at the picnic tables, we were swarmed by wasps and my son was stung under his eye for the first time in his life. The area swelled shut within seconds and he was in a lot of pain.
We couldn't find a single member of staff nearby to help. A kind stranger had to run off and find someone for us. It took nearly 15 minutes for a first aider to arrive.
When she finally did, she was completely unequipped to help: just an oversized ice pack, no antihistamine, and no attempt to check whether the nearby shop had anything like Piriton available. Instead she pointed out the spreading redness, mentioned the nearest hospital, and offered no reassurance whatsoever, which only made us panic more. As I tried to get my son out of the park to find help, she then tried to get me to fill in a lengthy incident form instead of letting us leave.
Our day was completely ruined, and my son is now genuinely scared of the place. When we raised this with Longleat afterwards, they refused any refund and only offered a free return visit within the next month or so, despite us living three hours away and having no intention of ever going back. It feels like they've completely missed the point: this was about a serious failure in their first aid response to a young child in pain, not something a discount can fix.
Hugely disappointing for a place that markets itself as family friendly. I'd think twice before trusting them to look after your child if something goes wrong.
What a way to create memories
I bought my wife for her birthday and she absolutely loved it. The safari was amazing getting to see so many wonderful animals close up. And then the Jungle cruise was a bit of a weight but definitely worth it seeing the hippos, sealions and gorillas.
The ticket price for me was worth every penny the little experiences you could do on the side for £2 like feed the giraffes or sealions was well worth the price compared to other zoos I believe it's very good value.
The restaurant food was pricey however the quality of the food and ingredients they used were exceptional Probably the best food I've had from a zoo/leisure park.
Pointless QR code
I pre booked the Safari bus weeks in advance for myself and my 2 daughters. We got to Longleat extra early so we could be at the front of the que to get some good seats. When the driver opened the doors and asked for tickets as we was getting on, I showed him the QR code sent to me when I booked. He told me the QR was no good as he didn't have a scanner, he then asked me if I had the paper receipt I was given on entry, I said no it was in my car. He asked me if I could go back to my car and get it. I was very unhappy as this would mean the bus would be practically full by the time I got back, and there's no guarantee I'd be able to sit with my 8 and 11 year old daughters, he said well I can't let you on without it. This was supposed to be the high light of our day, so you can imagine how much it was ruined. Why send out QR codes if you can't use them? Very disappointed by the driver who could see the date and time on the QR code but said that was not proof. What a jobsworth.
**Extremely disappointing visit
**Extremely disappointing visit – not the experience advertised**
We visited Longleat on Saturday 15th August 2026 after travelling approximately 4 hours for what we expected to be a memorable family day out. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing and fell far below what we expected from such a well-known attraction.
The safari experience was the biggest disappointment. The majority of the animals advertised as part of the safari could not be seen, and many appeared to be restricted or unavailable rather than roaming freely as expected. The safari itself was heavily congested, with bumper-to-bumper traffic throughout. Seeing animals surrounded by constant queues of vehicles, with exhaust fumes and noise around them, did not feel like a positive or enjoyable environment for either the animals or visitors.
The organisation of the safari was also very poor. Signage and directions were unclear, resulting in us missing a large part of the experience. For a first-time visitor, the route and instructions were not easy to follow, and there was not enough guidance available.
The Longleat app, which should have helped improve the visitor experience, did not work properly, leaving us without the support and information we expected.
Staff interactions were also disappointing. We found staff to be unhelpful and, in some cases, rude when assistance was needed. This added to the feeling that visitors were not being looked after.
The facilities were also below an acceptable standard, with dirty toilets and an overall lack of cleanliness that did not reflect the price paid for entry.
What makes this visit even more disappointing is that I visited Longleat as a child and have fond memories of the experience. I wanted to bring my own little girl to create those same special memories, but unfortunately the reality was completely different. After travelling such a long distance and spending the money expected for a family day out, we left feeling extremely let down.
Based on our experience, we would not return again and cannot recommend Longleat in its current state. Given the poor safari experience, lack of advertised animal viewing, poor organisation, and overall disappointment, we are requesting a refund.
Unfair extra charges after you buy an annual pass.
I have had an annual pass for years and enjoyed the special events included, but now they are enforcing extra charges on these events.
profiteering or racketeering, just very unfair.
Yet again they sneak in terms and conditions changes.
Longleat no longer accept dwp,pip,gp…
Longleat are absolutely a profit first company as they longer accept dwp, pip,gp letters or blue badge as proof of being disabled and needing a carer. You now have to give over private medical information to a private company called nimbus. I and my family with two disabled children won't be going now as if I was willing to give private medical information to this company (im not ) it could take a week or two to get it . If we wish to visit any venue that uses nimbus we won't be going ther either as I think trained medical professionals are a better judge of people's capabilities than someone untrained. Once again people with disabilities and their families have to fight companies that want people to just pay.
Not worth the money
Not worth the money, overpriced, overcrowded and understaffed.
Another attraction that has gone down the route of profit over experience.
We experience awful overcrowding and spent our entire afternoon queuing for the railway train and jungle cruise. Both of which were in a sorry state and in need of investment. Won’t visit again.
Where do we start
Where do we start.
I sent a general enquiry e-mail 27th July 2026 asking about a potential booking I wanted to make for 6th August 2026 but still NO reply. (so decided not to attend Longleat)
Called up, spoke to a staff member about the Bronze VIP Safari day. I was SHOCKED with the reply.
Currently my wife is using a wheelchair & a stick for short walks & I was told we don't advertise these experiences as "Disabled Friendly"
I asked about getting in & out of the vehicles, & was told we can try to ensure we have some extra steps & maybe more staff to assist in the loading, we wouldn't be able to take the wheelchair on the safari.
So when all stop at the mid break my wife would have to stay in the vehicle & look out at the scenery. (word for word)
Whilst others got out for refreshments & walked around.
It would have meant that she would have needed to stay seated for some 2 hours minimum, where she does need to keep mobile as much as she can.
I feel that anyone with a disability is being discriminated against by not having access to all the options open to others.
I would never visit Longleat Safari…
I would never visit Longleat Safari park or any other wildlife "park" it is not a safari it is a place that someone thought they could cash in on exploting wild animals. These Animals may look like they are physically cared for but mentally they are not, no scientist or anyone else can tell you any different they belong where they originally came from in the wild instead of been gawped at for money. These places need to be closed down for the peace and well-being of future wildlife!! Don't buy it!! Cruel & Unnecessary!!
And those who think they are kept because they are endangered is nonsense. Longleat Quote:
"an important conservation and educational initiative at the Longleat Safari Park to highlight one of Africa's most endangered carnivores". Utter bull it's for the money if they cared about these Animal's they would support them in thier own habitat and not cash in on the vulnerable.
Lovely (grown-up) family day out
I haven't been to Longleat in almost 50 years. I really enjoyed it. Every staff member I met was incredibly kind and helpful, particularly with my dad, who is elderly and a tires easily. The safari was brilliant (although the audio guide on the app was a bit patchy due to internet issues), the house was beautiful, and the grounds were worth the price of entry on their own - amazing mature trees, meadows, and plants. Parking was free, as was the coffee in the VIP area. We visited on a school day, and arrived early, which may be why there were no queues, and no uncomfortable crowds. I plan to go back 2-3 times a year from now on.
A shame
Don't even think about going! It's a disgrace that brings tears to the eyes of both children and parents.
We traveled all the way from the Indian Ocean to visit the world's largest hedge maze. We bought our tickets months ago. We arrived today, and it was closed for four days during the park's opening hours for maintenance! It's like paying for a ski pass only to find the main slopes are groomed but inaccessible!
At the reception desk, they were inflexible; even during the gardeners' break, they wouldn't let us in for the next two days! A refund wasn't possible either. "You should have looked at our website, ma'am." Okay, so the website... be warned, you have to click on the attraction, scroll to the bottom of the page, and then find a tiny sentence with the information. Furthermore, this information wasn't available when we bought the tickets. And that's where they rip you off, because of course, you have to buy the tickets in advance. So, we're dealing with a park that rips off its customers and shows absolutely no empathy for a crying child who lost her birthday present forever. We spent so much money to come here that, unfortunately, we won't risk being trapped in this park without its star attraction open again.
I therefore recommend you don't come if you want to do the maze. It's a lack of professionalism and a complete disregard for its young customers who have come from far away. They only want English tourists.
The proper business practice, dear owner, would have been to offer us the maze during the gardeners' break, and safety is no excuse; they simply need to remove the three hedge trimmers needed (there are only three gardeners!).
What a disgrace
What a disgrace and a total lack of professionalism.
We booked three months in advance and traveled from the other side of the world specifically to make our daughter's dream come true: visiting the world's largest hedge maze.
We arrived only to find out it was closed for hedge trimming.
Bear in mind that the park is only open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; how is it possible that maintenance isn't scheduled outside of opening hours—especially in July?
Why weren't we notified about the closure beforehand?
It's a disgrace.
We are absolutely gutted.
Amazing Safari Experience
I went to Longleat in May 2026 and I had an amazing time, I had a VIP experience and our guide was totally awesome (Callum) he was so knowledgeable and witty I learned a lot about the beautiful animals at Longleat, customer service was amazing, hardly had to queue for anything and the sun was shining!
I feel that you get more from the safari experience if you have a guide as opposed to driving round by yourself, I mean it's fun but the guides know more about Longleat than we do !
I had such a great time I am already booking my next visit.
My daughter booked me a lion experience…
My daughter booked me a lion experience last Friday. It was fantastic. Our guide & keeper Amy was so friendly and knowledgeable. Answered all our questions. It was nice to see the lions up close. We then went through the safari seeing loads of animals. We didn't do the monkeys after seeing the notices about damage to cars. Then we had a lovely afternoon just walking around enjoying all the attractions. Train ride, boat ride, bat cave etc. Didn't really have to queue anywhere. It was a lovely day and I hope to return someday.
horrible, unkind staff
we went on the VIP show-around on new years eve and at first everything was going fabulous, but around halfway through our tour our tour guide started being OPENLY transphobic and homophobic. this is EXTREMELY unprofessional and very harmful- baring in mind it was my sisters BIRTHDAY, just flat out ruined the whole experience.
GET BETTER STAFF!!! I'm surprised this place is still running with 51% 1 star.
appalling.
Don’t go later in the afternoon…
We planned a trip to go on the safari drive later in the afternoon. We got there at 3:40pm and the lady at the entrance was nothing but rude. Told us why bother coming if there is only an hour left looking at us in disgust, after about a 3 minute discussion and us saying we are more than happy to just do the safari drive (as that was all we were planning to do) she took our payment. I understand if we turned up right before closing but we didn’t. The first interaction ruined the whole experience, will not be coming back here!
We go every year to the festival of…
We go every year to the festival of lights. This was the busiest year. There were just way too many people and the experience was not enjoyable at all. The entire experience was spent in a queue and you couldn’t do or even see everything due to the sheer amount of people. We won’t be returning next year.
Disappointing. Not worth the money anymore.
We’ve been doing the Festival of Lights for over ten years running. It’s getting more and more commercial by the year… expensive for what it is, so crowded that it’s just queues everywhere! We were so packed in walking through trying to see the lights that you could barely see them squeezing through the throngs. 30 minutes queuing for churros; 30 minutes queuing for Rocking Rhino ride. Bins totally overflowing. Lots of main attractions close so early (the boat; the adventure playground) that if you’ve bought the day ticket there’s little to do in the afternoon.
Absolutely awful service
Absolutely awful service. After a family tragedy, I called to rearrange my tickets for the firework event and was shown no sympathy or compassion. I was told I would have to pay further money and they were so unbelievably unhelpful. Awful service, communication and absolute lack of any emotion whatsoever so ever - all they care about is the money. Awful.
